Yes, it's that time of the year again!

It's been another good year in college wrestling, with White wrestlers picking up 7 of 10 championships!

Troy Nickerson 125 pounds
Franklin Gomez 133 (Hispanic)
J Jaggers 141
Darrion Caldwell 149 (Black)
Jordan Burroughs 157 (Black)
Jarrod King 165
Steve Luke 174
Jake Herbert 184
Jake Varner 197
Mark Ellis Heavyweight

I was a little worried when non-whites won three of the first five, but we swept the last five. Unfortunately, the non-white wrestlers won every final match they participated in. It would've been nice to see a White wrestler defeat a non-white wrestler. But on the other hand, not many got into the finals in the first place. Only three of the best twenty wrestlers in the country this year were non-white. I'll take it!

Winning the last five upper weight classes was impressive. Its almost a lock every year that the super heavyweight champions white.Gomez winning at 133 is not too disapointing as like in boxing whites are probably not as competitive in them truly small weight classes like the statistically more significant Asians and Latinos and this is a common theme now amongst various combat sports and strength events internationally like Judo, boxing, weight lifting etc.Metcalf losing to Caldwell was the big shocker and dissapointment of the night.

Now that's a phenomenal achievement for whites in that area! I hope they continue winning.

Wrestlers are some of the best all-around athletes out there. Unfortunately, it doesn't get the marketing/hype that caste-pushed football & hoops (outside the Midwest). I'd love to see big time D-1 Wrestling in the South.
