Iowahas beenone of my favorite programs for a long time now. Brodell and Shada are bothquite talented. Klinkenborg is another top player. Eight white starters on D and 16 altogether, let's hope this is a strongHawkeyes team this fall.

After watching Andy Brodell in the Alamo Bowl, I can't wait to see how he does this year as a starter. At 6'3" with blazing speed, there is no reason that the NFL shouldn't give him a shot.

Draft Daddyhad Shada on its list of the 25cornerbacks in the country (which weren'tlisted in any particular order). But since whites haven't been allowed to play cornerback in the NFL for 30 years. . . Edited by: Don Wassall

It looks like TE Tony Moeaki is black.

I think Tony is somewhat Polynesian, but I don't think he's black. Many mixed Polynesians like him have dark skin, but his features are fairly white.

He's not better than Dustin Fox and we all know what's happening to him. So in truth unless shada has at least 8 INTs and a blazing 40 time at the combine I just, unfortunatly, don't see him getting a chance in the NFL.

Well it's probably safe to tally yet another white player on the starting Iowa team. 1st string WR Dominique Douglas and 2nd stringer Anthony Bowman(both from Detroit originally) were just suspended for "unauthorized use of a credit card". Expect white WR Trey Stoss to be the starter opposite Brodell.Edited by: jared

Iowa started an all-white offensive line against Iowa State last saturday... Kyle Calloway, a sophomore, is the new left tackle. theiryoung quarterback Jake Christensen is erratic at best, so i doubt if Brodell will put up big numbers until later in the season, at least.

Trey Stross didn't start at wide receiver (in fact i didn't see him play at all, perhaps he is injured), a black freshman did... BUT white true freshman Colin Sandeman has become the third receiver in the rotation and has won the starting kick return job, as well. he is a speedster.

on defense, the Hawkeyes continue to start 8 white athletes, although free safety Brett Greenwood has been replaced by senior Devan Moylan who was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA after missing most of last year with an injury.

defensive tackle Mitch King is a monster despite being under-sized, and senior linebackers Mike Klinkenborg and Mike Humpal are as good as any linebackers in the Big Ten. both could realistically earn all-conference first-team honors.

if there is a more physical, better tackling cornerback anywhere in the country than Adam Shada, i haven't seen him play. he is VERY good. Iowa's scheme calls for a base zone defense, but when they go to the nickel, Shada covers the slot receiver man to man all over the field. he completely blanketed ISU's pheomenal receiver Todd Blythe in the second half, though to be fair ISU's black quarterback sucks.

Bad news -- Andy Brodell is out for the season with a severe hamstring tear. Maybe someone here has the medical background to give us an unofficial prognisis for Andy's injury and the time frame needed for a complete healing. This kid is a very impressive receiver with the potential to star at the next level if he can break through the glass ceiling that keeps the good old black boys club in control.

Iowa WR Brodell out for season

Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) - Iowa wide receiver Andy Brodell will miss the rest of the season with a severe hamstring tear.

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz announced Tuesday that Brodell will be out after suffering the tear during the Hawkeyes 17-13 loss at Wisconsin last Saturday. Brodell, the teams primary wideout and punt returner, was second on the team with 13 catches and was averaging 14.4 yards per return.

The news was a bit more optimistic for tight end Tony Moeaki, who according to Ferentz will miss "a couple weeks." Moeaki dislocated his elbow and broke a bone in his hand on the same play against the Badgers.

Moeaki leads the Hawkeyes with 14 receptions.

He had been weirdly underused so far this year and then the injury. What a bad year for Brodell perhaps my favorite college player around today. Usually a player can completely recover from a hamstring tear so lets hope he has a standout senior season and becomes an NFL starter.

My thoughts exactly sunshine. In compiling stats this year, Andy has been grossly underused, and its not as if Iowa is an offensive power without him.

Since the season is less than 4 games old I think Brodell can actually medical redshirt this year. So at least he'll get another season of eligbility and come back bigger, stronger, and hopefully faster.

Catch Iowa if you can this year. Their defense is impressive. They've lost 2 games already, but by no fault of their "D". One of their white LBs was quite the athlete in HS. He was a track and baseball star jumping in the mid 6s and also throwing both ends of a doubleheader, tossing with a different arm each game! I believe its Klinkenborg (sp?). On one play one of their outside LBs ran down Wisconsin's back from across the field and from behind, showing great speed.

Iowa's offense is terrible, partly due to decimation by injuries, but also because of the erratic play of talented but in-experienced young quarterback Jake Christensen.

however, their defense is AWESOME!

it is a joy to watch the gang tackling that is a staple of the Hawkeyes. all 11 guys are always chasing the ball.

if there is a more physical corner in the NCAA than Adam Shada, i've never seen him play. Shada is VERY good. he had 10 total tackles in the game against Illinois, and they were all in run support. he was only thrown at one time, and he broke that pass up.

Iowa also has a talented young free safety in Brett Greenwood who had 7 combined tackles and an interception.

linebacker Mike Humpal, a phenomenal all-around athlete, had 18 total tackles, a fumble recovery, and a sack.

the Hawkeyes play defense like it is supposed to be played.

Legal troubles for Iowa: A list of Hawkeye football players who have had legal trouble since 2007. I thought it was a good idea to post this because it is a nationwide problem. Yes, I realize kids are going to make mistakes, but 14 players in less than a year? Sad.

http://www.hawkcentral.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200802 24/NEWS01/80224001/1058/HAWKS0104

Ryan Bain, DL: The 19-year-old junior-to-be was charged with interference with official acts, public intoxication and disorderly conduct April 15, 2007. Bain transferred to Akron before the 2007 football season because he wanted to improve his chance of starting.

Anthony Bowman, WR: The 19-year-old sophomore was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card, a Class D felony, on Aug. 18, 2007. On Dec. 26, 2007, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor, and was granted deferred judgment. Bowman was suspended for the 2007 season, but he has rejoined the team and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Dana Brown, RB: The 20-year-old sophomore was charged with domestic assault on Oct. 16, 2007. He was dismissed from the football team.

Dominique Douglas, WR: The 19-year-old sophomore was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card, a Class D felony, on Aug. 18, 2007. On Dec. 4, 2007, Douglas pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor, and was granted deferred judgment. He also was charged with stealing $30 worth of DVDs from Wal-Mart, which he pleaded guilty to in November 2007. The judge ordered Douglas to serve two years probation as well as pay $221.53 in restitution, a $625 civil penalty and other court costs. He was removed from the team. Douglas returned to his hometown of Detroit and is attending community college.

Ben Evans, WR: The 19-year-old red-shirt freshman was charged with drunken driving on July 30, 2007.

Tyler Gerstandt, TE: The 20-year-old walk-on football player was cited for underage possession of alcohol on May 18, 2007. The simple misdemeanor carried a $200 fine for a second offense. Gerstandt was cited for underage possession of alcohol in January 2006, according to Iowa online court records.

Clint Huntrods, long-snapper: The 22-year-old senior was charged with public urination, interference with official acts and public intoxication Sept. 6, 2007 after a police officer caught him urinating on a sidewalk. He was dismissed from the team. He issued a written guilty plea Oct. 24, 2007.

Bradley Fletcher, CB: The 21-year-old junior was charged with drunken driving on July 15, 2007. He was suspended for one game.

Arvell Nelson, QB: The 19-year-old red-shirt freshman was charged July 2, 2007, with driving with a suspended license and was scheduled to have his initial court appearance Aug. 16, 2007, but didn't show. A warrant was issued that day for failure to appear, but Nelson turned himself in to authorities and posted a $545 cash bond Aug. 21, 2007. Nelson was arrested Saturday for possession of marijuana after police found the drug in plain view on top of the desk in his dorm room.

Ricky Stanzi, QB: The 20-year-old red-shirt freshman was charged with underage possession of alcohol on May 5, 2007.

Lance Tillison, S: The 20-year-old red-shirt freshman was arrested Sept. 15, 2007, for drunken driving. Tillison pleaded guilty to the charge in Jan. 4, 2008, in a plea deal. Under the arrangement, Tillison received a deferred judgment with unsupervised probation provided his participation in a substance abuse evaluation within 30 days, attendance of a weekend drunken driving program within 120 days and payment of $625 in fines and court costs. He was suspended for two games.

Ryan Donahue, P/PK: The 19-year-old red-shirt freshman was charged with underage possession of alcohol on Feb. 15, 2008.

Brandon Myers, TE: The 22-year-old junior was arrested Dec. 23, 2007, and was charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts after running from Coralville police. Court records show Myers pleaded guilty to the charges the same day he was arrested and was charged $350 for the two offenses.

James Cleveland, WR: The 19-year-old was arrested Saturday for two counts of unlawful possession of a prescription drug and a tax stamp violation after police allegedly found 21 doses of oxycodone and 24 doses of carisoprodol in his dorm room desk.

Thanks to Electric_Slide for waking me up to what I see as a valid point about the above posted article. I think the media (even local in this case) chooses a mainly whiteteam like Iowa to pick on, while FSU and Thug U get a pass. Imagine how long their lists would be. Plus, a lot of the "crimes" mentioned above are underage alcohol possession, and the laws governing the use ofsuch things don'tmake a lot of sense. You can vote and you can go die on a foreign battlefield somewhere in the name of "protecting your country" but you can't drink here at home. I'm a teetotaler and that still doesn't seem right. I'm sure a detailed inspection, such as this, of the records of football players at a majority black program would include much higher numbers of violent crimes and other, more serious charges than underage possession of alcohol, than a mainly white team like Iowa. I think those incidents are covered up more and result in fewer charges being filed and less discipline being handed down.

I was about to say that in Canada many of those offenses are citations. If I lived in the US I think I could have record as long as my arm for under age drinking, urinating in public, public intoxication and drinking of alcohol in public and I haven't been a drinker much past about 25. In fact the last time I was in my old neighborhood I drank in the park with a buddy who still lives there.....

Hawkeye pleads not guilty to drug charges

Associated Press - March 6, 2008 11:34 AM ET

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Suspended Iowa football player James Cleveland has pleaded not guilty to drug charges.

The wide receiver enter a written plea on Wednesday to three charges - a drug tax stamp violation and two counts of unlawful possession of prescription drugs. A preliminary hearing is set for March 14.

Cleveland was arrested last month in his dorm room by campus police after officers found 21 units of the prescription pain killer oxycodone and 24 doses of the muscle relaxant carisoprodol in his room.

Cleveland was arrested along with his teammate and roommate, Arvell Nelson. Nelson, a quarterback, was charged with possession of marijuana. He has not entered a plea.

Coach Kirk Ferentz suspended both players after their arrests.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/8181586/Iowa:-Warrants-is sued-for-former-players
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Two former Iowa football players are accused of sexually assaulting a woman on campus last year, and university police have issued warrants for their arrests.

Cedric Everson III and Abeberell "Abe" Satterfield, both former defensive backs, are accused of second degree sexual abuse, the school said in a statement Tuesday. Satterfield also is accused of third degree sexual abuse.

The school said the alleged assault happened Oct. 14, 2007, at a dormitory. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement that the players left the program soon after.

"This situation has always been serious and significant. I am concerned for everyone involved," he said. "Because this is still a legal matter and the information is sensitive, I cannot discuss the specifics of those conversations at this time."

Everson appeared in five games last season for Iowa, assisting on one tackle. Satterfield did not appear in a game.

Johnson County prosecutor Janet Lyness said she has been in contact with attorneys for Everson and Satterfield and expects them to turn themselves in soon.

Second-degree sexual abuse carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Third-degree sexual abuse carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

A criminal investigation was launched in November and the case raised questions over the university's handling of the investigation and a judge's order, at the request of prosecutors, to seal documents related to the inquiry.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen newspaper filed a lawsuit in January seeking access to records in the university's investigation. Earlier this month, the newspaper filed a motion asking a judge to force the university to release an index of documents being withheld in the investigation.

"This has been a difficult situation for everyone involved. From the day we learned about the incident, I have been deeply concerned and we have taken it seriously," athletic director Gary Barta said in a statement. "Our first concern was for the young woman."

He said his staff has followed university procedures and protocol, and that last fall the case was "turned over to the proper authorities in full cooperation of the legal process."

"I look forward to being able to explain the handling of this matter more completely in the near future," he said.
