i think he deserves his own thread after that feat:

Colts LB Pat Angerer recorded 20 tackles in Sunday night's loss to the Steelers.

It's the most tackles by a Colt since Bob Sanders had 20 in 2005. Angerer, who was kicked to the middle to replace Gary Brackett (shoulder), posted 11 solo tackles. He's more than capable of eventually taking over for Brackett at middle linebacker full time.

they completely shut down Mendenhall, who all media predicted to have a huge game in absence of Brackett.

Gary Brackett, the Colts starting MLB who like so many black football players quickly declined after a few good seasons, was placed on IR today, clearing the way for Pat Angerer to take over in the middle, most likely for many years to come. Though he was obviously much less effective than Angerer, the overachieving Brackett had achieved "revered" status and was going to go back to starting even after Angerer's 21 tackle game before this setback. It's all systems go for the tackling machine now.

Here is a short AP blurb about how Angerer is "ready to step up" into his new starting position, like he's never done a thing:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Linebacker Pat Angerer(notes) is expected to anchor the Colts defense now that Gary Brackett(notes) is out for the season with a shoulder injury.
Brackett hurt his left shoulder in the season-opening loss at Houston. Angerer, a second-year player from Iowa, started last weekend against Pittsburgh and had 20 tackles. Colts coach Jim Caldwell says Angerer is particularly stout against the run.

Brackett had been one of the mainstays in Indy’s defense since becoming the starting middle linebacker in 2005. He’s a captain and a signal-caller on defense.
Angerer says he can’t replace all that Brackett does, but he’s ready for a greater role. He says he’s better prepared than he was last season as a rookie when he filled in while Brackett was hurt.

The part in bold is particularly a white man's statement. The old "aw shucks" answer. Can you imagine any black player expressing similar sentiments when taking over a position?

Typical White excessive modesty, but it's not hard to imagine the reporter "testing" Angerer by asking him exactly that question. Pat is likely savvy enough to know that there's no downside to the answer he gave given how the media and the league works, whereas if he had said something like "I can do everything Brackett did and more," the answer most blacks would give in the same situation, he might be branded as having an attitude problem.

i hope he comes back next game. the extent of the injury is not yet known.

Colts MLB Pat Angerer was unable to return to Sunday's game after suffering a right knee injury on the first play.

After the game, Angerer declined to specify the exact nature of his injury, but did say he was the victim of a crack-back block. "I thought it would loosen up, but it didn't. I couldn't plant on it," he said. Angerer is still tied for second in the NFL in tackles with 112, trailing only Redskins MLB London Fletcher.

I really hope that it's nothing serious. Angerer has "completely overachieved" to the DWFs and media pundits who all told us he was going to suck. We here on CF, having watched him during his time with Iowa, knew that he was going to be outstanding. I guess if a black is going to be leading in tackles, it might as well be London Fletcher, who is a class act.

It sucks because he's now been passed up by afflete London Fletcher by 10 tackles or so. I was hoping he would lead the league in tackles this season and now it looks unlikely.

Angerer remains mired in the "perpetually injured" category. (Article also has an update on Bjoern Werner.)

Timetable for Angerer's Return Unknown

By TOM JAMES TERRE HAUTE TRIBUNE-STAR

ANDERSON — It’s anybody’s guess as to when inside linebacker Pat Angerer will be able to return to a full practice regimen with the Indianapolis Colts.

Angerer has undergone a pair of surgical procedures on his right foot, one during the preseason last year and one during the offseason. He was initially injured in the Colts’ preseason opener with St. Louis last summer and was sidelined for the first five games last season.

And when he did return, Angerer was severely limited physically in what he could do. A second surgery was warranted earlier this year, which led to him being sidelined for the organized team activity practices last spring and being placed on the Colts’ physically unable to perform list for the start of training camp.

Now there are questions as to whether Angerer might have another injury issue to worry about. He was spotted at various times over the past week with ice bags wrapped around his right knee.

The Colts haven’t announced any updates on the linebacker’s foot injury or said anything about problems with the knee. Angerer has been tight-lipped as well.

Indianapolis coach Chuck Pagano, however, remains upbeat about the former Iowa standout’s chances of returning to the practice field sooner rather than later.

“He is in a great place right now. He’s better then he has ever been from a mental standpoint. That’s the hardest thing. You have an injury and then you come back and think you are 100 percent and something else happens, you start to get obviously frustrated and from a confidence level and all those things,” Pagano explained.

“But Pat is in a great place and feels really good about where he is at. Again, we are not going to push him [to return] until we know he is 100 percent. He is working his tail off with [team rehab specialist] Erin [Barill] and [head athletic trainer] Dave [Hammer]. The trainers [are working with Angerer] on the side, doing his rehab and going through position-specific drills. It’s just a matter of time before Pat gets back. He has had to deal with a lot and that’s never easy. So I feel good about that.”

Werner coming along

Indianapolis’ 2013 first-round draft pick, outside linebacker Bjoern Werner, continues to make progress.

Werner is currently the primary backup as the Colts’ rush outside linebacker, playing behind veteran Robert Mathis.

There had been some thought as to whether the team’s defensive coaching staff might try to cross train the former Florida State standout and have him also get work at strong side linebacker. He would end up playing behind free agent acquisition Erik Walden if that were to happen.

Pagano, though, says no. At least not for now.

“Right now the plan is just leave him at Rush, leave him behind Robert for the time being. We’re taxing him pretty good once we get to our third-down sub package and we’re giving him a lot there. Right now just we’re going to leave him there and let him grow from there,” the Colts coach said.

Overall, the Colts are happy with the way Werner is coming along.

“He’s got a long way to go, as we know, going from a guy that played with his hand in the dirt and very rarely stood up to a stand-up outside linebacker [while at Florida State]. We know that. We did it with two guys that played with their hand in the dirt for a long, long time last year [former Colts defensive end/outside linebacker Dwight Freeney and Mathis],” Pagano voiced.

“The transition is never easy but Bjoern’s a smart guy. We said back in the offseason program, OTAs and minicamp, he adapted pretty quickly. But just the technical things, the fundamental things, he’s doing well but he’s got work to do.”

some good news, at last:

Colts ILB Pat Angerer (concussion) will return to the lineup in Week 2.

The Colts have been intent on starting Angerer over Kavell Conner, who is still battling an ankle injury. So look for Angerer to get the first-team nod next to Jerrell Freeman as Indianapolis hosts the 1-0 Dolphins.

Pat Angerer has been told by the Colts that he will not be resigned, so he is now a free agent looking for a team. He's been replaced on the Colts roster by recently discarded-by-the-Browns LB D'Qwell Jackson. The Colts have certainly fallen far since their Super Bowl days with Peyton Manning on the whiteness scale.

It's a shame how certain players, black and white, are so ridiculously injury prone. The Falcons sign Pat Angerer, thus giving him an excellent chance to revive his career, and he's immediately injured again.

Atlanta Falcons Pat Angerer might have a concussion

The Atlanta Falcons needed to add some linebacker depth after losing stalwart Sean Weatherspoon for the season again, so they signed depth guy Pat Angerer about a week ago. Angerer has experience and a good chance at cracking the roster as a veteran backup, but he also comes with plenty of health concerns. The former Indianapolis Colts starter needed microfracture surgery and was thus not retained by the Colts, as he’s also missed five games in each of the past two seasons.

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Vaughn McClure, it looks like Angerer may have already suffered an ailment with the Falcons as training camp, as he reports that the 27-year-old Iowa product complained about headaches and may have a concussion. McClure adds that we “will know more tomorrow”, and we can only hope than Angerer doesn’t actually have a concussion.

Injuries and the Caste System claim another victim. Pat Angerer has decided to hang em up. :embarassed:

Ex-Colts LB Pat Angerer is retiring from football.
A 2010 second-round pick, Angerer couldn't crack the Falcons in training camp, and wasn't offered a job after working out for the Rams in September. Although he's still only 27, Angerer battled a host of injuries during his five-year career, including concussion issues. He hangs up his cleats the owner of 327 tackles across 54 career games.

I say the CS got him because he was cut by Atlanta this year who has a terrible defense. There are so many scrubs littered on every team but no one has room for a guy who had 148 tackles in a single season? Oh well, 2011 was a magical year for him and I'll always remember that. At only 27, I hope he's got some money in the bank and can move on in life with relative good health.

What a shame!
There was one season where Angerer was leading the league in tackles, and then he got injured. It was well into the season, which was a real pity because he looked certain to be the leading tackler for the year.
