I was really hoping Chicago would win because I think they would be an easier matchup for the Mavs. As good as the Mavs are, I think this will be a very tough series for them to win. I actually see the Heat winning, maybe 4 games to 3 or 4 games to 2. If the Heat have a good gameplan and contain Dirk I just can't see the Mavericks winning this one.

I think the Mavs have a 50/50 chance but only if the refs call a fair series. The sad part is that the NBA makes far more money off the Miami Heat and their merchandise. They are also a very young team in Miami. I think Miami will get the majority of the calls and they also have 2 big all starts in Wade and James. We will have to see how it plays out. I do know one thing. Dirk will show up with a fire in his eyes. No one wants a championship more than this guy. Let's go Mavs!

I expect Barea to have a good series, similar to the Lakers series. He couldn't play as many minutes against the Thunder because Westbrook is big and aggressive offesively. Miami doesn't have an offensive threat at point guard, so Barea should get big minutes with big production.

I don't think Dirk should be compared with Bird. Dirk is a unique superstar in his own right. A championship this year plus a few more productive years will cement his legacy as an all-time great. Bird is a once in a lifetime legend with no comparative equal. He's Larry Legend.

Two different stories. Two different paths.

LeBron James played for 7 years on the Cavs, had input on whom to get and reached the Finals once only to meet with disappointment. LeBron blamed Coach Mike Brown for the failure and then left them high and dry.

Dirk Nowitzki played for the Mavs for 13 years and reached the Finals once. He blamed the loss on no one and used it as motivation to get where he is again in 2011. Dirk, Jason Terry, assistant Darrell Armstrong and owner Mark Cuban only know the big hurt from the 2006 Finals loss.

Two different approaches. Is one better than the other? I don't know, but I do respect someone sticking it out and being committed to winning. That's dedication and believing in the team.

However, all of that goes out the window when the teams start playing. It's all about winning.

I think that many in the media and a lot of fans in general are ready to anoint Lebron and the Heat the champions already, and see a sweep or easy dismantling of the Mavs as almost an afterthought.

The real power running the NBA knows better, though, and knows that the Mavs are a totally legitimate threat to take it all. There's money in Dirk winning a ring of course, but there's bigger money in Lebron getting one. Therefore, the officiating will be canted toward favoring the Heat.

This MAY be enough to overcome the Mavs, but if Dirk brings IT, as I think he will, and the rest of the team comes through, too, I think that the officiating might get ugly, and the games themselves will get ugly, too.

-- Especially if things don't go more or less according to the script and the Mavs start to look like they'll really take this thing.

Then expect a lot of thuggish acts from the Heat, complete with chimpouts, fake injuries, fighting, deliberate attempts to injure Dirk and or Barrea, etc.

Just watch.

Great posts guys. I like your new avatar j41181. We need some more predicitons guys. I'm going to say that the Mavs win the championship in 7 games. I think every game will me pretty close with neither team winning a game by more than 10 points. I see Dallas winning and Dirk getting the NBA Finals MVP to go along with that long elusive ring he has chased his whole career.

Positive thoughts and energy guys. We need to believe!

Dirk is going to need huge performances for Marion, Terry And Barea. Marion is going to have to contain LeBrown the entire series. Terry and Barea will need to be the spark of the bench. Hopefully Pejo will get his stroke flowing with 3s.

If Dallas can steal one game in Miami, they will be in good shape.

Mavs in 7 is my prediction as long as the ref screw job which happened in the 2006 Mavs-Heat series doesn't repeat itself. Dirk will be the finals MVP.

Game one is just starting. Let's see how the Mavs do. Come on Nowitzki, Barrera, Stoyakovic, Kidd and Marion.

The announcers and broadcast team of NBC is TOTALLY J sniffing literally cheering for the Heat and moaning calls for the Mavs. I was afraid of this. The Mavs take a 1 point lead into the 2nd quarter. The fix is in. The J sniffing DWF are gonna get the Obrien handed to that narccisist they blasphemously call K*** J****. I won't even write it about that punk.

At this point even the announcers are picking up on the phantom calls on the Mavs. Nearly every call made on the Mavs that has been shown on replay has been wrong. That's why basketball is a joke. I can see an official making a mistake once in awhile, but not nearly every call.

And that only call that goes the Mavs way is called against Mike Miller - big surprise. The replay is killing these refs. I

After seeing tonights game not sure I'll be watching this series too closely. It seems clear to me that the same pundits who criticized the Heat months ago are now gushing over Bron Bron and Wade. Good luck Dirk you will need it. Not sure how you can stop Lebron when he just pushed people out of the way on his way to the basket. The NBA has an overall weak product, so if the Mavs start losing games, I will have no problem switching away and watching Swamp People.

Let's be honest about a few things.. Lebron has improved his jumper by a significant margin. Does anyone disagree?

In the 4th quarter, what I warned about in a previous post came to pass.. Miami's athletes made (old) Dallas look SILLY. Miami was showing PRECISION and TEAMWORK, while Dallas was not...

I think that Dallas has nothing to be really ashamed of with that showing. They hung in their pretty close despite some weird calls, in an away game against a team clearly favored by the refs.

Dallas relies on Nowitzki too much in my opinion. Peja with no points at all? They need to use that guy more, or give him more looks.

Dallas avoided being blown out and was competitive, which shows they are not totally outclassed and can hang. Hopefully they can steal game 2, but I think the NBA is determined to give this thing to the Heat.

This isn't just because I'm pro-White and want Nowitzki to get a ring. I really do think the NBA has a vested interest in earning revenue for it's sh*tty product by proclaiming Lebron as the new Kobe and plaster his champion face everywhere, etc.

Dirk is an all-time great player but he and other elite White players just don't count in the ghetto because the ghetto is what makes the NBA popular.

The NBA wants to make its money by making the yokels both White and Black spend their money on whatever hypejob they're pushing at the moment.

Like I said before Dallas needs to steal one game in Miami. If they win next game, they go back for 3 in Dallas and in good shape. A Dallas player needs to contain LeBrown, over series over.

LeBrown is good and even great, remember he has been in the NBA for 8 years. We have give credit where credit is due. I believe he has proven to be more than a hypejob. He can play. One of Dallas players needs to step and take the pressure off of Dirk.

While watching the end of the game. I think Wade made a great dunk off a mid court pass. That was a great play. The camera flashed to the crowd. A big fat white guy in the rang of 300 lbs yelled like he won the lottery. God, for a White to so emotionally invested in a negro's play is beyond pathetic.

As usual, it's LONE STAR time for Dirk.

Dallas did a great job staying with the Heat, even going up 51-43 early in the 3rd period. Their defense simply broke down in the last 4 minutes, and that way Marion and Chandler allowed James to score that emphatic and-ONE Jam was absolutely pathetic. Miami made many clutch baskets though, thanks to great pin point passing.

James and Wade proved too much with their 3-point shooting.

The Dallas bench needs to step up, especially Peja and Barea (1-8 FG's). Stevenson is absolutely useless, his defense is worse than given credit for, and Terry... same old, same old. Dirk himself had some defensive miscues.

I think it will be tough for Dallas to "step-up" defensively. If you get whistled for stand still defense what are you suppose to do? The and-ONE jam by Lebrown is a great example. You can't play defense any more evasively than that and the result is you still get whistled. Barrera gets bumped every time he touches the ball. Lebrown and Wade are allowed to use their off hand to shove defenders away like Barrera. Peja is simply another white that isn't allowed to play defense. If he attempts to play defense or even if he doesn't the whistle will blow. I'm afraid the trend was set last night. I've seen this before. Once the calls are made this way they don't change until the series ends.

Give Lebrown and Wade credit? What for? I didn't see anything spectacular. Lebrown hit some threes, but it's not like he shot the lights out. I can hit free throws just as easily as these guys. Was it the worst Ref job I've seen? No. But was it enough to effect how the game is played and the outcome? Yes. I'll reserve my worshiping for something more worthy. Edited by: Kaptain

I would not consider the Miami offense to be "overly explosive" (for instance, in Game 1, Chris Bosh shot 5-18 from the field..), but Miami's "D" is very legit.

The disruptiveness coming from Wade and Lebron, their steals, blocks, and otherwise altering shots, isn't some kind of manufactured conspiracy. And, they've been doing it for their entire careers. Why deny this?

In a previous post, I mentioned that I don't consider Shawn Marion or Tyson Chandler to be in their prime right now, and, Jason Terry, despite starting the postseason on fire, has been trending toward irrelevance in several games now. Dallas is old, and, in many ways, they were damn lucky to beat OKC in 5 games.. OKC was exposing Dallas' age, but poor shot-selection and immaturity did them in, not to mention their huge collapse in Game 4, an absolutely pivotal blow.

Lebron had a Finals appearance with the Cavs, but didn't get a ring.. Why not? Is it so hard to believe that a 26 year-old Lebron, combined with Wade, is now ready for the big stage?

Dallas needs to play defense. Kidd and Terry gave Wade wide open shots time and time again. There were so worried about getting beat to the hole that they gave them 5 feet of room to shoot. I could hit those jump shots. They have to fight and get tough. Dirk also needs help and no one else stepped up to the position. Hoping Thursday Nights Game goes better.

I was afraid this would be a tough series for the Mavs from the beginning. Now with Dirk's injured finger things just got harder. His shooting touch will be off for the rest of the series. The Mavs need some serious adjustments if they want to take this.

They might as well let Lebron have a loaded pistol out there. He could dribble around shooting people, and never get called for it! Hell, he dont even have to dribble. Its not like there is any such thing as traveling anymore. Just tuck it under like a running back, and go hard to the rack! What a bad joke the NBA has become. I doubt the Mavs will win one game. There can be no doubt that they are not just playing the Heat, but the refs, and themedia as well.

Can Dallas win? Sure, but....they will have to shoot exceptionally well, and play defense without getting called for cheap fouls (which, unfortunately, is going to happen regardless, since tptb clearly and overtly want the Heat to win). They will also have to contend with "defending" guys like LeBron and Wade who are literally permitted to run to the basket (without dribbling whatsover). It's hard to compete when they don't even pretend to enforce the rules.

Nowitski has to step it up, and play just as aggressively as he did in the previous two series. That was the first time I'd ever seen him take it strongly to the basket and slam it home. Against the Heat in game 1, however, he was back to his characterically white, passive self. Imagine what it would do for his confidence, and how it would effect LeBron's bloated self-esteem, if Dirk dunked the ball powerfully over him. For once, a white slam would hit a black player in the head. Now, that would be refreshing!

If Miami wins it all, the message will be loud and clear; just put together media-created "superstars" on a "team" and no one will be able to beat them. How hard can Miami be to defend, when almost all their points come from three players? Somehow, though, these teams can't seem to figure it out, just like NFL defenses, despite allegedly studying hours and hours of film, can't seem to figure a way to stop the Marshall Faulks, Priest Holmes' and Ray Rices of the world from slipping out of the backfield for obvious screen passes.

The DWFs hava already given Dirk a new disparging nickname; Dirk Noringski. Greenie and Golic made sure to notify us of that. If Dallas somehow wins, they will have beaten herculean odds, and pissed off nearly every white jock sniffer and black fan in the country.

What are you talking about? Assembling multiple good players and having them play as a TEAM is usually a good strategy to contend for titles. What about the recent Celtics' championships with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce?

Besides, look at how much better Lebron and Wade are compared to "MVP" D-Rose and static shooter Kevin Durant.. they are the hypejobs! And, what does this example also show? THAT the NBA ISN'T full of Lebrons and Wades. The league is, indeed, MOSTLY comprised of selfish affletes, but situations will rarely be 100% in one direction. A few blacks showing teamwork and good shooting (minus Bosh..) shouldn't exactly emasculate us. That's absurd, and Dallas is far from a "White" team.

Over the years, MANY teams have given a TON of money to at least two "superstars" and haven't even come close to contending for a Championship. One small example.. what about the Amare/Carmelo "combo" that got swept in the first round of this year's playoffs? There are literally a bunch of examples, and these following examples have their own relevance IMO.. The Clippers' were spending a ton of money on guys like Baron Davis and Camby.. the Wizards' were spending a ton of money on Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and so on. What happened? Most of those teams were atrocious. What about the recent failures of the Orlando Magic?
