Just saw the fight, and wow, that was something truly remarkable. Tremendous win in a titlefight for Serget Kovalev, and Nathan Cleverly also deserves a great deal of respect, he fought with a lot of heart and gave a noteworthy effort. Cleverly tried to make some adjustments and dictate the fight, but ultimately, couldnt handle the sustained punishment.
Sergey Kovalev is probably the most dangerous puncher in boxing. He has sadly literally killed a man in the ring (RIP to brave Roman Simakov), and his power is a brutal, accumulative type of punching power. It's not one punch he knocks you out with, its several in the whole round that hurt you and force you on a knee. This type of brutal, prolonged, and accumulative power is the worst and can seriously injure people. I'm glad the fight was stopped when it was. No need for Cleverly to take any more punches or risk sustaining an injury.
This fight is one of the more one sided beatings Ive seen in a titlefight in literally years. This fight was a thrashing. Kovalev's KO's over Negroes Campillo, White, Thompson, and now Cleverly are some of the worst destructions Ive ever seen in over 15 years of watching boxing.
Cleverly is a very talented, speedy, rangey boxer and its very impressive that Kovalev was able to knock him out so easily. Kovalev now has 2 KO wins over top light heavyweights Gabriel Campillo and Nathan Cleverly. These are extremely impressive results as both Cleverly and Campillo are great fighters and top10 when Kovalev KO'd them so easily.
As a final point, Roy Jones JR.'s commentary for HBO was disgusting. He always tries to discredit white fighters. Even when he says something good about a white fighter, he then says BUT here's something bad. Roy was being disrespectful to Sergey and claimed that Sergey 'can't go 8 rounds'. What a retarded and utterly absurd statement. How would Roy know that until he's seen Sergey in that situation?
Roy must be forgetting his KO losses to Lebedev and Green and decision loss to Calzaghe. Maybe he's still bitter about the losses and taking it out in his commentary. Roy's commentary is consistently anti-white and his comments tonight were absurd and out of place.

This is surprising because I always found Roy Jones JR neutral and honest with his observations. I always thought it was ironic Emmanuel Steward was the most pro-white/genuine on panels alongside other white commentators.

I agree that Emmanuel Steward was largely race neutral. He trained many white boxers successfully and his commentary was also fair. George Foreman is also an excellent commentator and calls things fairly.
I find Roy Jones to be spiteful towards whites and non-Americans. Newsflash to Roy: We're no longer living in the 1980's and the best boxers arent from USA. It seems Roy is desperate to hang on to this idea that things today are as they were in the 80's. Boxing has changed.
Roy's comments tonight, he was being negative toward Sergey and was implying that if the fight continued Cleverly would have won because Sergey would be tired and unable to go into the later rounds. This type of commentary is absurd and there is no way Roy can comment on Sergey's stamina because he simply hasnt seen a fight yet where Sergey has had to go past 8. After the fight, Roy also said that BHOP would easily beat Sergey. Once again, that is an absurd statement and it would be a very competitive fight.
Roy was clearly rooting for Sergey to lose. Its not like he was supporting Cleverly. He just seemed to be rooting against Sergey more than anything.
Roy's comments concerning Wlad Klitschko, Gennady Golovkin and other white fighters have also been negative, I find.

George Foreman is the best commentator Ive ever heard call a fight. Ive heard him several times standing his ground, and defending the white boxer while the other commentators tried desperately to make anti-white points.
Sergey continues to impress and pass every test. I was especially impressed with his excellent jab. He kept Cleverly at bay and confused with it, before lowering the boom on him. By the way it was an excellent stop by the ref precluding Clev from sustaining severe punishment and injury.
Also, it appeared that Sergey was a cruiserweight fighting a super middleweight, even though Clev outweighed him by a pound during the weigh in. The future world looks great for Sergey.
I hope Cloud beats retarded felon Stevenson on their upcoming fight. Either way the winner has Kovalev to look forward to.

Foreman was the only honest one in recent years. They fired him after he pointed out that the judges were crooked at the end of the Oquendo-Byrd fight. The last thing he said was "those are the best judges that money can..." and he said that boxers need to stop accepting it. He also spoke out about how unfairly Golota was being treated by the so called referee, Randy Neuman (who became a financial advisor who helps the boxing mobsters launder their money) in the very weird (one of Golota's many) Grant fight. But I believe Foreman agreed to stop criticisizing them in order to get his job back. I haven't heard him in a long time.

Joe Calzaghe was really gutted about Clevs defeat.He gave a pre fight interview saying he was more nervous for this fight than he was for his own fights.Cleverly was billed as the new Calzaghe but the Russian was abit too strong for the Welsh lad.Cleverly though is still one of the best Lt heavies in the world who i would pick against the likes of Cloud and Dawson.Its uncanny how hard Kovalev hits though,that type of power is seen only once a generation if that.
Whites now dominate from middle to heavy which has been the case for about 5 years now but there has never been the amount of stars and potential stars aswell as potential superfights we see now.Kovalev v Froch,Kovalev v Golovkin,Froch v Golovkin,Kessler v Golovkin,Kessler v Kovalev are all fights that could happen.Then you have young guys like George Groves who fights Froch next that could be in the mix.

Kovalev will KO Hopkins. Hopkins or Ward will never face Kovalev because they know they will get knocked out.
Roy Jones hates white fighters and he always has. He ducked Joe Calzaghe for years until he could not run anymore and Calzaghe exposed him. Hell Void is the same but he stays away from any risks.
Yes, when Kovalev was asked who he wanted to fight next he said Hopkins, but Hopkins would drag his feet, so Cleverly agreed to fight him in his home town, with his referee and judges.

Kovalev would knock out all the light heavyweight champions, but I doubt if they will fight him. Hopkins would not fight him, but Kovalev was his mandatory, rather than wait forever, Kovalev decided to go ahead and fight Cleverly. Hopkins is one racist negro.
Hopkins is NOT quoted as saying white fighters are flatfooted. If you read the article you will see Hopkins says "...Tito, Kelly Pavlic, Tarver, and Cloud..." are flatfooted and suggests Kovalev is like those four. I presume Hopkins is trying to persuade others to believe Kovalev is just a stationary puncher. Though I am no supporter of Hopkins, what he said is not racist -its just not factual. Kovalev's massive guns are mounted atop a very agile and fleet footed machine. For Hopkins to even discuss Kovalev publicly suggests to me he knows Kovalev is the man to beat in the division.
And I have been writing all along that Kovalev is the heir apparent of light heavies.

I have read the article and I know what you are saying but he said the same thing about Adamek, he's stiff. I know what Popkins is implying at and he throws Cloud and Tarver in there for good measure. He thinks Kovalev is a "stiff, whiteguy."
Now this I agree with. His intentions were probably to imply some racial nonesense. But his statement was not. Nor was it racist for him to say to Calzaghe: "I've never lost to a white". That was factual. And Calzaghe didn't have the courage to respond: "I've never lost to a black". Which he never did. But when Hopkins said to Pavlik: "...you don't have what black fighters have...", now that was racist.
But its too bad he didn't include Martinez as being flat footed. Now that would have been funny.

Yes, indeed, that is what Hopkins said to Calzaghe. I stand corrected. However, I was correct, in that Calzaghe didn't show the courage to reply in kind to him.
Hopkins' recent comments seem to me to be born from envy and frustration that whites are now the dominant force in boxing.

Calzaghe responded days later by saying "Ill never let a white boy beat me either. Or a green boy, or a pink boy, or a orange boy for that matter."
You are correct that Joe couldnt bring himself to say black, or even brown. He was playing it safe.
