I hope that Boytsov can stay healthy. He's injury prone. But he's a terrific fighter. I recognized that the first time I saw him.

I don't think it'll be long before Chakhiev moves up to heavyweight....

I hope not. He's very talented, but he's too short for heavyweight. He fought for several years in the amateurs at 175, before moving up and winning Gold in the 2008 Olympics in the "under 200" division.

He'll be overweight above 200, like Chambers and Chagaev.

If he Chakhkiev remains at cruiserweight, he can dominate that division.

Right, but the money is so big in the heavyweights....

I absolutely love the cruiserweight division right now! Big guys who can punch like hell, but are in shape and willing to trade all day. In reality, several of the heavyweights now should get in actual boxing shape and they would find themselves cruisers.<div>
</div><div>Chakhkiev should remain at cruiser, IMO. As someone pointed out, he is short for a heavy. Now sometimes it works great to be short (Tyson and Marciano, for example) but more often than not it can negatively affect a fighter's ability to dominate. He stays at cruiser and he will become a champion for sure!</div><div>

Chakhkiev has fast hands and a killer instinct. Those are two weapons I would place an absolute premium on if I were creating the ultimate fighter. He seems to have good defense as well as good pop.<div>
</div><div>But he's listed at only 6'0", and it wouldn't surprise me if he was slightly under that. He just doesn't look to have the skeletal frame to move up to heavyweight and be successful.</div><div>
</div><div>I really wish 'The Contender' would do another cruiserweight season, with a lot of these excellent European fighters. These guys have it all: they are ripped, very athletic, have excellent skills and fundamentals and seem to have great heart as well. They are exciting to watch.</div>

Well back to Boytsov, any news on his hand injury??

It's apparently healed, and so he's scheduled to fight on a Golden Boy card in Las Vegas in April (either on the April 9 HBO PPV or on the undercard on April 16).

Denis Boytsov will finally be back in action this coming Saturday.

His opponent will be American journeyman Matthew Greer (14-6).

I hope Boytsov will be more active in the future. It's sad to see his talent going to waste.

Referee stops it in the 6th.

Greer had been taking a very bad beating from Boytsov, but only went down once.

I hope Greer got paid enough to play the punching bag. Not pretty, and rather obvious what it was. Ref should have stopped it as soon as it started.

Boytsov didn't look as sharp yesterday as he has in the past:

His hand has been healed since April, but his idiot promoter Kohl kept him inactive. Too bad Boytsov isn't promoted by Sauerland, then he'd have better opportunities.
At 213lb I'm thinking Boytsov may go down to Cruiserweight now and stay there until the Klitschkos retire. He's been fighting in the 220's for the last five years..

That's too much of a weight loss. He was fighting in the 220's before, and looking great. Same deal with Adamek (see his interview yesterday). Boxing badly needs at least one more heavyweight, a superheavyweight, division. Guys weighing in just over 200 have no place in boxing right now unless they face a huge handicap by competing against giants. Meanwhile the lighter weight divisions are separated by an absurd 2 or 3 pounds, and the light heavyweight division encompasses only a ridiculous seven pounds.

Denis Boytsov will be fighting Darnell Wilson on Jan 28.

I was hoping to see him in with a better opponent.

This is whats disturbes me with many of the East Euro fighters today. They dont seem to be interested in making professional boxing their life.
Boytsov, Oleg Platov, Ustinov, and many more just use boxing as a piggy bank while setting up a business in Europe or when they need extra cash to go on vacation or help their family. Boytsov has already stopped two fighters who beat Wilson....

Im a huge Denis Boytsov fan, and I dont mind Darnell Wilson as being his scheduled opponent, to be honest I think its a decent matchup all things considered. Just my own opinion.

Denis did not look impressive in his last outing (TKO 6 Matthew Greer), and he has been largely inactive, fighting very infrequently for the last 2 years (in fact, this will only be his 4th fight in over 2 years). Boytsov's career hit a high-note in 2009 with successive impressive TKOs over Garcia, Bidenko, and Gavern. Since then inactivity has taken its toll and Denis looks rusty. Right now, I think Denis needs a fight to gain him back his confidence.

Darnell Wilson is a very tough, durable guy, and has a good punch. Wilson is getting older and close to the twilight of his career, but he is a "name" opponent and former world champion. Nevertheless, I see this as a good step-stone fight for Denis.

Ultimately, I find myself in large agreement with dempseyfire in that after this fight, Boytsov certainly needs to step up his level of opposition.

Providing he beats Wilson convincingly, Id love to see Boytsov fight one of the following opponents next:

Manuel Charr, 20-0 (11)
Ray Austin, 28-6-4 (18)
Bowie Tupou, 26-1 (16)
Johnathon Banks, 27-1-1 (18)
Oliver McCall, 56-11 (37)

Lets also keep in mind that Denis Boytsov is only 25 years old. Ive also read that his amateur career was rushed, in the sense that he turned pro early and thus gave up a large portion of his amateur career. So, Denis will have a larger learning curve than most.

Nothing wrong with building up slowly, and at 25 years old, Denis Boytsov certainly has a good 5 years to build himself up to a titleshot!
