I don't understand the whole "Hispanic" thing. Oscar looks like a white man to me, isn't he one? What about Ricky Martin, Cameron Diaz, Canelo Alvarez, Leo Messi, Roberto Guerrero, Sergio Martinez, Shogun Rua, Junior Dos Santos etc? Many friends of mine, from the US, call them Hispanics or Latinos and don't classify them as white. Enlighten me please!

People from Spain are white. But to understand why many "Hispanics" are not white, you need to understand the history of Spanish conquest in the Americas.

The Spanish settlers in places like Mexico intermarried with the Indians much more than the British did in the USA. The majority of Mexicans have some Indian heritage.

And in places like Cuba and Columbia, where there were more negro slaves, the Spanish and Indians mixed with the negroes.

A "Hispanic" can be White, Indian or negro, or any combination of the three.

Some Mexicans are pure White. For me, BJ Flores appears to be 100% White.

Some are pure Indian - to me, Chris Arreola and Marco Antonio Barrera look to be 100% Indian.

Most Mexicans are a mix of Indian and Spanish. Oscar De La Hoya, the Marquez brothers, Eric Morales, Alfredo Angulo and Brandon Rios fit this category.

There were far more negro slaves brought to places like Puerto Rico than to Mexico, so most people there are a mix of Negro and Spanish. Fewer Indians survived the Spanish conquest in Puerto Rico, so there are less Indian genes in the people of Puerto Rico than of Mexico. Some Puerto Ricans have predominantly negro ancestry, like Felix Trinidad, others are mostly white but I can see a little negro in them, like Kermit Cintron.

There was a much smaller Indian population and far fewer slaves in some Spanish colonies like Argentina, and there was more immigration from other European countries, so most Argentines are white. Oscar Bonavena was white, Omar Narvaez and Sergio Martinez are probably 100% white.

That being said, there are some Indians in Argentina, just not a majority like in Equador and Mexico. And there have been immigrants from everywhere to Argentina, so not everybody is white. For example, Marcos Maidana has a Spanish father and a Chinese mother.

Really to be Latino you only need to have been born in Latin America or to be of the heritage. An ethnic Pole from Argentina can be Latino or an ethnic Japanese guy from Venezuela too.

To most doped Americans, who follow the herd mentality, anyone with a Spanish last name is considered hispanic. Most negros who are 1/4 or less of Spanish, Mexican or South American ancestry will gladly claim they are hispanic to avoid being called negro, black or african american what ever that means. But the proof is in the pudding. Do they pass the eye test. Kermit Cintron is probably 1/4 black. You can just see it.

De La Hoya is probably 1/4 or less of Indian blood. The White genes in him happen to be very dominate.

Sergio Martinez may look to have Indian blood in him, but I doubt it. Look at the people of Spain. His look is very common amoungst the men there with regard to alpha males.

argentina used to be 100% white almost, very few indians there
but it's changing with inmigrants from bolivia, peru, chile and paraguay

so was the south of brazil (where the two brazilian dos santos and rua come from)
but it's also changing

same for uruguay

the south of brazil was the most white looking because they had no or few mediterranean inmigrants
while argentina and uruguay had sicilians like new york

in the rest of south america, there are few pure whites, some can appear white but they are not fully white
for example paraguayan haedo valdez

and some are from european descent, but never of spanish descent (or maybe basque )
for example colombian norberto peluffo, althought not fully white (northern italian origin)
or aguinaga the ecuadorian
or pato urrutia of ecuador too
both are of basque descent

i think maidana is not of chinese origin, his nickname is el chino because he looks like a chinese (like alvaro recoba, nicknamed el chino too)
but there are few chinese in argentina
there are more japanese, and mostly in the south of brazil
my guess is he is mostly amerindian, and from paraguay

ricky martin is white, because he has proven ancestry from corsica (=italian) and catalunia
his mother looks pretty white also
like other puerto rican legend luis miguel, of proven spanish origin and italian origin

he married white mexican of basque 100% origin aracely arambula
luis-miguel-araceli-arambula.jpg

another mexican-basque is javier aguirre, former mexico coach

but USA should avoid inmigration from these countries, because these mexicans are not the majority of the mexican population, and "they" might use these examples to make americans tolerate more latinos
and USA will look like mexico, wich would not be a good thing

i could not resist posting this video, luis miguel is my favorite singer

Yes, tho I think some of his relatives might look part Amerindian (Mestizo) - not sure about that though. Same with Canelo Alvarez and many others.

"Hispanic" is a language group not a race.

Latin American elites are much more sensible about race than many dumbed down degenerated Norteamericanos. You won't see an upper class Latin American father allowing his daughter to date a negro. Even amngst Mexicans that invade the USA, even tho they are the lowest - and darkest - and ugliest - strata of Mexican society* - it is exceedingly rare to see a senorita with a negro. I only recall seeing one.

Even in Communist Cuba, the sports stars may be black, but the ruling class is White.

Except for a few isolated pockets Mexico is a Negro-free country. When Mexicans take over a US neighborhood they kick out the blacks.

Ten per cent of Mexico is Aryan (pure northern European).

Interesting aside about one of baseball's true all time greats, Ted Williams - and this was kept top secret during his lifetime: He was of Mexican descent, but mostly Basque and I forget what else blood - but his his younger brother was an all out low riding zoot suit Chicano with a long arrest record.
