Men’s 1500 metres: Jacob Ingebrigtsen wins his third European 1500m title

Jakob Ingebrigtsen crossed the finish-line first in the final of the 1500m at the European Indoor Championships in Torun in 3:37.56, but he was later disqualified for a lane violation. Marcin Lewandowski from Poland was promoted to gold medal position.

However, several hours later Jakob was reinstated and crowned the European 1500m indoor champion for the 3rd time in a row.

The Polish middle-distance star, Lewandowski, who had triumphed in the 800m in Prague 2015 and in the 1500m in Belgrade 2017 and Glasgow 2019, took the silver with 3:38.06. Spaniard Jesus Gomez from Spain won the bronze medal in 3:38.47 ahead of his compatriot Ignacio Fontes (3’39”66).

Jacob Ingebrigsten will attempt to become the first male runner in European indoor history to complete a 1500/3000m double.

Men’s long jump: Second European Indoor gold for Tentoglou

Miltiadis Tentoglou continued his streak of European medals winning his second consecutive gold medal at this event with 8.35m in the first round in his only valid jump. European silver medallist Thobias Montler from Sweden came very close to Tentoglou by setting his national record with 8.31m in the third round claiming his second consecutive European Indoor silver medal.

Montler produced three more jumps over the 8 metres barrier (8.04m, 8.19m and 8.00m). Kristian Pulli from Finland won the bronze medal setting the national indoor record with 8.24m.

Once again a German sprinter shows his lack of real belief , he was obviously very nervous before getting into the blocks ...... ...in the 60 .....Murray a very creditable 6.47 WL ...but I think his improvements are drug enhanced .........but Jan Volko showed the competitor he is by taking bronze after a pretty crappy indoor season ...

Well they just ran the Mens 60 Meters Final. I must say I'm very disappointed in many of our guys. Jacobs of Italy won it but we all know he is not of italian descent. Kevin Kranz of Germany took
the silver medal and Jan Volko took the bronze. They both looked flat after looking really good in the previous two rounds. Even Andrew Robertson was flat. I wish Van Gool wasn't disqualified in
the earlier rounds as he had the 3rd fastest time in Europe coming into the champs. The D.Q. was joke as many and he should have been allowed to still compete.

On the bright side we did see some new faces. I wish Tortu would have been there but it is what it is. Honestly I think Kranz let the nerves get to him. Volko was the defending champ and he just looked flat.
Well I guess at least we took 2 or the 3 medals and we had 6 out of 8 guys in the final. Have to stay positive. I hope the womens sprints has a better outcome. I will say that it's good that Lamont Jacobs is
so talented. This will not allow Filippo Tortu to relax. He has another Italian Sprinter his equal who will hopefully push him to new heights.

Marina Bekh Ukraine wins the Women’s LJ with a world leading 6.92m. She beats two black girls to take the title.

I'm so happy for her. Bekh has won so many silver medals at championships and she finally got the gold this time. To do it on her very last jump makes it even more special. :)

Yes Kevin Kranz didn't perform up to our expectations but at the end of the day he still won the silver medal on an off day of sprinting for him. More than I can say for Julian Reus in all of his attempts. Not that I
don't like Reus. It's just he only ran fast in Germany like many others. Kranz winning the silver medal is a step in the right direction. Wagner also made the semifinal but nerves seemed to get the best of him too. This is a
great expereince for both of these fine young German Sprinters. Kranz and Wagner are only 23 years of age so time is still on their side. Let's see how they do outdoors. Volko needs to step it up too but I'm very happy
that he still won the bronze medal when he wasn't up to form.

I am happy to see Volko SVK medal. He ran a solid 6.58 in the semi and 6.61 in the final. He did great for not being any where close to full form.
Andy Robertson UK also ran well. 6.59 in a semi. Any time under 6.60 is super elite. Plus he is 30 years old.

We shouldn't forget about the new Estonian National Record in the 60 meters set by Erik Karl Nazarov. He is only 21 years of age and made the finals. This kid is very skinny so he has so much upside ahead of him as
he builds his strength and endurance. He doesn't even look much like your typical sprinter but man can he run. Estonia is on the map with a young sprinter to watch out for.

For a country under a million people Estonia is probably the best per capital in Athletics. Great people and beautiful blonde women. I have been there a few times and it always impresses. Estonia was home to many of the leading Forest Brothers who fought bravely against the USSR well into the 1950’s.

Del Ponte wins Womens 60m final in a very impressive 7.03, Finnish girl came second. Swoboda apparently pulled out of the Championships due to a positive test for fake Coronavirus.

That time is off the charts. Ajla Del Ponte of Switzerland has the fastest 60 meters time in the world! This puts her at a level where she can compete and challenge for a medal at this summers Olympics. Simply incredible performance! :) I'm also
very happy to see Lotta Kemppinen continues to improve. She is the biggest Sprint Star in Finland in many, many decades. So happy for her to bring home the silver medal.

Ajla Del Ponte SWITZ runs a great 7.03s. Beautiful looking too.

Ukraine goes 1-2-4 in the women’s HJ. Yaroslava Mahuchikh wins easy.

Max Hess wins bronze in the TJ, behind two Cubans.

Andrew Pozzi UK runs 7.43 in 60h for silver and equals his PB.

Maksim Nedasekau Belarus wins the Men’s HJ with a world best 2.37m.

Too many great performances to list.

Forgot to mention Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s historic double gold in the 1500/3000m.
He controlled the slow paced 1500m and ran a PB in the 3000m(7:48.20) to win both fairly easily.

Also we are remiss if we do not congratulate Nadine Visser winning the womens 60mh in a PB of 7.77! I did notice that she is even more muscled than when she was competing in the Multi events a few years back.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Karsten Warhom and Armand Duplantis are the 3 best overall athletes in all of track and field. Duplantis already holds the world record in the pole vault and I fully
expect both of the other two to go on and break the world records in the 1500 meters and the 400 meters hurdles. For none track fans, please watch these incredible athletes. It's like watching
Christian McCaffrey running the football. Prepare to be amazed!

I wrote a very long, detailed report of the meet's highlights from my point of view, and then the computer crashed!
Won't try to re-do it, but it was an exciting championships!
World leading times in the Women's 60m (Del Ponte) and 60m hurdles (Visser) and the men's (Tentaglou) and women's (Bekh-Romanchuk) long jump.
Another PB and NR for Femke Bol (her 5th? this season!), who seemed effortless in winning the women's 400m and anchoring the winning Dutch relay team.
She has the same coach as Ajia Del Ponte who won the 60m.
Two new rising stars in the 800m - 19yr old Keely Hodgkinson of Britain and Patryk Dobek, a former 400m hurdler, of Poland.

Some interesting points - Tentaglou had a knee injury and only took 2 jumps in the entire competition. One jump in the qualifying round, and one jump in the final.
That's very impressive! He said that if he were healthy, he would have easily jumped 8.50. Still with his one jump final, he managed a World Leading mark.
Nadine Visser is a former heptathlete, just like country woman Dafne Schippers. Similarly, Karsten Warholm was a decathlete.
All 3 were successful multi-eventers, but it seems that the 'cross training' and strength garnered from those disciplines have served them well in the sprints. Interesting!

The men's 60m was disappointing. None of our guys did as well in the finals as they did in the semis and heats. Which means they either choked or were tired. Either way disappointing.
Another disappointment is Germany. The most populous country (83 million) competing at the championships and they had no gold medals and just 6 medals overall.
Poland, with 40% the population of Germany, had one gold medal and 10 medals overall. The Netherlands had 4 gold medals and 7 overall. Switzerland had 2 gold medals. Sweden had 1 gold medal and 4 medals overall. Finland has a population of only 5 million and they had 3 medals overall. Germany really needs to step it up!
