The NHL is rising like crazy after that fantastic Stanley Cup final. The dazzling Red Wings and the Penguins, the future of hockey. Sidney Crosby is the best young athlete in major sports--Labron my ass.
And in this coming draft I kid you not the next Steve Yzerman--Steve Shamkos who will be taken by Tampa Bay.
Tiger Woods doesn't know squat about this great sport.

Good to hear from you!

Hockey is an incredible team sport, and NHL games don't appear to be fixed.

As for Lebron, the good news is that most White people don't worship him. We are in a period of time where the "hype-machine" is facing "blowback." The "double-edged sword" is stabbing back at the System...

Many White people have built up an "immunity" to the extreme and constant propaganda, and that's the first step. What comes next is more vocally strong resistance. A person like this has finally developed a healthy skepticism and curiosity. He'll remark to himself, "Why is 'the next great thing' almost always black? What the hell is REALLY going on here? I don't have to be a sheep, and I don't have to support anyone that I don't want to!! DAMN IT!"

Well Lebron is not a great, hard-nosed defender like Jordan and Pippen were, he is not the passer, ballhandler, floor general or point guard that Magic Johnson was, he does not hustle, make his teammates better, and have a high basketball IQ like Larry Bird, nor does he hit clutch shots, have anything close to a consistent jumper, he can't hit free throws, and he seriously only has one or two dunks. Dominique and Jordan were better dunkers. Heck Stromile Swift has more dunks than Lebron James.

I watched the last two Stanley Cup hockey games and absolutely loved them. very well played. I didn't watch two games that interesting in the NBA Finals.

Even the Euro Cup soccer matches are better than nearly every NBA game.

I am catching up on hockey, and would like to learn more.
More threads on this forum would be great.

Also, a break down of the NHL draft and the upcoming hockey season would be good too.

Dear Deadlift,

You said the games in the NHL don't appear to be fixed which
means that these athletes are most likely not on steroids! As long as Steven
Shamkos doesn't use performance enhancing drugs(PEDs), you should root
for him. Games where athletes don't use steroids are just what the good
doctor ordered to help hockey have more integrity than baseball and track
where athletes tend to cheat with steroids. No steroids means good role
models and family-friendly entertainment. He shoots, he scores! And he
does it on his own merits instead of getting juiced!

Only a handful of hockey players ever did the juice (steroids). Tony Twist was one. Dave Morrisette was another and John Kordic (R.I.P.) was another. And these guys are all no longer in the league and they're all from a time in hockey when fighting was a LOT more prevalent. These guys juiced to get bigger to fight on the ice (which still doesn't make it right), not to score goals. Things are different in the league now, as fighting isn't anywhere near as prominent as it was 15 or 20 years ago. Those kinds of players and/or personalities have slowly faded out of the game.

Once in a while, players will be prone to using stimulants such as ephedrine, but drug use in hockey is NOTHING compared to the drug use in football or baseball. I know this first hand as I played the game for 15 years.Edited by: Ground Fighter

MODS: Could the title of this thread be corrected?

I've seen Stamkos play a few times (when Tampa was playing Carolina), and I definitely look forward to seeing more of him.

Is ESPN continuing to "doubt" young players?

Stamkos not ready for prime time

Saturday, January 10, 2009 | Print Entry

Hear that? That's the faint sound of a disgusted former head coach sputtering "told you so" with full justification. After being shown the door as Tampa Bay's bench boss earlier this season, Barry Melrose insisted Steven Stamkos was not ready for the NHL. He said the rookie wasn't strong enough yet. Most in the hockey world pooh-poohed this sentiment, countering that the first overall draft pick of 2008 was indeed ready and rarin' to go immediately. Yeah, well, maybe not.

Young Steven was a healthy scratch, for the first time this season, during the Lightning's 4-3 victory over Anaheim on Friday night. And to inflate Melrose's vindication, he was put on a conditioning program to strengthen up. In all honesty, the move was long overdue. Stamkos hasn't contributed much of anything in terms of scoring all year, 14 points altogether. It's not that he hasn't been given ample opportunity. Replacement coach Rick Tocchet has provided Stamkos with chances on the power play and on Tampa's top line. He simply hasn't delivered. And if you're a fantasy owner, it's time to let go.

What is really being "argued" here? Me thinks that this has NOTHING to do with "fantasy hockey".. Like ESPN is "so worried" about all of our hypothetical fantasy leagues!

Truth is, there's bitterness here and the denial of reality. Wouldn't nearly every 18 and 19-year-old need to "adjust" to the level of play in the NHL, not to mention their UNIQUE teammates? This should be obvious, right?

Why did Stamkos have to be SUPERMAN IMMEDIATELY? Why exactly?? It makes me suspect that ESPN wants White talent to "disappear" in the minors for several years, rather than accumulate NHL stats as teenagers. Kind of like the "racial apprenticeship" in the NFL and NBA.

The Thin Blue Line: Myers here to stay

In response to anyone insinuating otherwise, no, I don't have anything against Tyler Myers. First featured in this space on Oct. 21, Myers was flagged as a youngster to keep tabs on. Now that his spot with the Buffalo Sabres is more secure, the 19-year-old makes his debut in the Top 75 at No. 64. But it wouldn't hurt to keep the hype to a minimum, either.

OK....

Please, don't hurt me Sweeeettty...

The "man" wanted to hold Stamkos back, but he couldn't!

3 goals and 2 assists in a win against the Flyers, 8-7! He's been sensational!

Stamkos, Crosby and AO are 3 great (All-Time caliber IMO) players and it will be exciting to see which one emerges as the best player of this generation. I thought AO was going to be the best goal scorer but Crosby and Stamkos have caught AO and maybe surpassed him in their goal scoring abilities, SS has the best shot IMHO. I'm a Lightning fan so I'm of course hoping Stamkos emerges as this generations Gretzky.

I'm happy for Stamkos, but it would have been good for hockey if Washington could have "made a series" out of it...

Stamkos finishes the season with 60 goals, 10 more than Malkin! :)

Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos has joined the NHL’s 60-goal club.

He scored at 3:29 of the third period at the last home game of the Winnipeg Jets.

He sent a slap shot past goaltender Ondrej Pavelec’s glove on a pass from Martin St. Louis to put Tampa ahead 3-1.

Although they chanted “No goal Stamkos” all night every time he had a chance at the puck and booed initially, Winnipeg fans gave him a standing ovation a few seconds after he scored.

Just 19 players have scored 60 goals or more in a single season.

The exclusive group includes players such as Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull.

Alex Ovechkin is the only player to score 60 since 1996. The Washington Capitals star had 65 goals in the 2007-08 season.
