Redick 5-9, 5-7 3-pts-15 total pts, 3 rebs, 4 ast, 1 stl, 0 TO. Redick outplayed Pietrus, although Pietrus played pretty well too. Go J.J! The Magic will need you to bring it- with Lee out for now.
Yep, he did just that!

While the loss of Lee is definitely a blow for the Magic, it means more playing time and opportunities for JJ Redick. This is definitely a great opportunity for Redick to raise his game to another level.

I agree. I believe Redick has the ability to become a good third leading scorer for the Magic if they would let him average 30 minutes a game. He could become a very "efficient" player and has even become a solid defensive player this year. On another team that needs a go-to scorer best case scenario he could develop into a Michael Redd type- if he gains all his confidence and his team believed in him.

I doubt Redick will average more than 25 minutes next season with Lee there- unless he goes absolutely buck wild and helps carry the Magic to the Finals this playoffs.

Very happy for JJ Redick. With the unfortunate injury to Lee, Redick should get signifigant time the rest of these playoffs if he continues to perform like he did last night. The circumstances of life in the NBA for the white American guard may finally be breaking JJ's way. I hope he takes advantage of it and maybe hit the game winning shot one night. Hopefully Adam Morrison will get his break someday too.

Redick's major weakness are his lack of long, ape-like arms that the majority of the NBA possesses.

The average NBA player has a wingspan that is 3-5 inches greater than their height.

Redick has a wingspan of 6-3 at his height of 6-5. I think this hurts him a little bit on defense and scoring in traffic.

Redick I think might have a slightly easier time against the Cavs. He had a tough task going up against Ray Allen, now he will go up against either Delonte West, or Mo Williams. Either way, I expect Redick to up some really decent numbers against the Cavs.

If Redick manages to help the Cavs to the NBA finals, I doubt not many will be laughing at this dude anymore. He's been definitely a huge part of Orlando's success right now.

So far, it's been the bench for Redick. I guess the issue has to be both offense and defense now. Defensively, he would find hard to match-up against either Mo Williams or Delonte West. Offensively, he would be gravely challenged by the two mentioned, and even by Lebron James. There seems to be no room for a pure shooter like Redick these days.

Redick is actually solid on both ends, but what can one do when the trust and confidence is gravely missing?

Actually he played great in garbage minutes tonight. Made a 3 pointer and guarded Kobe extremely well. Hopefully he will see better time in game two.

Jeff Van Gundy complimented Redick as well for being always ready to play. Mark Jackson gave him a back handed compliment of accepting his role well. Whatever! He should go elsewhere as soon as his contract runs out.

Wow, congratulations guest301 on your new status as a caste football hall of famer!

Thanks whiteathlete33. It's a honor to make it this far at CF and I am in some very good company now. Reb I think has 9000 posts or close to it, he should have his own wing in the Caste Football Hall of Fame. I heard he's been lobbying for it behind the scenes.

Mark Jackson? is it possible to be slower than Mark Jackson? that guy was slow, like "honorary old white guy at the YMCA" slow.

not known as a defender either. come to think of it, i don't think he had much of a 3 pt. shot either.

so why is that guy talking sh*t about JJ Reddick? Reddick can shoot and hustles. lots of teams could use him effectively. he is a good shooter off the bench. great sixth man. hopefully he goes to a team that needs and wants him.

Redick got alot of playing time in Game 2 and he was on the court for large parts of the 4th and into the overtime period. I hope that continues as the Magic play at home tonight. Even when JJ Redick's shot is not falling, his prescence seems to draw out the Lakers defence as they attempt to guard the tremendous array of perimeter players the Magic have.

over the course of the Magic-Celtics series, it was obvious that Redick was starting to see what kind of a player he was going to be in the NBa. not surprisingly, this was in large part because of his finally getting significant minutes and being able to play through mistakes. it might surprise a lot of people, however, that he was doing a GREAT job of playing defense, reminding anyone who can put aside race-based comparisons of another long-time NBA player who could knock down the open 3-pointer and play tough defense ... Bruce Bowen.

that's right, Redick was playing TERRIFIC defense. going up against one of the best two guards in the NBA, Ray Allen, the supposedly "horrid" defense of Redick made Ray Allen earn every bucket and shoot a terrible percentage in all but one game.

more importantly, when Redick was on the floor with Allen, when Redick out-played Allen in the all-important plus-minus stat, the Magic won. when the former All-Star (and so forth) Allen managed to out-play the ever-ridiculed and despised Redick, the Celtics won. guess who got the best in the head to head and whose team won the series? you guessed it. Redick.

the notion that Redick can't play defense is ludicrous. i'll let the numbers speak for themselves, with the plus-minus stat emboldened:

Game 1 Ray Allen: 40:25; fg2-12; 3-pt 1-7; -15; 1 to; 9 pts.
J.J. Redick: 29:12; fg 3-5; 3-pt 2-4; -7; 0 to; 12 pts. Magic win.

Game 2 Ray Allen: 40:44; fg7-15; 3-pt 2-7; +19; 1 to;22 pts.
J.J. Redick: 24:46; fg 5-8; 3-pt 4-6; -11; 0 to;15 pts. Celtics win.

Game 3 Ray Allen: 32:41; fg3-13; 3-pt 0-5; -12;2 to;8 pts.
J.J. Redick: 27:27; fg 1-5; 3-pt 1-2; +20;2 to;5 pts. Magic win.

Game 4 Ray Allen: 46:55; fg6-13; 3-pt 0-5; +3;2 to;12 pts.
J.J. Redick: 23:38; fg 1-7; 3-pt 0-5; -4; 0 to (game-high 7 assists!); 2 pts. Celtics win.

Game 5 Ray Allen: 32:28; fg3-11; 3-pt 2-5; +9;4 to;13 pts.
J.J. Redick: 28:58; fg 1-6; 3-pt 1-4; 0; 0 to;3 pts. Celtics win.

Game 6 Ray Allen: 41:50; fg2-11; 3-pt 0-7; -8;4 to;5 pts.
J.J. Redick: 20:24; fg 0-7; 3-pt 0-2; +2;0 to; 2 pts. Magic win.

Game 7 Ray Allen: 41:27; fg9-18; 3-pt 3-6; -16;1 to;23 pts.
J.J. Redick: 24:23; fg 2-3; 3-pt 1-2; +8;0 to;5 pts. Magic win.

as you can see, whoever won the plus-minus in this match-up accurately predicted the winner of every single contest. every one!

while lazy or incompetent "analysts"are only capableof looking at who scored more points to see who won a given match-up, the truth is much more comprehensive than that. why? because there's a lot more to basketball than how many points an individual player scores.

for example, Allen was an integral part of the Celtics offensive game plan, as his high number of shots illustrates. meanwhile, Redick was only an afterthought in his team's offense, often taking a low-percentage shot at the end of the shot clock. (and this doesn't even factor in free throw attempts, and the favoritism a "star" gets over a designated role player.) and while Redick didn't shootas well asone would expect him to, his defense on Allen forced the much more highly regarded player to shoot very poorly, as well. and this killed the Celtics!

in fact, in the 7 contests, Allen only shot like his usual self in two games. not bad defending by Redick for a so-called "terrible defender," especially consideringthe Reggie Miller-type offense Boston was running to try and free Allen up for shots. (for those who don't know, Reggie Miller was a great shooter, but very slow, and usuallyhad to getopenby running off of two, three, and four screens).

so the next time you hear some dumbass talk about Redick as a defensive liability, just remember that he out-played Ray Allen for a Conference Championship.

thanks for the kind words, Aragorn.

i don't know if anyone caught the Magic-Lakers game last night, but Redick came in and played 9 minutes(guarding Kobe Bryant) in the first half and provided a BIG spark for Orlando that helped them take a nice lead into halftime. in one sequence Redick blocked Bryant's shot (which he wasn't credited for in the stat sheet) on one end, came down and made a sweet pump fake to get open and force another defender tofly at him to prevent the open jumper, thenmade aperfectassistto Gortat for a thunderous dunk. it was beautiful basketball.

later on, he got the ball on a fast break and slipped on a wet spot as he was going up to score (i think he actually got away with a travel), but he had the presence of mind to pass it over his shoulder to a trailing teammate for the lay-up rather than throwing up some off balance garbage.

in the second half, he came in and guarded Trevor Ariza who was on fire (he'd scored 11 points without missing a shot early in the 3rd quarter). Redick only allowed Ariza to score one more bucket, and that was on a fast break after Redick had clearly drawn a foul on Bryant while shooting a 3. the foul wasn't called, and Ariza took advantage by scoring on the break. the non-call was so blatant, however, that commentator Mark Jackson was talking about how bad it was for several minutes.

it's "strange" that he's playing so well, yet getting so few minutes.

as an aside, Hedo Turkoglu has been playing excellent basketball. it wouldn't be wrong to say that he's been the best basketball player for the Magic in the last two series, and maybe the whole playoffs.

Hedo has been clutch thats for sure. Redick made a nice pass to Gortat and he finished with authority!! That was one of my favorite plays of the game. I feel the Magic shopuld try harder to play both Gortat and Howard at the same time, why not one more loss and the season is done. Pull out every trick you have.

Hedo is a free agent after this season and with his stellar play he is set to make millions for somebody. He is a lugit point forward and there are not too many of those.

Wishful thinking, most likely, but hailing from Wisconsin, I would love to see Turkoglu in a Bucks jersey. I think he'd fit in nicely with our already fairly white team. Journeymen such as Andrew Bogut and Luke Ridnour, and the upstart Joe Alexander would complement a veteran like Hedo nicely, I think. Granted, Milwaukee doesn't seem to be a top choice for most profile players. Can't blame them, in honesty.

I like Redick's game better than Courtney Lee's. The article missed on one point- Redick averaged more points per shot than Courtney Lee last season. I believe Redick averaged more points per shot than Lee in the playoffs as well (despite being below 40% from the field) b/c of his high rate of 3 balls and solid rate of drawing fouls per attempt.

Redick had 12 points tonight on 10 shots, along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists and only 1 turnover. I think he'll be a key player off the bench as a 6th or 7th man for the Magic all season. He is shedding the "bust" label right before fan's eyes. How you can be mentioned as a huge "bust" as barely a lottery pick, when you are backing up Vince Carter (and playing almost as much as him) and playing almost as well as Vince is beyond me. He didn't even get to play much till last year and he did pretty well and this year he's looked great in the 1st two games. Keep it up J.J!

Redick should be a star.  He is the best shooter in the league. Anyone who watched him in college knows that.

The way Redick played tonight (27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) brought good memories of Jeff Hornacek. He was the last of the solid and consistent white shooting guards. If Redick can display more games like this, he could reach Hornacek's standards.
