FAIRFAX, Va. -- Resort-style swimming pools with fountains and heated spas, billiards rooms, granite counter tops, ceramic tile, indoor basketball courts, stainless steel appliances -- many Fairfax County taxpayers cannot afford such luxuries. But they are paying for these amenities for use by low-income residents who live in subsidized housing in affluent neighborhoods.

"They're a part of our rental program where we subsidize the rents for the individuals in the units, and we end up having to pick up the condo fees," supervisor Pat Herrity told 630 WMAL News.

Herrity does not advocate putting low-income residents in "ghetto-style" housing but he takes issue with taxpayers who cannot afford such luxuries being forced to pick up the tab for people who qualify for subsidized housing.

"These are resort-style amenities that the majority of the taxpayers that are subsidizing it don't have on their own," said Herrity, adding that "luxury has no place in subsidized housing."

"If the occupants of these homes improve their lives financially, they will be forced to move out. And the housing they could afford without the taxpayer subsidy is well below the quality of these homes," he said.

Herrity said Fairfax County should sell subsidized housing units located in affluent neighborhoods and stop paying the condo fees.

"Why would we have taxpayers who are trying to work their way into these neighborhoods pay for somebody else to be put into these neighborhoods," said Herrity.

Hey Guys. I live in Fairfax Virginia. Despite the beauty of the place it is so overcongested and it is just high priced condo after condo in the area. I know the NoVa area is expensive to live in but Fairfax condos go for more money then a 4 bedroom ranch on an acre of land in Central NY where I used to live. The parking is so bad in my area people are lined up on side streets not meant for parked cars.<div>Its funny how a large 2 bed room apartment ( euphemised as a condo ) can cost over 300,000 dollars. I dont know how the tax payers can flip this bill in my area. Renting a condogoes upwards of 1800 dollars.</div><div>Also I live near the Fair Oaks Mall and went mall walking early one morning my first day there and believe it or not the first 50 or so couples I walked by at 6 am were rude people talking on their cell phones in either Spanish or some Asian dialect. </div><div>All the gas stations on the outskirts of the area advertize their food prices in Spanish and English there. I would expect that in the SOuthwest not 15 miles west DC.</div>

    Westside,

I just read another story that has my blood boiling.I live in the city mentoned below in the story. Most of my neighbors consider our community an oasis from DIEVERSITY.In the past I've sent several e-mails to the liberal clown who is our mayor in an effort to enlighten him to the color of crime. He is the fool who proposed opening up our local government buildings to house Katrina blacks.

He and other liberal dipwads have made it their mission to ghettoize our community.

We have been very vocal in our opposition but the government is intent on giving us the shaft!

I've been supporting our conservative republican politicians as of late because they are MY only hope. When it comes to voter I.D., opposition to amnesty, enforcing the border, affirmative action policies, curtailing big spending government etc. they are the only force getting things done across the nation.

    All politics is local.

I'm really ticked at the moment.

Feds sue New Berlin for racism

Published: Friday, June 24, 2011 11:19 AM CDT
MILWAUKEE (AP) â€" The U.S. government has filed a lawsuit alleging New Berlin city officials caved to pressure from their largely white community by deciding not to build low-income housing that could attract more black families.

The mayor and other city officials voted in May 2010 to allow the construction but reconsidered following an immediate backlash from the community, according to federal prosecutors. Their lawsuit was dated Wednesday and released Thursday.

Messages left with Mayor Jack Chiovatero and City Attorney Mark Blum were not immediately returned.

New Berlin is about 15 miles southwest of Milwaukee. The city's website quotes 2000 census data that say about 96 percent of the city's 38,000 residents are white.

The lawsuit said MSP Real Estate Inc. of St. Louis Park, Minn., submitted an application in March 2010 to build 180 units of affordable housing in New Berlin. The units would be designated for low-income workers and seniors, and rents would be below market rate.

The city Department of Community Development recommended that the application be approved. A few days later the city planning commission, of which the mayor is a member, voted 4-3 to approve the general application.

Over the next few weeks, city officials were inundated with emails and phone calls, the majority of which voiced opposition to the project, federal prosecutors said.

"Some of the opposition was based in part on fear that the prospective tenants would be African American or minority,"Â￾ the lawsuit said.

The communications included references to crime, drugs and gangs, and some included the N-word, according to court documents.

The mayor also received threatening phone calls at home, his car tires were slashed, his car windows were shot through, and a sign reading "(N-word) lover"Â￾ was placed in his yard, the lawsuit said.

About two weeks later the mayor asked the planning commission to let him reconsider his vote, saying he was concerned about certain parking waivers included in the original approval.

From that point, according to a chronology detailed by prosecutors, the commission sought reasons to deny the MSP project even as the developer argued that it had resolved or could resolve each issue raised.

Both sides appeared to reach a compromise in January, and a modified project was given tentative approval. However, the Common Council blocked the compromise.

In racial terms, I live in a very nice part of LA. My condo here costs over 500k and believe it or not (but I know you'll believe it) illegal Mexicans and their criminal mayor Villaraigosa (misspelled? I don't give a f**k) are making demands of the cities of Beverly Hills, Westwood, and Brentwood to start making more affordable housing to "hardworking families."

In Los Angeles, this is code for Mexicans and Blacks, and lately more for Mexicans. But being realistic, I think the large part of both populations is completely worthless to our tax system.

There are some good Mexican and Black folk, of course, but I'm talking majorities here.

Why should some absolutely worthless, lazy piece of sh** illegal immigrant and her fat pig offspring leech of my tax dollars in the first place?

And, after I busted my A$$ and worked like a dog through college and grad school to live where I live, why should the same borderline retarded criminals get to live in MY community?

America is more and more becoming a land where a growing majority has their hands out for freebies, and the people able to provide it are shrinking in number.

What will these leeches do when the well runs dry, and the few taxpayers that remain die off?

America will of course by then become China's whore.

regarding your second to last sentence.

They will riot, mob, kill, rape, pilage, destroy civil society (think White people)then turn on each other. Those Whites who will survive with a few good hispanics will have prepared.

I believe things will come to a head soon after next election if it fosters in more democrats and RINOS and if BO remains.

The taxpayers shouldn't have to subsidize a cardboard box & a newspaper "cover" for these untermenschen....much less a nice apartment. Anyone on the government (taxpayer) dole should "demand" to live anywhere. It's one thing to not want to live in a high crime area (as a welfare case), but quite another to "demand" to be placed in an affluent area (where you're most certainly not wanted).

MSP Real Estate of St. Louis Park, MN has a web site ( http://www.msphousing.com/ ). I suspect they are responsible for bringing this matter to the attention of the U.S. Justice Department. Their website states the project is going forward and will be completed in 2012. Maybe the website just hasn't been updated.

"City Center is a 102-unit general occupancy apartment complex consisting of a mix of market rate and affordable housing. Construction on this one, two and three-bedroom apartment homes will begin construction in the fall of 2011 with completion in the fall of 2012."

On one similar project they received over $600,000 in Federal grants. So having the New Berlin project fail could cost them money.

The odd thing is they do both senior housing and low-income housing. I would think senior housing would be easier to get approval for and to manage. Maybe they get more money from the Feds if they build 'affordable' housing.
