Apparently he shot and killed his girlfriend at their home. Waiting for further details, but rather shocking news!

From what little I've heard, he thought she was an intruder trying to break into his house. Sad, sad, story.

You might be right but we will have let the jury decide that. If he is guilty then I have no compassion for him and he deserves what ever
may happen. His girlfriend was so beautiful and talented. She had her whole life in front of her. It's all gone now. Tragedy.

They have found "illegal" performance enhancing drugs in his house. What are the chances an Olympic sprinter would have PED's?? I guess he has to have his hero label stripped from him because of this (and the murder of course). Ironically I heard his defense is going to be "roid rage". What a hoot. He cheats with the drugs, comits a crime, and he's going to use it as a defense.

International journalism seems to be doing a poor job filtering out disinformation regarding this case. Lots of uncredited allegations could probably be quickly confirmed or denied. At this point, I don't have much faith in the South African court weeding out the truth of the matter, and I am even less expectant that the wire stories will be of much use for informing opinion. The only details worth remembering at this point are those attached to a named quote.

On that note, we have a new assertion in this story. Whether or not Pistorius shot and bludgeoned his girlfriend in a drunken, steroid-addled rage over a pillow-talk spat, we can rest assured that he was not a racist.

The family of Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympian accused of shooting his girlfriend dead on St Valentine's Day, have distanced themselves from comments by his father Henke that the family had to arm themselves because South Africa's ANC government had failed to tackle rampant crime. Henke Pistorius told The Telegraph on Sunday that he and other members of his family owned a total of 55 guns because they could not rely on the police to protect them against criminals. He laid the blame for South Africa's violent crime rates, which are among the highest in the world with 15,000 people murdered last year, on the ANC-led state.
"It speaks to the ANC government, look at white crime levels, why protection is so poor in this country, it's an aspect of our society," he said. "You can't rely on the police, not because they are inefficient always but because crime is so rife."

Absolutely nothing inflammatory or controversial in that statement. Whites are victimized by blacks in South Africa, and police offer inadequate protection to deter such violent crimes as armed robbery and murder. Simply explaining the context of this quote provides a citation to those facts.

But Arnold Pistorius, Henke's brother and Oscar's uncle, said the family as a whole was "deeply concerned" by the remarks, and strongly refuted the suggestion they blamed the ANC government for crime against white South Africans in particular.
He said that contrary to Mr Pistorius' claim, the family owned firearms "purely for sport and hunting purposes".
"Oscar Pistorius' family is deepy concerned about the comments made by Oscar's father, Henke Pistorius, to the Telegraph about the family using its weapons to defend themselves against crime in South Africa, and especially about his comments that the ANC government is not willing to protect white South Africans," he said in a statement released through the family's official PR machine, run by former Sun editor Stuart Higgins.
"Oscar and the rest of the Pistorius family distances itself from the comments. Henke's interview with the newspaper was unapproved by our media liaison team. The comments don't represent the views of Oscar or the rest of the Pistorius family."
Following the statement by the Pistorius family, the ANC's national spokesman Jackson Mthembu issued one of their own, labelling Henke Pistorius as "racist" and accusing him of seeking to "politicise" a "tragic incident".
"The African National Congress rejects with contempt the accusation made by Henke Pistorius (the father to Oscar Pistorius) to a UK newspaper that 'the ANC government is not willing to protect white South Africans'," Mr Mthembu said.
"Not only is this statement devoid of truth, it is also racist. It is sad that he has chosen to politicise a tragic incident that is still fresh in the minds of those affected and the public. This tragic incident has affected two families that are still trying to come to terms with what happened and this latest racist slur is not assisting these families. We think it is ill-advisable for anyone to start apportioning undue blame."

It's Bizarro World down there. The defense proclaims that there is not really any credible threat of armed robbery from feral black criminals, and the weapon of self-defense was actually just an incidental piece of sporting equipment. Meanwhile, the prosecution assures us that the face of South African violent crime has no description, and it would be perfectly reasonable that the voice of a whimpering white woman behind a sealed bathroom door be mistaken as a viable justification of deadly force.

As long as nobody was being a racist, was there even any crime at all?

I saw a special about the case on the Investigative Discovery Channel a few days ago. It was titled something like "Beauty and the Blade Runner." It will be repeated on Saturday morning March 9 at 8am ET. Those interested can set their DVR.

The program showed how white people have to live in South Africa. Pistorius lived in a heavily gated area with a very high wall with 250 volt wires on top.

Also, the ID channel show seemed to indicate most of South Africa's rich celebrities are still white. Both the suspect and the victim in this case are in that category.

The defense has a case on incompetence and possible tampering of evidence. Supposedly the lead investigator has been investigated for shooting civilians. If you had a look at the policeman traipsing through his house it has the look of typical African incompetence. The thoughts of the Nawlins police force comes to mind....:scared:
