Johnny Manziel is a superb dual threat QB from Kerrville TX. Last year as a junior, he was the San Antonio Express News Player of the Year. As a junior, Manziel accounted for 54 TDs (19 passing, 33 rushing, and 2 receiving)and 1,529 rushing yds and 2,782 passing yds. So how is his senior year going? He is on track to pass last years eye popping numbers. After 6 games, Manziel leads all of South Texas (which includes the Houston and San Antonio metro areas) in passing yds, TD passes, and is in the top 15 in rushing yds.

Kerrville is a small hill country town and the high school plays in the 4A classification, yet they routinely whip up on the 5A programs in the San Antonio area.

At 6-1, 190 lbs with 4.5 speed, Manziel has been recruited by a few out of state schools and committed to Oregon over the summer. Texas A&M offered in August, so Manziel accepted to play closer to home. The Aggies got a good one and I look forward to seeing him play in college.

Here's an article about him showing up one of the top RB recruits in the country: http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/high_school_football/tivys_titan_tops_man_of_steele_102677664.html

The Texas High School playoffs are underway and Manziel is dominating so far with a big first round win. Next game is against three time defending state champs Lake Travis. There will be white speed all over the field for that one.

Manziel's eye popping numbers for the year are:
Passing: 207 of 311 (67%), 3258 yds, 42 TD passes, and 4 INT
Rushing: 147 att for 1542 yds (10.49 ypc), and 28 TDs.

With a deep run in the playoffs, he could pass for over 4,000 yds and rush for over 2,000 yds.Edited by: SteveB

Manziel's season came to an end against Lake Travis, the best football program in the state for the past 4 years. It was a shootout among the two best QBs in the state with Michael Brewer (Texas Tech recruit) getting the win. Talk about offense, check out the numbers of the two QBs:

Johnny Manziel - 352 passing yds, 140 rushing yds, 6 TDs (passing & rushing)
Michael Brewer - 248 passing yds, 192 rushing yds, 5 TDs (passing & rushing)

Manziel finishes the season with 3609 passing yds, 45 TDs, 5 Int, 1674 rushing yds, 30 rushing TDs.

In Texas, this year has been the year of the white dual threat QB with a dozen or so dominating both the passing and rushing stats in the state.

I'm thinking he made a good choice, as Oregon of course is enamoured with black QB's.

It's probably better for Manziel and his family that he goes to A&M, but wouldn't be awesome to see him run the Oregon blur offense? It would make everyone forget all about Dennis Dixon, Jeremiah Masoli, and Darron Thomas.
