What a shamethat Ballesteros succumbed to brain cancer at the age ofjust 54. He was a giant of golf and especially of European golf, the man most responsible for Europe's current stretch of Ryder Cup dominance.

I was watching the Golf Channel today, and his loss, while very sad to all U.S. golf fans, is especially keen in Europe. Many observers were calling him Europe's equivalent to Arnold Palmer when it came to achievements, charisma and popularity. Both also came from humble roots, a rarity among top golfers. When Arnie passes there will be tremendous mourning; Seve's death is perhaps more poignant because of how short his life was.

Very well said, Don.

Seve was a true original similar to our own Arnold Palmer. He transformed the perception and competitiveness of European golf single handedly.Despite the many stories of his gamesmanship, he was a guy's guy.Ballesteros was afierce competitor who brought athleticism, passion andfun and was quick to share his stories, talents and wisdom with his fellow golfers, competitors.

As a very classy gesture, Phil Mickelson, our contemporary Arnold Palmer, dedicatedthis pastMaster's Champion dinner andfare in honor of Ballesteros.
