Hatton continues to get caught with that check left hook. He tries to jump in with hooks too often. His most effective punches in this fight and others I've noticed is when he leads with a jab or a straight right hand - then hooking to the body.

I thought he looked good considering he was coming back from a KO loss. He was in there with a tough customer in Lazcano. Versus commentators were a effing joke. Suggesting after 1 defeat he's a washed up has been. Wally Matthews is just a regular caste reporter. I used to like him but not now. Hatton needs to stay away from left hookers as he was wideopen to that punch all night and paid the price a few times.
Wally Matthews was a reporter for the New York Newsday and I swear he hates boxing. He always used to rag on Tyson(back when Tyson was a demi-god), almost every column from him was some bitter rant. He took that style to the commentators booth. Edited by: white is right

I scored it 117 - 111 for Hatton.

Like Kaptain said - Hatton is still wide open for left hooks.Hatton got buzzed pretty good from a flush left by Lazcano when he leaped in.

At least Ricky cleared his head and fought on after getting rocked instead of faking that he got hit with a low blow to buy time like a certain Mr.Hopkins.

I agree. It was the same old Hatton. I saw the Hatton-Tszyu fight again on ESPN Classic recently, and it was pretty much the same thing. People remember that fight being better than it really was. Hatton is a very good fighter, but his fights- at least the several that I've seen- have never been particularly pleasing to the eye.

Hatton fought ok against Lazcano but here are three tips of advice in oder to continue his career especially against 1st tier fighters and Mayweather if that fight ever comes off:

1. Use your jab like it was the only hand you had.

2. Stop lunging in, leaving your right side chin exposed.

3. Stop abusing Guinness and eating fried foods.

It looks like Hatton is rejecting the De La Hoya fight beacuse of the short turnaround and could wait for Pacquiao...

http://www.newsday.com/sports/custom/boxing/ny-sphatton0610, 0,3694431.story

LONDON - British welterweight Ricky Hatton has rejected an approach for a September bout against Oscar De La Hoya.

"It would be too soon, Richard only fought two weeks ago," Ray Hatton, the boxing champion's father and manager, told British Broadcasting Corp. Sport. "Oscar likes to fight in September because of Mexican Independence Day, but Richard is chilling out at the moment."

Hatton beat Juan Lazcano on May 24 to retain his IBO light welterweight title and is not expected to fight again until November.

De La Hoya's scheduled Sept. 20 bout against Floyd Mayweather was canceled after Mayweather retired last week.

However, Hatton is hoping Mayweather will come out of retirement because he wants a chance to avenge a loss last December in a WBC welterweight title match. It was Hatton's first loss in 44 fights.

"Obviously, Richard would have liked to have gone over that ground again because he thinks he never gave it his best shot in the first fight," Ray Hatton said. "And you can never say never with Floyd, maybe if the money was there in 12 months he would change his mind."

Floyd may come out when the money is right but he was ready to make around $20 million with De La Hoya. You never know. Either way, it is unfortunate timing for Ricky

. Once he beat Paulie he will have cleaned out the division for a second time. He very well could be waiting for Pacquiao...

http://www.secondsout.com/UK/news.cfm?ccs=228&cs=24885

Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao challenges David Diaz for his WBC lightweight lightweight title on June 28 but he is already looking ahead and the possibility of facing junior-welterweight king Ricky Hatton

Pacquiao is quoted in Ring Magazine saying :"After Diaz I want to fight Ricky Hatton. That will be a good fight. I'm 150 pounds right now. My sparring partners are always 140 to 150 pounds. It's not a problem for me. And I'm not getting any younger - so why not?"

For either of those fights to come to fruition both Pacquiao and Hatton must come through tough tests. Pacquiao must come through the naturally bigger Diaz and Hatton is scheduled to face the tricky New Yorker Paulie Malignaggi.

This fight would make more sense for Hatton though not more dollars

. Hatton could stay at 140 and be the bigger man and fight a guy that most know will go out slugging and make for an exciting fight. The only problem is that Manny has one of the meanest left hands in boxing. If Hatton watches that left he should KO the #1 or #2 pound for pound fighter (since Floyd is gone) in the world and get some much do credit!

Hatton should either beat Paulie and then fight Manny. He would get KO'd by Oscar or sliced like a tomatoe. He has an excellent chance of beating Manny. However, if he loses to a former "flyweight(108 lbs) that would be an embarrassment.

But I guess all of that money along with getting overly getting drunk on Guiness will dull the embarrassment.

Hatton if I were him is beat Paulie, stop eating fried food/Guiness then fight Manny while watching Manny's left, then retire.

Based on Manny's performance tonight, I have to reconsider my prediction. I think Manny will beat Hatton in a decision or possible late round KO. Hatton has abused his body on Guiness binges and will never get it back. He has ruined his career with alcohol.

The Hatton/Paciquao fight will be Huge. Both will make btwn 15/20 million dollars. If Hatton loses to Manny he will have lost to a former 108 pounder! This is how lack of self discipline catches up.

Manny did seem to carry his power and speed to 135. He is also a lefty, which tends to give Ricky problems.

But Hatton is no Diaz (who is basically a Mexican Arturo Gatti). Ricky in his prime would beat Manny as he would be way too strong.

But is Hatton still in his prime? He didn't look great against Lazcano.

The Malignaggi-Hatton fight will tell a lot.

Hatton would be the naturally bigger fighter. But Manny has been throwing one of the best left hooks in boxing. That is the same punch that has given Hatton fits. This would be very entertaining. But I think I may be getting ahead of myself. I think that Manny will try to clean out the lightweights while Hatton fights Paulie. If Hatton and Pac-Man fight it would be 50/50 in my books.Edited by: mrjohnnynofear

Ricky hatton needs to take the sport more seriously to beat the top guys you cant lounge around in the pub for two months then go and fight the likes of mayweather cotto or manny his level of dedication needs to match his skills otherwise the kosta tyszu fight will be his career peak and he might as well retire rather than lose to people he could beat if he had the sense to chose better lifestyle choices he could of beaten the foul mouthed mayweather if he wouldnt of had his indulgence in unhealthy habits before his training camp he needs to decide what he is a fighter or one of the lads sadly in life you cant burn the candle at both ends.

Just finished the Replay of the Pacman vs Diaz fight. Man, Pacman looked great. I am sure Hatton will agree. If they fight, Pacman will be the favorite regarding the odds. Hatton will have to fight the perfect fight against him to win a decision.

I like and want Hatton to win, but based on their last performances it looks grim for the Hitman. If I were him I would give up drinking and eating fried foods until one day after they fight.

Hatton to win will have to apply constant pressure and nail Pacman to the body. Something he failed to do against PBF. Look at he tape Floyds left side was exposed throughout the fight and for some stupid reason Hatton "never" banged on it! Against Pacman he will need to or I see another Mayweather ending for Hatton.

Well it looks like Hatton vs the Pacman isn't idle speculation. A few years ago I would have said this would be a blowout for Hatton, but after seeing Manny destroy a poor mans version of Hatton, this fight could be a near pickem. Here is the BBC story....
Hatton targeting Pacquiao finale
Ricky Hatton
Hatton has 44 wins from 45 professional fights

Ricky Hatton says he will fight twice more before retiring from the sport.

Hatton will fight Paulie Malignaggi later this year in Las Vegas for the IBO and IBF light-welterweight title.

The Manchester boxer, 29, then plans to end his career against Filipino great Manny Pacquiao or Mexican Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley next year.

"I don't want to go on forever and would have done everything I dreamed off, so two more fights and then I think I'm done," Hatton told BBC Sport.

Hatton confirmed that his fight against American Malignaggi would be in Las Vegas, the scene of his only defeat, against Floyd Mayweather in December.

"I'll fight Paulie Malignaggi in November in Las Vegas again, so I'll be able to take my wonderful fans over there again and if I win that, then it'll be my eighth world title," he said.

A showdown with Pacquiao, who claimed the WBC lightweight title with victory over David Diaz on Saturday, would pit two of the most popular boxers in the sport against each other.

606: DEBATE
Can Hatton defeat Pacquiao?

Both Hatton and Pacquiao have a huge following and the fight, which the 'Hitman' hopes to hold in front of 100,000 fans in Britain, would prove a fitting finale to his career.

"In the New Year I'm hoping to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley Stadium in front of 100,000 people and after that I'll probably retire," added Hatton.

If hatton wants to cement his legacy he should beat malignaggi and then pacquiao like he is intending to do. Then retire its a shame he didnt beat mayweather but such is life he beat tyszu, ben tackie that mexican with the bodyshot and many others if he wins his next two fights i would consider him one of the all time british greats. The fans will always remember that hatton had as much guts as any man who has ever walked in the ring.

Hatton will cement his status as the world's best at 140 with a win over Malignaggi.

I just hope the referee will not be Joe Cortez this time.Edited by: JD1986

This fight against Malignaggi should be interesting. I am curious to see what new techiques Ricky has gained from Mayweather Sr training him. After his last performance against another B level lightweight fighter, he needs something. In that fight Ricky was rocked hard toward the end,and due to ref coming to his rescue, survived and won a lopsided decision.

Anyways, Ricky has alot to show and prove by rolling over the blk acting Malignaggi. I hope he has cleaned up his act, in regards to over eating and drinking between fights. This will cuase his career to come to a premature end.

I have hard time predicting this one. I suspect Hatton is the favorite, but something tells me, he is going to have a difficult time with Paulie. I will predict a decision with Paulie coming on at the end. Hatton will escape again, and retire after this somewhat "gift" decision. I hope that I am wrong though.

The economy is tough across the pond too, but thousands of Hatton fans are still making the trip to Las Vegas for the fight against Malignaggi:

Hatton followers fewer, but still spirited

Boxer's fans smaller in numbers than for Mayweather fight

When he finally climbs into the ring at the Grand Garden Arena, Hatton will be greeted by about 8,000 of his followers. That's a good number of fans but a far cry from a year ago when 30,000 supporters invaded Las Vegas, making the 16,270 tickets a hot commodity.

The poor economy has impacted England, as the British pound, which a year ago was far superior to the American dollar, has lost a lot of value. Ticket sales have been sluggish, and the Grand Garden has been scaled down from full capacity to three-quarters, or about 12,000. The top ticket price is $1,000, with the cheapest seat going for $150.

I am certain and convinced that Hatton will win this fight unless he suddenly has become too old -which I doubt.

Malinaggi is fast and skilled with both his hands and his feet. He has the hand speed to dominate at his weight class. He has close to the type of speed Joe Calzaghe has but he does not dominate. Why?Because Calzaghe is in better shape and he throws more punches. Malinaggi likes to pose and waste his type with boxing movement but does not throw enough. In doing this, he gives his opponents too much time and space to go after him. Calzaghe usually takes the fight away from his opponents. Malinaggi likes to have time and room to wiggle and dance, and he is not comfortable backed up to the ropes fighting an inside fight. Calzaghe is never backed up against the ropes because his opponents are too busy trying to avoid his punches.

Hatton is a busy fighter. He is not always clever about it but he finds his way inside his opponents and stays there. He lost to Mayweather but he was not so far outclassed that he was not able to get up close to him at times. Cortez saved Mayweather from the scrap Hatton wanted. Mayweather beat Hatton because he was able to counter punch/counter rythm Hatton. Malinaggi does not fight like that. Malinaggi is kind of a dumb fighter who does not analyse his opponents and counter their aggression with classy boxing, moreover, he just tries to make his own attack work.

If Hatton can get up and close to Mayweather then he can do the same with Malinaggi knowing he will not face the same counter punching power he faced from Mayweather. Will Malinaggi side-step Hatton's charge and hooks like a matador? I, at least, do not think so. Malinaggi does take a punch very well so I do not expect a knockout.

Hatton will win a 12 round split decision.

I see Malinaggi cut his hair this time and looks more serious. He's taken off those stupid hair gimmicks. He should be more serious this time, as Hatton looks mean, real mean.

Yeah Malinaggi just shaved lines in his head like MC Hammer. He is a very good fighter but he is also a wigger. I hate to say it but it's true. I hope Ricky Hatton takes his head off. The fight starts in about an hour!
