Letwich overthrew a guy wide open in the end zone, threw an interception, completed 2 out of 8 for 28 yards and i think lost a fumble, too. he posted 1.2 quarterback rating

what a great leader he is.

from rotoworld:

"Joey Harrington completed 18-of-39 passes and threw an interception in Week 6.

Harrington didn't look good, but his receiving corps didn't help. The Falcons dropped at least seven passes over the course of the game, many coming on key third downs. Harrington showed toughness while playing through a sprained ankle, but the Byron Leftwich era is coming."

wtf? he has 7 passes dropped, is sacked 4 times and yet somehow he is suppose to do better? wow.

I sort of hope Leftwich fails w/ how unfair Petrino is being to Harrington. Harrington has looked very solid. This is just another sign of what a short leash white players have. The good old affirmative action NFL.

wow...

Leftwich was not about to sit on the bench. Usaully a backup QB says something along these lines, "my job is to ready when im needed." Leftwich said, "im not a backup QB". His comments were selfish and non-supportive of Harrington, the starter.

My prediction, he does crappy and blames it on injury and pulls himself out.

Leftwich also said, "I'm here for a reason."

I predict that he will play crappy but receive accolades for elevating the level of quarterback play on the Falcons, regardless of how poorly he actually performs. I won't be surprised if people start comparing him to Vick instead of Harrington in order to show that Leftwich is a 'pocket passer' and just what the doctor ordered for the ailing passing game of the Atlanta Falcons.

What a calamity. Harrington is being replaced after the falcon's receivers gave new meaning to the term hands of stone -- Roberto Duran where are you. I presume none of the receivers have been benched. You would think that would have been the first move. Who's running this show, the goons in the locker room or Petrino?

I won't be watching the Saints - Falcons game this week . I'll watch Allison Fisher shoot some Nine Ball if possible, just like I did last Sunday. She be good.

7 drops, terrible pass protection ad a QB who actually played with a sprained ankle is going to the bench, being replaced by a guy, who posted a whooping 1.2 QB rating in his last game.

makes perfect sense.

I personally believe the reason Harrington is doing "poorly" is because the entire team - especially, the black players - have deliberately conspired to make him look bad,by deliberately dropping passes, not blocking as well for the ball carriers, ball carriers not running as well with the ball, the whole nine yards. All to deliberately screw Whitey, until they get another bruhthuh as qb,then they'll start trying again.

Wouldn't be surprised the Higher-Ups had a hand in it.

No need to do it deliberately, that comes naturally to them.

Harrington has been cursed by starting on three terrible teams. His biggest problem seems to be getting rid of the ball quickly enough, and accuracy is also something he struggles with at times. But he sure has never beenin a good situation to show if he's starting caliber or not as far as the talent surrounding him. On top of the Falcon's bad o-line and hands of stone receivers and TEs, they keep starting Grandpa Warrick Dunn, who's been about as effective running the ball this season as Grandpa Munster.

He's baaack, Harrington will start after Byron managed to injure himself yet again, I bet they signed him to a gaurenteed contract too.

Anyway Joey's got more lives then a cat. I really don't know how good he is, the teams he has been on have always been bad. I saw him play for years with the Lions and his production was horrible, but everything about the team was bad. Still it's a miracle he has been able to survive the Lions, Dolphins, and Falcons.

This guy Petrino has got to be a Class A jerk. The guy just won two games in a row and he's going to bench him.
YIKES!!!

Doesn't matter much though, Leftwich will be hurt again soon enough.

Yeah, none of us poor sports has to "wish" for Leftwich to get injured, he's sure to do it all on his own.

What's the over/under for how many games he plays before the "toughest QB in the NFL" manages to hurt himself?

Ahh, truely sickening...BOOBY Petrino once again shows his expertise. Good God, this f*cker Petrino is going to coddle Byron Leftwich in an even gayer fashion than Black Del Rio (with even less wins to show for it than Del Rio, I'm sure). Well, Byron does have the breasts and ass of a fat black woman, so maybe Del Rio's love for him is justified.

Brad Childress and Bobby Petrino are officially the new caste geniouses in the league!

Ditto, backrow. I hope Leftwich starts and plays the rest of the season (naturally, they will lose every week). I want all the Atlanta fans and national media to finally lose faith in this fat, slow, lazy loser of a QB.

Don't get me wrong, I don't really have any love for Harrington after the way he acted during the Vick-Dog Fighting fiasco....he said something like "He is the best athlete to ever play QB, and we lost him." He's always had a loser-attitude, and he seems to buy into the caste-system. Just look at his reaction to being benched by Petrino this week! He had no harsh words whatsoever. I guess I can't really blame him, the media has been telling him he's aweful ever since he came into the league.

That being said, I still want him to do well ONLY because he'll make a black QB look bad in comparison.

Fans boo Byron:

(snips)

As for the Falcons, all the talk was about quarterback.

In a highly debatable move, first-year Falcons coach Bobby Petrino decided to start Leftwich over Joey Harrington, who led Atlanta (3-7) to a two-game winning streak while the former Jacksonville starter was recovering from ankle surgery.

But, in a decision that caught Harrington off guard, Petrino said he was sticking with Leftwich as the No. 1 signal-caller as long as he was healthy enough to play.

Boy, did that decision ever backfire on the rookie coach. Petrino now sounds as though he might go back to Harrington for Thursday night's game against the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts.

"We've got a lot to evaluate in front of us," Petrino said. "We need to take a good look at this video and see who gives us the best opportunity to win the game Thursday. That's what we need to do. When that happens, I can't tell you."

Playing behind a short-handed offensive line, Leftwich had one of the worst games in his career, completing 15-of-28 for 106 yards with two interceptions and two fumbles. Harrington took over late in the third quarter, but it didn't matter much by then with Tampa Bay already leading 24-0.

The only solace for Atlanta was avoiding its first shutout since 2005. Harrington threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Adam Jennings with 1:10 remaining and mostly backups on the field.

The Bucs were up 7-0 early in the second quarter when Leftwich tried to scramble from the pocket on his gimpy ankles and was hit from behind by Greg White, knocking the ball loose. Barber picked it up on one bounce and scooted 41 yards to the end zone without being touched.

At that point, the Georgia Dome crowd broke into chants of "Joey! Joey! Joey!" and booed Leftwich every time he came on the field.

Leftwich certainly noticed the lack of faith, though it was hard to argue with the fans' sentiments.

"Yeah, and it happened pretty early, man," he said. "Things weren't really going bad. As a player, all I can do is play my butt off and try to lead and help this football team win." Edited by: Bart

Let's see how many more chances Leftwich is given. It should be a good study in how far the Caste system can be taken. Imagine, with all of the millions spent on scouting and somehow this clown was taken in the first round of the NFL draft. The question now becomes who will be the next paper tiger that they prop up with Vince Young and McNabb failing on a regular basis? Will it be Garrard or Campbell....

Gerrard is actually playing OK, he's not making many costly mistakes. Campbell is just another mediocre QB, if he was white noone would talk about him much.

It just shows that Petrino doesn't care about either QB, and about this year, boy he's going to be disapointed if Brohm is taken before he gets to pick next year.

This seems unusual. A sportswriter somewhat advocating for Joey Harrington. Don't imagine that is the in vogue thing to do.

Bobby Hebert talks about Joey Harrington
Former Saints quarterback talks to T-P sports writer Brian Allee-Walsh about the improved play of New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Joey Harrington.

he has had some good practices with the Saints. He and Brunell were the main qbs for the black and gold scrimmage the other day Drew Brees did not play because of his mother's death, please say a prayer for him. He had disowned his mother and stopped talking to her a while back- "Drew has claimed that his relationship with his mother, Mina Brees, an attorney in Austin, Texas, suffered when he did not choose her as his agent. Later, during the election season of 2006, Brees threatened to sue his mother if she continued to use his image in her campaign effort to become a judge, citing that their relationship had become "nonexistent" since the draft" She died of undetermined causes the other day before they were ever to make up, some have said it was a suicide. I know they never were on the best of terms and Im pretty sure he grew up mostly with his grandparents, it still has to be hard on him.

So I don't know how long it would take someone to bounce back from that, but Joey Harrington looks ready to play if needed, although nowhere near the level of Brees. I'm sure that if Harrington was on another team, with a coach similar to Sean Payton and decent surrounding cast, he would do a good job. Mark Brunell still has some gas left in his tank though. IMO the Saints have a pretty good back up situation.
