quadzilla? Koenen the Barbarian ? although longer legs would help

.......... although short legs didn't stop this very honest 10.10 (+0.4) from Trae Williams. How I wish he was still sprinting for us - a great relay first leg

Jenna Prandini made the semi finals of the womens 100 meters at the US Olympic Trials. Sad to see both Cunliffe and Sant not make it out of the first round. They both faded fast after looking good early in their heats.

I doubt that Prandini can make the finals but it would be cool if she did. The only bad thing is it hurts her chances at her best event of the 200 meters if she is not properly conditioned. Hopefully she is ready either way.

Shae Anderson moves to the next round with a 51.32. Well done!

Another qualifier in the women's 400m is Brittany Aveni of Duke.
She made the finals of the NCAA 400m championships, and now she has moved on to the semi-finals of the Olympic Trials.
What's also interesting about her, is that she was basically an 800m and cross-country runner her first 2 years in college.
Then her junior year, she started running some 400m races, and then this senior season, started running the shorter sprints.
Basically, she was 'type caste' as a middle distance runner, but it turns out she should have been a sprinter all along.
Her best times are 11.35 (100m), 22.96 (200m), and 51.60 (400m).
She only ran the 100m and 200m this season. Who knows how much faster she might have run, if she had focused on these events sooner.
Meanwhile, her best 800m time, which she ran throughout her college career, was only 2:06.49!

This my friends is the caste system at work.
Her sprinting talents were unused and wasted (not just for herself, but the school, because there are more points to be scored with a sprinter than a middle distance runner) because of racial profiling.
This scenario reminds me a little of Laura Roesler, who was a very talented HS sprinter and middle distance runner, but was pushed into the middle distances at college.
And remember, Matthew Boling only started running the 100m and 200m his senior year at high school.
This 'type casting' goes on all the time.

Cunliffe ran faster than prandini and another girl but because it is top 3 then next 4 fastest times advance, she loses out by .02 of a second. Sant choked badly

Fingers crossed for Tortu, but not holding much hope based on last week's performance.
Maybe hes still coming back from tweaking something at the World Relays.

Tortu came 2nd in 10.27 (-1.3w).
That's an okay time, but given this is an Olympic year and his past performances, it's rather disappointing.
I guess he hasn't recovered from whatever problem he incurred during the World Relays.
In any case, this is not going to be his season. Maybe next year.
Unfortunately, it seems all the European sprinters have let us down this year.

That's about the time he was running in 19' leading up to the world championship and he was a finalist there. If you reverse the wind and his time would have been about 10.1X, but if you want progression that's not where he should be with the Olympics track and field schedule starting in about 6 weeks.

PS I found a pirate feed on Youtube of the day 1 coverage of the US trials, watch now before NBC pulls the feed...

Yes it's been a frustrating year for our guys from all around the world. Even Quinn & Boling in the U.S. started off great and then faded. Maybe those guys will shock us this weekend but I'm not getting my hopes up. I would
like to see Boling finally break his 10.11 p.b. from two years ago but even that is unlikely with his current form. Maybe both Boling & Quinn will shock us and return to form. Hope for the best but expecting average times at the
US Trials.

Tortu's time was similar to his 10.18 wind legal around 3 weeks ago. What really cost him a better time other than the negative wind was his reaction time. He had a 0.216! Talk about falling asleep on the blocks. That is so not like
him. So he would have probably been around a 10.10 - 10.15 with a better start and not running into such a big wind. Oh well. It's been that kind of year for our guys.

The Men's 100m heats are this after at the Olympic Trials.
Quinn and Beck are heat #1. Quinn has a good land #5, while Beck is in lane 3.

Boling is in heat #3 and has the worst lane - lane #1.

Patrick Laird and many of the other top collegians are not running.

Quinn and Beck bombed out.
Boling at least ran a 10.13 with max legal wind (2.0).
He moves on to the semi-finals as one of the fastest losers.

Boling should make the semi finals with that time. The problem is just like at the SEC Champs & NCAA Nat'l Champs he keeps getting stuck in crappy lanes and this
will happen again if he makes the semi finals which I think he will. Other than the wind he did better than I thought he would for running in lane 1.

On a side note I'm so sick of seeing Mr. PED Man Justin Gatlin. He keeps running sub 10's with gray hairs. Nothing to see here folks. It's normal to run faster in middle age!

Making the Semifinals of the US Olympic trials in year two of 100m development is great for Matt.
Payton Chadwick with 12.66 in the 100h is fantastic with third place in sight. Nice looking girl too. She takes over from Australia Liz Clay for the fastest woman in the sprint hurdles.

Jenna Prandini running a slightly windy sub 11 time of 10.96 to make the US Womens 100 Meter Finals.

Must be all that pasta. Damn can this girl run and her best event is the 200 meters!

I was thinking that when her sprint career is winding down, she could switch back to the Long Jump.

Yes Payton Chadwick will make a great wife and mother someday. Wish I could be the lucky guy. So beautiful and very talented.

I miss the days of the great Sally Pearson of Australia. She was incredible in the hurdles. Glad that she is now a mother and what a career. I really enjoyed watching her run! Quite the sprinter too!
