This kid rushed for 1,825 yards on 190 carries (9.61ypc) with a long run of 72 yards, playing TAILBACK. I note that his CasteRivals profile lists him at fullback, I wonder why that could be??
And it's not like he plays on some lousy 2a school. Hutchinson High is a powerhouse in Kansas, this year's 5A state champ. I note that they dismantled Rockhurst, a perennial KC area champion (although they're all white, too), and took out an outstanding Gardner-Edgerton squad in the championship game(well, they're mostly all white, too)
So here we have an outstanding tailback, at a powerhouse high school program, with superlative numbers, and he's being recruited as a (very small) fullback. The caste system in action!

After searching around the net a bit, it turns out he's going to Kansas. It looks like the Jayhawks have the whitest backfield this side of Montana. This article I pasted makes note of the fact, that for some reason (wink wink) he wasn't recruited much in spite of all of the facts:

Hutchinson High senior Josh Smith, one of the most prolific running backs in Kansas during the past four years, has decided to play football at Kansas University, his coach, Randy Dreiling, told Rivals.com Wednesday night.

Smith, 5-foot-10, 215 pounds, leaves Hutch as the school's all-time leader in yards (4,839) and touchdowns (87). During 2009, he ran for 1,935 yards and scored 34 TDs.
Despite his three-star rating, 4.5-second 40-yard dash speed and the fact that he starred at a school that has won six consecutive state championships, Smith drew little interest during the recruiting process. Navy was the only school to offer him a scholarship, and Wisconsin, where Smith visited last week, decided to go a different route.

Dreiling told Rivals that Smith had the potential to contribute on special teams right away and indicated that he would not be surprised to see the back factor into the Jayhawks' offense quickly.

"He'll contribute in so many ways it will be incredible,"Â￾ Dreiling told the site.

Smith's addition brought KU coach Turner Gill's first recruiting class up to 19 players. Smith became the third running back in KU's Class of 2010.

Nice find. I did a little internet "Googling" on this kid. He has 4 state championship rings. Hutchinson went undefeated (13-0) in three of those 4 years & had a total record of 50-2 during Josh Smith's years. AWESOME!!!! Hopefully he gets his DESERVED opportunity to succeed as a Jayhawk!!!Edited by: Doc Holliday

I think a black coach will face much less pressure than a White coach would from the Caste masters for starting White RB's. Good luck to both!

Too bad Turner Gill didn't go after Nile Knapp. I have not seen Smith's highlights, but I doubt he's as good as COMPLETE PHENOM Nile "Barry Sanders" Knapp. I'm disgusted by the treatment of Knapp more than anything else I've seen in the last 10 years (right about when I started my journey toward racial awareness in sports)...Yes, even the King/Lakers officiating travesty in 2002!

Gill didn't go after Smith, either. He wasn't offered a scholarship. He's being forced to walk-on. No doubt he'll be ordered to reach 250lbs before ever seeing the field.
Here are his highlights.
And here is a picture of him making the jump in the second play of the video:

In my opinion, he's like a much stronger version of Michael Dyer (who Scout stupidly rated as the #1RB in the country). In fact, I don't see why Smith couldn't play in the NFL next season. He's larger and faster than starting tailbacks like Maurice Jones-Drew. And his moves are good enough for his mass-speed combination. Although I don't think that would be a very good idea, it ought to make everyone consider that the runningbacks in the NFL just aren't very good. It's an overrated position with universally overrated players that should never make more than league minimum, and then be replaced by any one of a hundred equal replacements once they get injured or demand more money (This is specific to the NFL. An extremely talented tailback can have great value for a HS or College team that has an offense tailored around a single-back.)
Watch his highlights and decide for yourself. IMO, he should've kept his commitment to Air Force. He will never be a star running back for Turner Gill.

I beleive he did receive a scholarship, and in fact will be a running back as Kansas does not use a traditional full back.

With Bourbon receiving a scholarship to KU, I would say Smith has a slim chance of ever seeing the field as a RB. I would be shocked if KU let two talented white running backs play the same position, its a taboo. Smith's best bet would be to either switch positions or transfer somewhere else where they promise to play him as a runningback. I know it's a pessimistic outlook, but I think that's how this situation will pan out

Nope.
Unless something new has happened in the last few weeks, Gill does not think he's black enough to deserve a scholarship.
