I'll be rooting on the Saints defense to dominate teams in the playoffs. Yeah, they screwed Hass, but I don't want Simoneau, Fujita, Shanle, Young, Leisle, etc. to get screwed in the future.

SNL treated Peyton well and he was very good though a bit solemn, probably because of understandable nervousness. It was great that his family was introduced and acknowledged by the audience.

What strikes me about SNL is how safe and conservative it is. When it began in 1975 the counterculture had just expired and the show posed as representingthe deceased's"cutting edge." Now the cutting edge is us, as SNL and the rest of the media act as protectors of the status quo.

Peyton Manning played a masterful game against the Jaguars in Jax last night. David Garrard played a very good game for a black QB but he was no match for Manning. Indy had no running game, and their defense couldn't stop the Jaguars' offense for virtually the entire game. Manning simply lifted the team on his shoulders and led them to victory with his brilliant play.

A nice benefit of the win is that Peyton has moved to the top of the list when MVP candidates are being mentioned. His chief competition would appear to be Adrian Peterson and possibly Kurt Warner.

What would be said of Peyton Manning if he is able to carry the Colts to a Super Bowl win this year? It would make him the obvious No 1 pro athlete of his generation, and the System would have to acknowledge this fact.

Manning was awesome and could still reach 4000 yards passing this season with that performance.

Gerrard on the other hand, despite having a good game, came up empty when it counted the most. First the interception late in the game. Then the sack at the very end.

I find it very gratifying that the difference in the level of play between black and white QB's gets exposed in these type of games.

I get the impression that Peyton will play two more seasons and then promptly retire on top.

He currently has over 45,500 passing yards. If he stays healthy, he'll end his career with over 50,000 passing yards and nearly 400 passing TD's.

His legs looked fully healthy against Jacksonville. His athleticism is underrated. Some elements of the media still belitte him out of jealousy.

Drew Bledsoe harmed (set-back) the image of the tall White QB, but Peyton has restored it! He isn't stiff!

I have followed Peyton Manning since his Tennessee days. He will play longer than two more seasons. He really wants to set all the passing records and win more Super Bowls. More than any highly touted QB in my memory, Manning lived up to his billing in both college and pro football.

Manning only threw one TD pass today, but again led his team to victory on the road against a tough Baltimore defense.

After the gameI was watching BSPN's coverage of the day's games and both Trent Dilfer and Tom Jackson said without any reservations or hesitation what I have believed for five years, that Peyton Manning is the best quarterback of all time. Jackson added that Peyton will rewrite the record book before he's done, which he will as long as he avoids a serious injury.

The Colts are not only 14-0, they have now won at least 12 games in 7 straight seasons, in large part because of Manning. Even if that streak ends next season it's highly unlikely to be broken in the up and down, parity-driven NFL, even if parity happens to have gone out the window of late.

What a great QB! It's a treat to watch Peyton Manning and how he masters all aspects of the offense while throwing the ball to guys like Gonzalez, Collie, and Clark.

Congratulations to Peyton Manning for winning another MVP!

All the votes cast went to white QB's. Excellent.

However, I was surprised that Brees and Rivers in particular received so few votes.

Manning's Numbers Defy Perception of 'Down' Season

<DIV =yn-story- _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_129426763657911">

INDIANAPOLIS â€" Peyton Manning has heard it all this season.

It's a "down" year. Age is catching up to him. Something must have caused the worst slump of his pro career.

Turns out, it was all image.

While Manning's quarterback rating did slip this season, he still completed more than 66 percent of his passes, still threw for 4,700 yards and still threw 33 touchdown passes.

"The numbers speak for themselves, and I think anytime you have a guy throw for 4,700 yards and 33 touchdowns, any team would take that," left tackle Charlie Johnson said Tuesday. "It just shows how productive he's been."

In some ways, Manning has been so good over the years that he's a victim of his own success.

Most want to compare Manning's usually impeccable seasons against one another, and using that standard, Manning may never top his record-setting 2004 â€" 49 TD passes and 4,557 yards, numbers that would have gone even higher had Manning not left games early several times that season.

This year, Manning's mediocre 91.9 passer rating could be evidence of a slide.

But Manning has posted some of the best numbers of his career.

He had career-highs in attempts (679) and yards. His 33 TDs match his second-highest total in a season, and it's the second time he's ever topped 30 TDs in back-to-back seasons. Manning's completion percentage (66.3), while down from 2009's 68.8, still ranks above his career average of 64.9.

And despite throwing 11 interceptions in three games earlier this season, Manning threw 17 picks â€" one more than he did last season when he won his fourth MVP Award.

"Somebody was asking 'Did you all have a team meeting or did you try to help other guys?'" Manning said, describing how he broke out of the slump. "I was trying to help myself. I thought before I started trying to help other guys do their jobs, I needed to be sure I'm doing my job. I didn't think I was doing my job well enough. I was determined to play better."

Since then, he's thrown nine TDs, two interceptions and gone 4-0.

But what's most impressive is how Manning has done it.

He had virtually no running game for the first 12 weeks and lost All-Pro tight end Dallas Clark, his favorite outlet receiver, with a season-ending wrist injury Oct. 17. Slot receiver Austin Collie has missed most of the last nine games, meaning Manning has had to rely on unheralded guys such as Jacob Tamme and Blair White to do most of the damage.

So Manning adapted.

He threw shorter, quicker passes, which resulted in a noticeable drop in his average per attempt â€" from 7.68 over his first 12 seasons to 6.92 in 2010.

But the overall results were essentially the same. Manning led the Colts (10-6) to their seventh AFC South title in eight years, tied the NFL record with a ninth consecutive playoff berth and set up a Saturday night wild-card showdown with the Jets.

"I wish it would be a huge factor," Jets coach Rex Ryan said when asked whether the loss of Clark and Collie had an impact on the Colts. "But with Peyton Manning back there, he just throws it to the open guy."

The bigger problem for New York (11-5) is devising a game plan to stop Manning.

In six career meetings, as Ravens defensive coordinator and Jets head coach, Ryan is 1-5 against Manning and 0-2 in the playoffs. The lone victory came in Week 16 last season, when the Colts pulled their starters in the third quarter and gift-wrapped a 29-15 Jets victory.

Ryan is so determined to win this one that he called it "personal."

Manning insists he hadn't heard the comment until Tuesday, the same day Ryan elaborated on what he meant.

"I feel like I owe him," Ryan explained. "He needs to feel what I felt the last two times we played in the playoffs. I can't stand getting beat, and I know the main source of it â€" it's Peyton Manning."

Because even when it seems Manning isn't playing his best, he still figures out a way to win games.

"I think where a lot of people looked at it and thought he was playing poorly, it wasn't a function of him and him alone," coach Jim Caldwell said. "In our eyes, he wasn't playing as poorly as you all surmise. I think his numbers indicate that he's as productive as anyone else and what he did, was what he always does."

Pray it isn't so:

The Indianapolis Star's Phillip B. Wilson is "leaning beyond 50-50" on Peyton Manning (neck surgeries) "ever playing in Indy again, if anywhere." Wilson says he's "maybe even 30-70" on Manning ever playing again. It's a sobering assessment from the long-time Colts' beat writer, who has been as close to Manning's situation as anybody. Manning is expected to remain without a timetable for a return until he meets with his doctors on December 1.

Manning said today that he hopes to play this year still. Even if Manning is cleared to play this year he should just let his neck heal until next year IMHO.

I agree. He shouldnt try to come back to soon. Just shows how much he loves the game, and how tough he is that he wants to get back in there this year. What a great heart!

I would hope Manning retires at this point. Considering his injuries, a comeback could have effects that are detrimental to his health. He's not going to help a winless Colts team that has serious issues on defense. He's a HOF player, maybe the best qb of all time. The Colts can pick up Luck.

Peyton Manning may be gone next season.

Assuming they land the No. 1 pick, the Colts will take Stanford QB Andrew Luck, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

At 0-11, the Colts are two games clear of the Rams and Vikings for the league's worst record. Executive Bill Polian said Monday that the Colts would be willing to pay both Peyton Manning and a No. 1 overall quarterback. It's also possible that the Colts move on from Manning after the season. "Luck can start looking to buy a new house in Indianapolis," writes Schefter.
