I'm not usually surprised by anything that happens in Don King's America, but even I was a bit amazed that every single jock- sniffing "journalist" appears to be defending, or at least not criticizing, Ed Reed's asinine, team killing comments about Joe Flacco. Skip Bayless pretended to be astounded, but he certainly didn't take the saintly Reed to task and mentioned that he felt the same way about Flacco.
Let's play the usual game, and imagine what would happen if, say, Carolina had a white defensive star (I know, but play along), and he said the same things about Cam Newton. Or replace Newton with any other black QB and put any white defensive star in there. We all know what the reaction would be in such a situation; at the very least, there would be unanimous, extremely strong criticism of the defensive player for throwing his teammate under the bus, especially on the eve of such a huge game. At worst, Al Sharpton would get involved, and maybe Obama would invite them both to the White House to sort things out.
I just find these kinds of comments incredible. While New England should already have been a heavy favorite, from a logical standpoint, Reed's idiotic comments should put even more pressure on a QB already lacking in confidence, and thus should ensure a Patriots' victory. But then again, in Don King's America, I just can't envision an overrated moron like Reed being the goat here, especially at the hands of the whitest offense the league has seen in decades.
If there's any justice, the Patriots will win easily.
