Freshman Dario Horvat continues his fine freshman season with a 10.28 at the PacWest Championships.
I never heard of this guy before this season, but he ran faster than Lemaitre did this weekend!

Dario Horvat broke his Croatian National Record with a time of 10.20 this weekend in LA.
This kid is coming on strong!

He is the biggest surprise of the season. Remember that he is only a freshman although he is a lot older than most guys due to coming from Europe. We need to find some video of this race. Outstanding times. What a breath of fresh air. Now is we can just get Tumi to throw down some fast times soon, Lemaitre may just have a little bit of company for a change. Where is Guliyev? Damn he needs to race soon.

Wariner 45.35 at the Drake Relays. Lugeulin Santos took 1st in 44.74, so Wariner was soundly beaten. Still his time is not bad....but not great either.

Wariner 2nd in Atlanta, 45.39.
Decent time, but really nothing to get excited about.

Adam Zavacký ran a new national record in the 100 meters today. He ran a 10.21 with a wind of 1.1! Tremendous start to the season for another new name to keep an eye on.

For those who haven't seen the Tumi thread.

Michael Tumi opened up his season running a new p.b. of 10.19 with a 0.1 wind and in cold rainy weather! Outstanding start for him!

A few more results from England today.

Danny Talbot ran a 10.33, Andrew Robertson ran a 10.39 and Craig Pickering raced for the first time in ages opening with a time of 10.40. All of this races were with no wind so descent times but these guys have a long ways to go if they are going to me more competitive.

I also saw some where that Richard Kilty ran a 10.01 in Ireland today but it was with a lot of wind and very cold. Good to see him racing again.

Weird sprinting results early in the season:

With disallowable tailwinds, we've had
Martin Keller 9.99
Julian Reuss 10.00
Richard Kilty 10.01

But with headwinds, we've had:
LeMaitre 10.17
Tumi 10.19

There are all kinds of calculators for how much wind affects performance, but suffice it to say that I'm more impressed by the illegal times than the legal ones. It's early in the season, and I wouldn't have expected those sorts of times from Keller, Reuss, and Kilty even in midseason form with a tailwind. They just haven't shown us this much so far in their careers, so I categorize them as pleasant surprises.

On the other hand, still nothing to get excited about from our biggest stars. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that, for once, LeMaitre's continuing mediocrity can legitimately be explained away by soreness from training or something. I would love to see him bust one loose in Manchester. Basically, though, I think Ato Bolden is right. LeMaitre trains year after year, day after day, with really slow training partners. Painfully slow training partners. Plus, he trains in the cold. He may be throwing away the golden years of his career by staying in Aix. At the very least, he should be training with Jimmy Vicaut, if not simply relocating to Jamaica or the US.

Tumi I expected much more from. He's a full 0.20 faster in the 60 than Zavacky, who essentially ran the same time. Based on his 6.51, Tumi should have no difficulty going sub-10 this year. His worst race should be better than 10.19 now.

I think your being a little too hard on Michael Tumi. It was very, very cold with a wet track on a rainy day. Look at the video I posted on the Tumi thread. Then It was his 2nd 100 meters race of the day. He also ran this time with no wind to help him after running a 10.22 earlier. For his first race out with terrible conditions, I'm very pleased. I expect a time around 10.10 the next time out unless he's running into a hurricane wind. He just looks so smooth when he runs. The times will come trackster. Very few sprinters start out with incredible times in their first 100 of the year and especially in those conditions.

The Germans surprised me too but especially Keller. Reuss is better than people think.

As for Kilty. He ran a wind legal 10.15 last year in April so he has it in him.

One last thing. I've said it way too many times. Where in the world is Ramil Guliyev and what is he waiting for?

On a cold wet day at the NY diamond league meet, the best race by far was by a high school kid, Ben Saarel, from Utah, who has had the most extraordinary season this year. He blew past one of the best (most likely THE best) high school mile field ever assembled and won by a wide margin in 4:02. In better conditions, he would have easily broken 4:00.

A few more quick resuts from today. No one mentioned Richard Kilty in his race at the Manchecster City Games. He finished 2nd in the 100 meters running a 10.34 into a negative 1.9 wind on a cold rainy track. That should be good for a time in the low 10.20's i.m.o.

Martin Keller of Germany ran a 10.24 wind legal today.

Julien Reus ran a wind legal 10.25 today after running a 200 meters race earlier in the day.

Descent times for May and I expect all of these guys to make a push down closer to 10 seconds later this summer!

Craig Pickering ran a 10.29 today at the Bedford International Games. I'm happy to see him back sprinting even if it is only part time in addition to being a member of the British Bobsled Team. I have often thought that he is capable of so much more. Regardless that is a descent time for May and other than Gemeli, he just might make a serious push to qualify for the British Team in the 4 x 100 Relay and an individual spot in the 100 meterers for the World Champs. It would be really nice to see him make up for missing the olympics in his home country last summer.

I'm not positive but the rumor is not this weekend but next weekend at home. Will update if I know for sure. He is going to have a
great year. I'm sure of it because his form will only get better. The kid is so raw. Similar to Lemaitre in taking up athletics/sprinting at
such a late age. He will go sub 10 this summer. I would be alot of money on it.

Still nothing new about Guliyev. He needs to hit the track soon.

Mary Cain just broke the High School record for the 800m! I believe this is the 10th High School Record she has broken this year - and she's a junior!
She ran against the world leading runners in the Prefontaine Meet in Oregon, and broke the record, with a sub 2 minute time - 1:59.51
Absolutely amazing. First HS girl under 2 minutes in the 800m.
What a talent!

Danny Talbot of England ran a new p.b. in the 200 meters today of 20.45 wind legal! He is on track for another great season. He runs very smmoth and effortlessly similar to Jeremy Wariner i.m.o. Big things hopefully to come from him, Gemeli, Kilty, Pickering, Robertson and maybe even Cackett.

Man oh man is Simone Collio a lucky guy. She is so beautiful and one of the best sprinters out there. I'm glad they are getting married though as you guys said before. It should make for some very fast babies! What an incredible start to the outdoor season for her!

Tilastopajanet.com needs to update their top european lists quickers. Julian Reus ran a 10.20 and 20.54 wind legal two days ago and it still isn't on the lists. He is in for a good summer. I want to see him break the german records in the 100 & maybe even the 200. He is the best sprinter they have had since Tobias Unger was in his prime several years back. Unger has personal bests of 10.16 and 20.20 but he is pretty much done running now with old age and injuriies.

It would be so sweet if Reus could become the first german to run a sub 10 electronically! He can do it if he has the perfect race. He is such an explosive starter similar to Michael Tumi. Tumi runs in Rome thursday in the diamond league race. Here is to another big p.b. with him trying to stay within 5 meters of Bolt and others. The field is stacked! Let's go Tumi!

YEP. DOOR IS OPEN FOR BOTH REUS AND TUMI TO BREAK 10 THIS SUMMER. BOTH ARE CARRYING THEIR INDOOR FORM OUTDOORS . ALSO GREAT TO SEE PICKERING BACK , I STILL THINK THIS LAD HAS SOMETHING SPECIAL IN HIM . ALSO WATCH OUT FOR KILTY , HE WILL REPRESENT GB OVER 200 FOR MOSCOW .:rockon:ALSO A MENTION TO ZAVACKY WHO IS ON THE WAY UP !!!!

It will be interesting to see what Tumi can do this year. In his only race so far, he ran 10.19 with no wind.
Gemeli can definitely go sub-10. I am anxious to see him back on the track.
Reus I think is overrated. He is running about 10.30 with no wind, and has no other times to back up his 10.09 last year.
Guliyev has sub-10 potential, but he has been away from the track so long that I think he may have retired.
Pickering?! His best days are sooo far behind him, I can't believe he's even mentioned here....FYI last week he ran 10.47 and 10.77.

Your not being fair to Julian Reus. On one hand you give credit to Lalova for running a 11.13 where she had a 2.0 wind to help her reach that time. Then Reus runs a 10.20 on Sunday with only a 1.6 wind and you knock him. He did this after running a wind legal 20.54! So he was tired and he is still not in near top shape. Reus might have an even better chance of running sub 10 than Tumi due to his great speed endurance. Michael Tumi can't even crack 21 seconds in the deuce. I love both of these guys and want to see both of them get there. I'm just defending Julian Reus because he is alot better than you give him credit for. He will make a serious push for 10 seconds flat and I also see Tumi doing it as well.

It would be the greatest summer ever if we could witness the first italian and the first german to go sub 10 wind legal. I can dream can't I?
