DiBella inks Erdei

Unbeaten former WBO light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Zsolt Erdei (31-0, 17 KOs) has signed with DiBella Entertainment. Erdei, a 2000 Olympian for Hungary, previously campaigned mostly in Germany under the Universum banner. He held the WBO light heavyweight title for nearly six years before moving to cruiserweight where he won the WBC belt, which he vacated just weeks later. Erdei will fight on the Martinez-Williams undercard.

Boxrec has Kenyan Samson Onyango 20-6(13) listed as Zsolt's comeback opponent. After that, I'd like to see him go after Shumenov or Cloud.

Saw photos of the fight. Congrats to Zsolt, but he looks soft, needs to train harder.

Dawid Kostecki was injured in training several weeks ago.

So Zsolt will instead be fighting former 168 world titleholder Byron Mitchell on the Froch-Johnson card in Atlantic City tonight.

Zsolt dominated every round and stopped Mitchell in the 6th.

from fightnews:

Zsolt Erdei (33-0, 18 KO's) TKO 6 Byron Mitchell (28-8-1, 21 KO's). Erdei, the former light heavyweight and cruiserweight titleholder, made easy work of Mitchell, a faded former super middleweight titleholder.

Erdei hurt Mitchell at the end of the first and dropped him twice with hard rights in the sixth. After rising a second time, referee Eddie Cotton was unsatisfied after asking Mitchell a series of questions in the corner and elected to call the fight off. Time of the stoppage was 1:58.

Zsolt showed great hand speed for a 37 year old fighter. He tore Mitchell up with blistering combinations.

Zsolt will fight once beaten Polish boxer Dawid Kostecki 36-1(24) on June 4, in Atlantic City.

Dawid Kostecki isn't Polish - he's a gypsy residing in Poland

. Cygan means "gypsy", which he has written all over his ugly boat:

Good catch, Rebaljo.

I enjoy your soccer posts but I didn't know you were a boxing fan as well.

Liverlips - I'm glad that You enjoy my soccer posts, mate

.

Being a history fanatic, I was always fascinated by the early bareknuckle periods, especially the Regency era when boxing was immensley popular among every tier of English society (You may recall that I stuck my two cents worth into the Jack Johnson thread a while ago with an account of the famous bouts between Tom Cribb and the black ex-Virginian slave Tom Molineaux). If You were to take a glance at one particular shelf of my groaning bookcases, You would see Pierce Egan's Boxiana, John Ford's Prizefighting: the Age of Regency Boximania, and J.C. Reid's Bucks and Bruisers... as well as Bartley Gorman's autobiography, King of the Gypsies (that's pikeys, as opposed to the Dawid Kostecki Romany variety

).

I was well into the sweet science during my somewhat dodgy youth and, although I never went to gyms, I had a bag set up in the garage and would lay into it for half an hour every day (quite naturally, I developed stress fractures

), in addition to speed work and shadowboxing. This came in handy for the scraps I always seemed to find myself in - I'm tall but always weighed next to nothing and my reserved nature plus sartorial tastes made me appear a bit of a toff, consequently being a prime target for every second aggressive yob out on the town...

Liverlips - I'm Australian, while both of my parents are Polish. Prior to emigrating to Australia, my father had lived in England for about eleven years.

Erdei should normally school the overrated black American easily. I hope he won't get blatantly robbed ala Sturm vs DLH or Schultz vs a fat old disgrace of the sport that Foreman was. A white European wins only by KO in the anti-white America, we all know this.
