There was a play in the 2nd half of the Colts/Patriots game where Donte Stallworth caught a fairly deep ball. In the replay they commented that Welker was such a threat that it left Stallworth open. They showed an aerial view of the play and Welker was easily two steps further down the field. Both guys were running straight down the field and one would presume going full tilt.

The need to double cover Randy Moss opens things up for Welker and Stallworth.

Welker's 40 yard dash times have never been spectacular (4.6)but he is the true definition of "football speed" and precise route running.

Welker has been nothing short of brilliant this season. As the third receiver, he's ranked number 8 in the league. Moss is ranked number one at 83.40 to Welker's 63.14 rating. Stallworth is ranked 33rd.

I tried to find his 40 time using Google and it came back with 4.6. It had Stallworth at 4.2. At least on that play he looked much faster than Stallworth. I found a video of the play but they cut it off before they go to the aerial view which showed them essentially running side by side and Welker was faster.

It is definitely true that Welker is a 4.6 40 guy; he has ran the drill many times I have heard and always ran in the 4.6 range. However, Welker runs the short shuttle in 3.8 and runs a 6.8 three cone indicating phenomenal quickness and cutting ability. Welker's first step quickness and jukes off the line are phenomenal, he may be the quickest guy off the line in the league. Welker possesses that mysterious game speed that white players are never normally given credit for (recent guys fitting this description would be Mike Hass, David Ball and David Anderson) when they run average 40 times. I am so glad this guy got the shot he deserves after a record breaking college career.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins
