Will he make it? His last game was pretty good, 8 or 9 catches. Hes got more receptions that Roy Williams at 74. Go Mike! Hes being referred to online as " this years great white hype".

Im afraid hel have a good season like Bennet and stokely in 04, and then fade away and be forgotten.

yeah, he will get it barring any unexpected occurances. i am pretty sure that he won't rip any benefits of this season and might even be relegated to being 3rd or 4th receiver next year, when Lions will try and bring "superior" receivers... i really hope i am wrong here especially since i think Martz won't give up on him easily.

i really think you'r wrong because If Furrey put 1000yards, the fans won't accept him on the bensh.

You don't know the fans in Detroit, they wouldn't mind if he was benched this Sunday. Furrey is a one year deal unless he has a phenomenal exhibition season and starts out very well. Fans and media still describe him as a "scrub" and point to him as one of the desperate moves of a last place team. White Detroit fans hate white baseball/football/basketball players.

To answer the question, unless they quit going to him in the last few weeks of the season, yes, Mike Furrey will break 1,000 yards.

I don't know about that Gibbie was loved in Detroit. Denny McClain can still run for Mayor of Detroit, even with it majority black now.......

Well, he has 857 yards. With three games to play he should break the four digit mark.Edited by: Deacon

Luckily Furrey's got Mike Martz on his side and that's saying something. I don't think Martz would demote Furrey at all. Furrey is his guy and it would only make Martz look good if the guy he brought in continues to florish.

only 3 catches for 20 yards today, might be hard to make it unless he rebounds and has at least very good game.

Worse then that, Mike Williams the big bust got a few catches in garbage time which will whet the appetite of the caste system whores to see him replace Furrey.

I have a strange theory that Martz wants to keep Furrey as his 2nd receiver, and that that's the sole reason he cut Kevin Kasper after two weeks on the roster and signed Bradford. He didn't want to seem too pro-white. One white WR is enough to cause a stir! Especially when the team's record is 2-11...stupid fans seem to blame it on whitey, even when all evidence points to the contrary.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

he didn't in this game, but Lions offense was pathetic, had 135 yards throug the air. 8 out of 17 catches went to whites: Furrey and TE Fitzsimmons.
i expect Furrey to fully rebound in nextgame, but even then getting 1K might be hard.

The Fantasy football "expert" for USA Today has Furrey ratred as the 45th best WR out there. While legends such as Arnaz Battle and Donte Stallworth tower above a guy who has 900+ yards and 88 catches. I can think of no other reason but that Furrey is a little light of skin as to what would be the reason for such a low ranking. It makes me sick!

According to Yahoo's stats, Mike Furrey finished with 98 catches and 1086 yards. Who was the last white receiver with that many catches? Ed McCaffrey had 102 with Denver back in 2000.

Yahoo: Lions' Furrey goes from zero catches to 98 December 31, 2006

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Detroit's Mike Furrey had 11 catches in the season finale Sunday to finish with 98, the most ever by a non-rookie following a season when he had no catches.

Furrey's 10-yard reception in the third quarter of the Lions' 39-31 victory over the Dallas Cowboys was his sixth of the game, giving him the record that he extended. Furrey is a fourth-year player who started 11 games as a defensive back for St. Louis last season.

Lionel Taylor had 92 catches for Denver in the AFL in 1960, the previous mark for the most catches by a non-rookie following a season with none. Anquan Boldin of the Cardinals had 101 catches as a rookie in 2003, the most catches by any player with none the previous season.

Furrey also went over 1,000 yards for the season -- he finished with 1,086 yards and six touchdowns, including a 13-yard score later in the third quarter. Furrey and Roy Williams (1,310 yards) are the first Lions duo to both have 1,000 yards receiving in the same season since Germane Crowell and Johnnie Morton in 1999.

This little blurb from Peter King of SI on his Monday Morning QB column. Seems like they can't say anything positive about Furrey (or any other skilled whitey) without a negative qualifier to go with it:

"Detroit WR Mike Furrey. Not only did he catch 11 balls to give him an incredible 98 catches for the season, but the former safety, who also is on the Lions' punt team, downed a second-half Lion punt at the Cowboy 1-yard line. Mike Martz did a great job creating a weapon out of Furrey, a guy who'd never been a weapon in his football life."

The kid was a pretty fearsome system in his day if that idiot chose to do a little research.

If any black player made the transition from DB to WR in such a magnificant way, he'd be just a tad bit better known (and appreciated) than Furrey is. Furrey will be lucky to hold on to his starting job next season. Maybe Martz will go after Kevin Curtis and have two of his top three WRs be white. We can all dream....

Thanks for the stats chris371. It's pretty amazing when you look at the season that he has had. It's one for the ages.I just get so frustrated that most of this guys never get hardly any chances to play until they are alot older. The lose out on some of their best athletic years of the early to mid twenties.Mike Furrey needs to back up this season with another big year next season.I feel bad for Bennett because he should have easily had over a thousand yards if they just threw to him more. The same could easily be said about Kevin Curtis.Maybe next year,we can see all of these guys back on top with hopefully the Shark & Hass joining them.

well, we can't have Furrey and Curtis on the same team without them taking catches from each other. i would rather have Curtis go somewhere else where he is appreciated.
