He was a very good writer. His last years were difficult. We shouldn't wonder why so many gifted wordsmiths keep quiet about certain subjects. People earning their living by the pen had better not stray too far off the reservation unless they have another source of income. At one time his columns appeared in many newspapers. His promisng career went downhill after he wrote critically of the self-chosen. Sam Francis is another who suffered the same fate.

Joe Sobran influenced my thinking quite a bit. He was an excellent writer, and one of the few with the integrity to challenge the taboos on race and zionism set by William F. Buckley and his comradesafter they commandeered post-WWII conservatism.

I knew he had been in bad health for several years. He was just 63 or 64 when he passed. Joe Sobran will be missed by a lot of thoughtful Americans. RIP

I was somewhat apolitical in my younger years (a nice way to say I was clueless). I can't remember when I first noticed Sobran, but after reading him I always looked forward to his column. What he said was always logical and rang true for me. His writing helped shape my view of the world while at the same time showing me things I already knew but hadn't been able to articulate within myself.

If I could have met him I would have just shook his hand and said "Good job."

I liked Sobran too. He was one of those Irish Catholic guys that I could always relate to. I really like reading his stuff. He was purged by the Buckley faction from conservative writing and it has been downhill ever since. RIP Joe!!!!!

My favorite columnist by far;areal philosopher and man of letters.And unlike Buckley, Joe Sobran had a sense of the organicaspects of the nation andthe locality.He was a man of high culture with great breadth and depth of knowledge. In oneessay, he could draw upon Aristotle, Edmund Burke, Babe Ruth, and Jesus Christ.He was alwayssympathetic to the cause of white people, even if he did become more of a pure libertarian in his last years. One phrase from one of his pieces stands out in my memory;"the myth of the equal capacities of the races". There he was, in the open with it.

Not long after, there he wasn't.

Pretty much banished from the MSM.

Was he not of Eastern European heritage. My recollection tells me he was of Ukranian stock.

But nonetheless a great writer and thinker, on par with Buchanan and Reese as a conservative.

One of the great things of being a poster on CF is that I always learn, laugh and get pissed, which is good.

I was on TownHall.com and Ann Coulter has a great piece on Sobran where he is lauded, its quite good and funny. I had no idea of his man and his work. I can thank CF for once again expanding my mind and thought.
