Jayson Werth, who has been wrongly maligned, hit his 25th HR yesterday.

He's hit a bunch of doubles this year - so his slugging % is actually higher than last year.

The Cardinals were doing fine until after their August series sweep of Cincinnati (the one with the big fracas). Since then, they've slowly dropped out of contention for the NL-Central Division title. Now they are only 4 games away from being eliminated from the Wild Card race. In other words, no post season for the Cards this year.

I am glad, they don't deserve to be in the postseason this year after how they dumped Luddy and made some other very questionable decisions. What a horrible move that was to get rid of him to bring in Jake Westbrook when that team needed offense more than anything. Jay is a decent young role player, but he doesn't really have enough pop to replace Luddy though and he has been dropping like a rock since he started getting playing time almost everyday. The other guy who has taken most of the other outfield bats, Randy Winn, is basically worthless at this stage in his career and so is Pedro Feliz who the Cardinals brought in to play third. Descalso who can also play some third, needs to be getting the majority of the playing time there from here on out. Either him or Greene should,who both are young and have some upside. The Cardinals finally dropped beaner Lopez, but it is too little too late as he was allowed to stink it up both in the field and at the plate for for months while still getting lots of playing time.

On Mike and Mike, they did their whining (again) about Tampa's poor attendance... the media has beat this to death, and it wreaks of desperation.

Sure, with Reid Brignac and a few other (newer) Whites seeing action, the team may be a little Whiter, but I could care less if they have poor attendance. Maybe we aren't "sheep" - afterall...

Posey's the real deal. The ESPN media-types are already leaning towards Heyward (surprise!), but Posey's put up fantastic numbers in essentially half a season. Plus, he's a great defender and game-caller behind the plate, a premium defensive position. I think he definitely deserves it, and would have posted some crooked numbers if he had been in the bigs for an entire season!

As a former backstop myself, I think his gear is really cool, by the way.

Yahoo! Sports tells us today that Aroldis Chapman's purported 105 mph pitch yesterday "overshadowed" Tim Lincecum's dynamite win for the Giants in their NL West race.

One meaningless pitch by a reliever-in a game where a lot of relievers throw high 90s gas and some touch 100-is supposed to be more noteworthy than a dominant performance by one of the game's best starters?

It's more over the top negrophilliac worship. Radar timing is very inaccurate and I doubt as if that's the only time a pitch has been clocked at that speed. The Yahoo article mentions Walter Johnson and Bob Feller in the article as if this guy was faster. Uh they didn't even have radar when those guys were pitching. The pitch was a ball by the way. They have been pimping this guy for a while. Yet he's still coming out of the bullpen at mop-up time. Seems if you mention a guy with Johnson, Feller, and Ryan, he should be more then a scrub.

You're telling me, I want to know if the Yankees are going to get either the division or the Wild Card. I'm a bit leery if they have to play Texas in the first round, they got swept in the last series down there. But Minnesota's a good team, too bad about Morneau, though, he's a real good one. It comes down to the wire tomorrow

The 2010 Fielding Bible Awards have been released and 6 of the 9 awards go to White athletes. Great job by Daric Barton (1B), Chase Utley (2B), Evan Longoria (3B), Troy Tulowitzki (SS), Brett Gardner (LF) and Mark Buehrle (P) in taking home the honors.

I'm happy for all the white winners of the Gold Glove, but I think advanced defensive metrics shows that a bunch of the awards are more for popularity and reputation, and not based on performance in a particular year.

Derek Jeter this year is a perfect case in point.

Couldn't agree more. Based on UZR Brett Gardner was the best defensive player in all of baseball at any position. Of course, Carl Crawford took home the gold glove.

And now the NL gold Gloves.

Only three White winners in P Bronson Arroyo, 3B Scott Rolen (his eighth), and SS Troy Tulowitzki (a long overdue first).

Brandon Philips you could argue was iffy, but Chase Utley was injured for long stretches at a time. Tulowitzki should have had a GG before this. Good to see a White shortstop win one, as it's quickly becoming a "taboo" position, to be played by blacks and latinos only.

Also of note are the UZR/150 ratings for the NL. You'll notice a lot of good White ballplayers potentially got snubbed:
