I just want to start a thread for 2019 track season. We will have alot of indoor meets in the
coming months. I'm also excited for the outdoor season starting in Australia right now. I hope
mastermulti can give us an update soon. I really want to see a few Aussies go sub 10. It could make
athletics even more popular in the land own under!

It is early and the times are not great but 4 out of the top 10 60 meter indoor times thus on have been run by white Americans. Blake Smith, Wayne Sharbayashan, Chad Zallow and Zach Jewell. Jewell looks the part of a future Lemaitre. I see Jewell and Australia's Trae Williams as legitimate threats to break the 10 second barrier sooner rather than later. Also Emile Erasmus may have a 9.95 in him this year. People say the USA dosen't have any white depth in the sprints may be mistaken. Now only if John Teeters shows up soon.

according to IAAF website Kevin Krantz, Germany, has run a 6.62 already while Mary Elizabeth Sant opened with a PB (PR) 7.26 to be 3rd in the world after a few years in the wilderness.

Still nothing to report here downunder though

Good news. Kranz is only 20 and ran a 10.24 last summer. He should obliterate that time this summer.

I agree she has digressed in the past few seasons under the coach change. The biggest differences I have noticed were lack of speed stamina in most of her races especially where it is close. She tightens up almost like she is a bit panicked. I also think she is dealing with far too much pressure after her early successes in the sprints.
It is difficult to sprint in the first place imagine carrying loads of pressure in each and every race. Possibly she could use some sports psychology guru in her corner? Maybe I am totally off mark as well it’s not like I am a wiz coach or track brainiac lol. I do however wish her well!
I also would love to see Marybeth Sant continue to overcome the injuries that derailed her at Oregon. She is a flat out burner when healthy.

Devin Quinn of Illinois, Wayne Sherbahn formerly of Indiana Tech, and Blake Smith formerly of SE Missouri, are among the US leaders in the 60m so far this year.
Quinn 6.65, Sherbahn and Smith 6.68.

Filippo Tortu 6.58 in Italy yesterday. I believe that's the fastest time in Europe this season.

Sam Zenner (Vikings' Zach Zenner's brother) won the 60m and 200m at an invitational meet in South Dakota - 6.77 and 21.00.

Wow, that is a new PB for Tortu (beats his 6.62 from Jan 2018) this early. This is going to be a hot outdoor season for him.

With the world championships coming up later this year, maybe Tortu can possibly make the finals of the 100 meters. It will be very hard with
incredible competition but he is capable of it. That would be a great stepping block to winning medals down the road at the world champs and
the olympics. This kid has all of the talent to win a gold medal someday as the worlds fastest man as long as F.Tortu stays healthy and continues
to progress more in the next 4 to 6 years. Age is on his side and he already has that sub 10 which so many sprinters never get.

Julian Reus had his first race indoors since his shoulder surgery. He ran a 6.68 for the win. He hopes to get down to around 6.60 in his next race or two. He looks to be in
good shape considering he couldn't train at the highest level due to his surgery. Hope he can have a big summer as he going to be 31 and doesn't have much time left.

One of his training partners is Luis Brandner and he is only 18. Brandner finihed 3rd in the same race and also has increased his p.b. to 6.72 already! That is the 2nd fastest
under 20 european time in the world. This kid is tall and lean and he was a bronze medalist over 200 meters at the world youth champs. Another young sprinter to keep a
close eye on.

Richard Kilty will return to action raeing indoors in france this weekend. It is his first race since his achilles surgery last year. Good luck to the teaside tornado. It's been a long
tough road back to health but hopefully he is ready to go. Kilty is also older now and his time to try and get that elusive sub 10 is coming to a close. Both Kilty and Reus have been
so close to those sub 10's on several occasions. Bad luck as much as anything as stopped them within an eyelash of a sub 10. They both have been great for the sport and a pleasure
to watch run. Hope they can both acheive their dreams.

Thanks for the updates WL, I truly hope Kilty and Reus do well this year. Kilty coming back off of achilles surgery is a tough road but we all know he is one mentally tough man.

low key warm up meet before tomorrow's main competition - Jack Hale starts the season with 10.23

Thanks for posting this. I have been checking AthleticsAustralia.com every so often but hadn't seen any results yet. All 3 of their young male sprinters have me excited
with their sub 10 potential at an incredibly young age. If 1 or 2 of them can break through that magical barrier then I think athletics popularity is going to sky rocket
in the land down under! Really fast opener for Jack Hale. Hope it was wind legal.

race day proper in ACT: Jack Hale equalled that 10.23 again in rain and with zero wind. Interviewed, he's really learned to speak with the media - not a little kid anymore and says he's yet to taper for the competitive season.
The first women's race for the year was won by Celeste Mucci, the 19 year old heptathlete who went from last year's PB 11.85 (+1.9) to a new PB, 11.60 (o.1) in the rain. That was after 6 long jump attempts not 1/2 hour before.

19 year old Tyler Gunn went 46.09 in rain to win the first 400 of the season - would have been high 45s in dry conditions. Three others in the 46s. Looks good for the first race of the season and it would be good to see a decent Aussie 4x400 team at Doha come Sept/October
