A white, or nearly all-white Hilliard-Davidson from the Columbus area defeated 99% white Mentor from the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, 36-35 in the state big-school championship game. Hilliard won largely on a 250 yard, 5 TD performance from their white rb, Bo Delande. Delande gained a ton of yards this year and ran for a load of TDs. I'm not sure of his official stats, but they're in the 2000, 30 range.

He did this against a Mentor team that doesn't play a single black at any skill position- the community is almost exclusively white. Mentor, it should be known twice defeated Troy Smith's all black, inner city Glenville, holding them to a combined 31 points in two games.

How then is it possible that a white rb (Delande) runs for 250 and 5 TDs against Mentor when Glenville, loaded with "great athletes" with "great speed" and many big college recruits, could only muster 31 points in two games, losing twice?

Incidentally, Delande is listed as 6' 180# and interestingly not among Ohio's top recruits. As far as I can tell he's not being strongly recruited.

Damnit, I have been away and wondered what Mentor did in the state final. I know they got past the semis, but it sucks they lost. My favorite teams from the area are Mentor and Avon Lake.

Massillon is racially mixed, close to 50-50. They are not the powerhouse they used to be. Canton McKinley has had more success in recent years, although Massillon won this year's game.

JoeV, Mentor was up 35-28 in the third OT and Hilliard's Delande fumbled at about the Mentor 5. A Mentor player fell on the ball, but couldn't hold on. On the next two plays, Delande scored a TD and a 2pt conversion. Game over.

HAHA!! I love how the best high school football state(pound for pound) in the country featured two all white teams for their big school championship. Ohio just knows how to produce white athletes. [IMG]
