2010 has been the worst season so far!

To name a few things that are driving me crazy. Most of our guys are struggling, hurt, or just getting slower. Very frustrating. Here are a few examples:

Pickering running 10.40's all season long not making the UK Squad for the Euro Champs.

Cerutti getting hurt today in Germany after looking good.

Wariner getting hurt today at the US Champs and not finishing his race.

Ramil Guliyev is injured and may be out for the season.

Osovnikar is over the hill.

Hession looks ok but isn't doubling like he used to.

Wissman looks like crap.

All the german sprinters are stuck in neutral or reverse. Even Robert Herring who looked like a prodigy last season is going backwards.

Christophe Lemaitre is the one bright spot other than some 400 meters guys and the long jumpers. It's really sad to see so many guys looking average or below average heading into the European Championships. I wonder what kind of times were going to see. Hoping for better things to come in the last couple of months of summer.

I'm wondering if Floyd Landis has anything to do with it. After he came clean on being a dope cheat, he said he was gonna give WADA the info they needed to root out dopers, and give intel on the tricks the Euros have been using to pass tests.

Judging by their times, I'm guessing he has everyone on both sides of the Atlantic, shook. With the exception of the Big Three, Dix, Chambers, and Lemaitre, it seems like everyone will be average or below average for a while.

more bad news this season - Jeremy Wariner dnf (did not finish) at US Nationals today. I assume he was hurt, or so discouraged that he dropped out. Does anyone have further info?

Landis' threats have nothing to do with this season's disappointing results. He doesn't know anything about who is doing what in track.
It's an off year with no WC and no OG. So a lot less motivation for all athletes.

Must be Bad Karma or just a coincidence.

Actually, white athletes have been doing well so far this year. Unfortunately, something has to give, and white sprinters seem to be taking the fall. Forgive me, I can be quite superstitious.

Wariner just had a minor pull in his muscle. He will be racing again in two weeks time. He didn't want to risk a major injury and he was leading at the time he dropped out. Jeremy is having a nice season so far and said in the post race interview that he was going to run in the 44's today until he got hurt. I believe he would have for sure.

At least we've had more encouraging American high school sprinters than I can remember in a very long time. By a long shot too. Just statistically a few of these kids will pan out in college. That has me considerably more excited than European talent, even if I do have to wait a few years.

Adding to the woes:
Brady Gehret got violently ill and had to miss the New Balance Nationals for high school.
Laura Roesler only finished (a very close) second in the juniors at the USTAF yesterday, owing to the fact that she ran the entire race out in the second lane. Even so, she was easily running down the leader at the end. Maybe this will teach her something about tactics. She ran 15 meters longer than the winner (finishing in a virtual tie).
Johan Rogestedt--(the young Swedish 800 phenom) has missed the entire outdoor season with Achilles problems.
Allan Webb has remained hurt. I'm not sure why Ritzenheim disappeared.
Borlee was on the verge of a great breakthrough when a camera boom nearly decapitated him.

On the plus side of the ledger--Gehret, Farmer, Roesler, and Verbizcas all showed great promise. Solinsky set a US record and put himself in the same category as the top Kenyans with his time. Young 800 runners, Robby Andrews, Cas Loxsom, Chris Fitzsimons, and Andrew Wheating have all shown considerable promise.

So basically, it's looked better on the junior level than the senior.

As for the Floyd Landis stuff, I think a lot of runners are laying off the dope this year because there are no major championships. Note how often Usain Bolt has said he won't break any records this year, but will next year. Why's that, Usain? Probably because he doesn't want to risk getting caught this year, so he's not going to start roiding up again until 2011.

I agree it's become a good year. Congrats on your new job Colonel_Reb. Between that and Lemaitre, that is great news. Before you know it, we will be watching football again too.

Yes I have noticed this in previous non major years. Times are more "normal" because of the this reason(I suspect). Also another reason is because many athletes get bonuses to break records at major meets.

Thanks white lightning! Yep, football season is right around the corner. I'm really excited about Christophe's sprinting future. He's already delivering shock and awe, and will no doubt increase the payload exponentially in the future!
