I was searching for some information pertaining to Japanese Baseball, and found this interesting item at ESPN.

Sadaharu Oh, Japan's Babe Ruth, set the Japanese pro baseball record of 55 homers in 1964. Since then, two players -- both Americans -- have challenged and probably would have eclipsed his mark . . . if only Oh hadn't take extraordinary measures to protect his record.

In 1985, Randy Bass went into the final series of the season with 54 homers. But the opposing Tokyo Giants, managed by Sadaharu Oh, didn't allow Bass' bat to get anywhere near a baseball. They intentionally walked Bass in every at bat in the final two games, and he ended the season one shy of the record.

In 2001, it looked like a rerun. Tuffy Rhodes managed to tie Oh's mark, hitting 55 for the Kintetsu Buffaloes, but then faced another Oh-managed team that refused to give him anything to hit. Oh's pitching coach, Yoshiharu Wakana, admitted, "I didn't want a foreigner to break the record."

In 2002, another repeat -- this time with Alex Cabrera, who also hit 55 with plenty of time left in the season. He'd remain at 55 -- and Oh would remain in the record book. "They didn't want me to get the record," Cabrera said. "The last 20 at-bats of the season, I think I only saw one strike. All records are for the Japanese."

We give Ichiro, George Sisler's hit record despite the fact that Ichiro had way more at bats in 20 or so more games. What a load of Bushido!(from an old Rick Reilly article)

Seriously, this is an extreme cultural double standard. Hopefully, our fighters clobber them in the world baseball classic.

Good for the Nipponese. I would like them even better if they had zero foreign players.

'Our fighters' aren't exactly our fighters. 'Now batting for the U.S., Alex Rodriquez.' You betcha. 'Alex is now saying FU to the crowd, and the crowd loves it!'

I like double standards. I would drop dead of happiness if someone ever said, 'Charles, you aren't worth a darn, but since you're a fine white Christian young man we're giving you the keys to the kingdom, or at least the opportunity to make copies of your own.'

Rice University once gave full scholarships to white men who met their (very high) admission standards. Thousands of poor boys made into doctors, attorneys, accountants and petroleum engineers. But that's not fair! We can't have that.

But that doesn't mean things have now been made 'fair'.&nbsp ;Rather all the preferences go against poor white boys, regardless of wit or grit. That's a level of stupidity the Japanese will never sink to.

In New York, FU means, "I love you. Thank you very much."

Baseball is different for fans in Japan. They have clubs which meet on their own time to practice cheers and routines. They are rarely apathetic and make a god-awful racket the entire game regardless of the score.

So maybe it's not a game so much as it's a noisy and fun social event with religious overtones. Having non-Japanese stars and record holders would reduce this feeling.

If Japanese baseball (like other Japanese sports) is a quasi-religion then the players are quasi gods. Japanese aren't going to 'worship' an inferior being like a foreigner (by definition all foreigners are inferior to Japanese). Foreigners who are too successful do not have their contracts renewed.

Are Americans worshiping when they watch sports? If so, are they worshiping their inferiors or their superiors? Is it possible to worship an equal?

Hey Japan:

If you don't want foreign players to play in your league, keep them out. It's your league after all. We understand.

But if you let foreigners join your league, let them put up the numbers they can. Or stop them through good pitching/defense.

The main reason Japan has fallen out of favor with the Washington/New York/Hollywood axis is because of its "xenophobia"and failure to embrace "multiculturalism." But yeah, if you're gonna let "Yanks" play, then it's bush league to put it kindly to protect a record in such a manner.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Tuffy Rhodes is black. The Japanese aren't exactly known as being friendly towards "african-americans" They see them as an inferior race like many whites do. In fact, some restaraunts in Japan wont even serve blacks. Thats just the way their culture is. We could learn a lot from the Japanese

Oh,but Heaven forbid, that Whites should ever have done the same to aaron or bonds,or any other black "players". Japanese can get away with it( And good for them, don't get me wrong ),simply because they're non-White.

oh I totally agree. The one thing the Japs did right which we didn't was that they built their society without slavery or cheap labor. I hate to be overly critical but we whites in earlier times were greedy and we sacrificed the future of our society by bringing in outsiders (blacks, illegals from Mexico) in order to make a quick buck. If we had done what the Japanese did, we wouldn't have this problem

And don't forget Jewish "businessmen", conning Whites into brining the non-Whites in for the cheap labor - and,of course, sports.

Actually, the Japanese took in many Jews, hoping to tap into their stereotyped economic dirty tricks. Shanghai ghetto was quite large.

Is there such a thing as an Oriental Jew, complete with slanted eyes? What tribe are they?

Interesting thread. Funny thing is, though, that Sadaharu Oh is not Japanese. Physically, he is half-Chinese, and he is not a Japanese citizen. His three daughters also did not choose Japanese citizenship. They have Taiwanese citizenship along with their father. The Japanese have always played a face-saving game with these facts. Pretend hard enough that something does not exist, and then in your collective minds it does not, even though it does.

Oh`s Chinese father was reportedly treated brutally by the Japanese secret police during the war years.

Oh was banned more than once from HS baseball competitions because he was considered a "gaijin," an outsider or foreigner.

Oh`s accomplishments were something the Japanese wanted to show the Americans with pride in the `60s and `70s. See what we Japanese can do at your national sport! All the while, they knew inside that he was not really like them.

These facts added fuel to the fire during the absurd, racist acts of Oh`s teams in trying to prevent foreign players such as Randy Bass, Tuffy Rhodes, and Alex Cabrera from breaking his single-season HR mark.

Interestingly, in addition to the non-Japanese Oh being their HR king, their all-time hits leader, Isao Harimoto, is an ethnic Korean. He was very open about his ethnic background during his career from what I`ve read.

Their all-time pitching wins leader, Masaichi Kaneda, is also an ethnic Korean.

Their "Iron Man" for consecutive games played, who broke Lou Gehrig`s record until later surpassed by Cal Ripken, Sachio Kinugasa, is half-black from an American father.

The active "Iron Man" of Japanese pro baseball, Tomoaki Kanemoto of the Hanshin Tigers, is also an ethnic Korean and proud of his heritage.

Their two biggest sports stars of late-and I mean this literally-Olympic hammer throw champion Koji Murofushi is half-his mother was a Romanian Olympian in the javelin, and young star baseball pitcher, 6-foot-5 Yu Darvish of the Nippon Ham Fighters-you will see him at the Beijing Olympics-is half-Iranian.

It gnaws at so many Japanese that they have so many sports starts who are not "pure" Japanese. Most of them still try to believe they constitute a nearly homogeneous population-the reality is it`s a little more diverse than they want to admit.

I guess there are many ways in which Japanese men typically don`t measure up.

LabMan: Thanks for the kind words. Man, I was just on YouTube reading comments on various videos from the Calzaghe/B-Hop fight and I realized once again how stupid so many people are-wiggers and blacks.

I also realized how indispensable this site is for people to get different viewpoints on many issues affecting Americans-not just in sports-because the MSM doesn`t tell the truth all too often.

Our Buccos are off to an 8-12 start.

I think big roster moves will be made from the beginning of May. We`ll know if the new management is serious about winning when they draft in June, too.

I`ve checked out the ANU site a few times. I was just on it the other day, as a matter of fact. A lot of interesting stuff going on there as well.

I always had deep respect for the Japanese because of their devotion to their race. They are definitely a model for how the US and Europe should be. I've never been to Japan but I knopw for a fact they definitely don't have any of the social, cultural, and political problems that we have here. Economically they're still a dynamo considering they're virtually an island compared to the United States. Considering that their population is shrinking they definitely would rather commit suicide than allow foreigners to come in to fill their labor void. For that they deserve plenty of praise.

The primary reason Japan fell out of favor with the Powers That Be in this country is because of the refusal of Japan to embrace and institutionalize"diversity," "multiculturalism" and the other poisons that have destroyed the U.S.

Imagine how life in the U.S. would be today if we had followed the example of Japan, and kept America for Americans.

It`s hard for the Japanese these days because they have a lot of concerns with a population that has the world`s highest percentage of people over 60, and also one of the lowest birth rates among developed countries. There will be a bit of an increase in immigration in the coming years, especially for health care workers from other Asian countries-many of these women will get married to Japanese and stay here-and the government will tweak immigration standards as needs be for other jobs, but, for the most part, the Japanese will maintain a country that is for all intents and purposes, Japanese. The faces of a somewhat larger minority of half Japanese and foreign-born naturalized Japanese will be a little more noticeable in increasing numbers, but, in my opinion, Japan will essentially remain Japanese.

I think the Japanese look at the U.S. and even Europe more and more in recent years with a mixture of fear and disdain with regard to the immigration policies of those countries, and how they have caused such troubles as to vastly outweigh the supposed benefits. The Japanese greatly value such things as order, peace, stability and harmony in society. They see hordes of immigrants as threats to these things, and are incompatible with the way they do things. Little changes here and there, but wholesale changes? No way.

Japan has its other problems to be sure: a shamefully high suicide rate(more than double the U.S.) which can`t just be explained away by the lack of shame(sin?) connected to suicide in Japanese culture, a high number of young people who can`t function in society and are shut-ins in their homes, much higher levels of sex crimes than are reported, a political system that is mired in all sorts of problems these days, to name a few. Japan is far from perfect, of course.

But Don and LabMan are right: the Japanese haven`t fallen for what the U.S. was offering in terms of runaway multiculturalism and diversity. They believe they must maintain their identity-at all costs-or they will really cease to exist.

What is America`s identity? (I know this sounds like a title of a Samuel Huntington book.) But seriously, what is it? A lot of the Europeans I`ve come across in my years here say the same things about their respective countries.

I truly fear for the future of the United States of America.

Sorry for the long-winded speech. I`ve had my say now.

Back on topic: In Japanese pro baseball, they stick to a foreign player limit-4 foreigners on the top team roster at any time. There can be more in the organization, but only 4 can play for the big club on a given day. I don`t always agree with some of their rules limiting foreigners in baseball and other pro sports, but I sure as hell think it`s better than what we do in some of ours( 2/3 black NFL, 3/4 black NBA)

Not long winded at all VanSlyke, and absolutely true, again the value of this site, and all that Don Wassall has done, comes to the forefront. If it takes a strong interest in sports to bring people here so much the better.

As you are a baseball guy like myself,I'm sure you have asked yourself,"what is the identity of America's pastime"?,it is headed toward non American status, just as most American cities, and even suburbs are today. If only one person that comes to this site realizes that all events taking place in our society are "socially engineered"by world planners, again, this site has awakened someone.Sports are so popular in the U.S. that to blend world events into same is a solid way to reach those of us that have led astray by the mainstream media.

You say,"I truly fear for the future of the United States of America",I am with you 100%,and realize that nothing can be done unless our population is awakened to the fact that,"Our Demographics are our Destiny".The Japanese are aware.

The Japanese, unlike Westerners, value masculinity in men and femininity in women, which is why asian women are so attractive to white men -- not because asian women are submissive, but because they act like ladies, unlike a lot of American women, who are reared their whole lives to despise white men and feel like victims.

As bad as the Japanese pro baseball thing is for white American transplant players, at least the Japanese are trying to maintain something of their -- for lack of better wording, at least by me -- "c**k-rights."

It's too bad we can't build cars the way we do fighter planes because then the Japanese wouldn't be laughing at our Fords.

Japanese kids are phenomenal at baseball not because they have some kind of racial advantage but because they train hard and they work well together.

I can't help but feel that sometimes in football the white quarterback would do even better if he were surrounded mostly by other whites.

Jason Whitlock, the black writer, mentioned this explicitly in a column during the last football season, pointing out how Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were put in an environment where they could thrive, in sharp contrast to Carson Palmer's plight on the criminal-filled Bengals. He took a lot of grief for it, but his point is irrefutable.
