I was looking at a picture collection of the hardest hitters in NFL history and Chuck Cecil was one of them. He was on the cover of SI with a caption of something like is Chuck Cecil to dangerous for the NFL. From what I could gather he was a fierce hitting safety and pro bowl player. Can anyone else provide more info on him.

Cecilmade All-Pro and was the John Lynch of his brief era. Then the NFL began singling him out and levying huge fines on him for allegedvicious hits.Cecil played for the Packers in the late '80s and early '90s and started alongside another white safety, the last team tostart two white safetiesuntil the Rams did it a few times a couple of years ago.

Cecil was singled out and blackballed out of the league. At the height of his career noteam wanted him and he was gone from the NFL by 1994 at the age of 29. He signed briefly with the Oilers in '95 but was cut and was finished as a football player. The treatment of Chuck Cecilwas one of the most outrageous injustices since the NFL implemented the Caste System full force in the mid-1980s.

Fairly small guy as well. But even Chuck admits those hits were hard on him and his physical condition towards the end of his career was in decline.

Cecil put the the big smack on too many of the games supposedly superior affaletes. Receivers were afraid to get near him. He had to go.

Cecil was by far one of my favorite defensive players in league. The dude was just fearless and would crush people coming across the field. It's amazing that he was a pro bowler in '92, yet only lasted two season after that, one with the Cards and one with the Oilers. He was targetted by the league for being one of the last whites that refused to bow down to the new "masters".

Growing up a viking fan, I detested the Green Bay packers, but I loved Chuck Cecil. One year, he put a devastating blow on a vikings receiver (I can't remember who)leaving the player laid out on the field. I believe this was the first fine and suspension for Chuck Cecil's hard hitting. After serving his suspension he came back a few weeks later against the redskins and put a hit on tight end Ron Middleton, knocking the tight ends helmet off and knocking out Ron Middleton. In the same game he nailed redskings running back Ricky Ervins, knocking him out cold as well. (They broke into the game I was watching with highlights of both of these hits, they were absolutely devastating)

Later that week Ron Middleton was interviewed and he pissed and moaned about Cecils playing style, a bunch of affletes jupmed on the bandwagon, pretty soon the media was piling on Chuck Cecil. The rest is history. Chuck went from the pro-bowl to out of the league in two years, nobody wanted him after that. A bit of good news however. He is Don Nickeys coach
