I just heard John Clayton on ESPN, and he said the Bengals would love to get a deal done with Owens by Thursday, in time for training camp.

If this indeed does happen, screw this dispicable team. I hate caste whores Mike Brown and thug-lover Marvin Lewis. They have a capable reciever in Matt Jones, who can more than get the job done next to Ocho Stinko.

I think we can kiss Matt Jones good-bye.

If he signs with the Bengals it is the perfect example of the caste system in action. Egotistical black player who has the maturity of someone half his age gets another free ride while the better white player, 9 years younger with alot of upside gets the shaft. I am hoping this does not happen but not holding my breath. I feel for Matt Jones...screwed over royally during his tenure in the nfl.

It's been obvious almost since the day of his signing that Jones isn't going to get a fair shake in Cincy. Other than one positive early report that said he was running by the d-backs (and that was after it was claimed his workout for the Bengals was one of the worst ever), everything has been extremely negative. By contrast, Shipley is getting a lot of good press for a White receiver. The handwriting couldn't be much plainer -- Shipley is gonna be the Bengals one and only White receiver. It'll take arash of injuries for Jones to make the team.

Is there a team in theNFL that will give him a genuine opportunity? Doesn't look like it. If all 32 teams passed on him last year, while hewas in one of his prime athletic years, they'll do it again. All because hegot caught snortinga line of coke, which makes him practically an angel compared to what black players do and get away with all the time. The deck has been stacked against him ever since he was drafted by the worst team for him to land on.

If he does get cut from the Bengals he still has a chance to be picked up by another team. It's a long shot but it's better than nothing. Teams like St. Louis could use a big target like Jones. Then again the Rams already have Amendola so two white receivers would be too much. They did have Curtis and Looker on the roster some years back at the same time.

The Bucs are another team that could use Jones. They are shallow at receiver but the over rated Benn will probably start for them this year. With Raheem Morris as coach it's another long shot.

Antonio Bryant, Chad Johnson, and Andre Caldwell are most likely the starters. Shipley, Jones, Briscoe, and some no-name black scrubs (Quan Cosby and Jerome Simpson) are also in the mix.

Signing Terrell Owens makes little sense for the Bengals"¦especially since there are so many teams with mediocre (or downright wretched) WRs corps. Teams like the Bills, Browns, Jaguars, Titans, Chiefs, Raiders, Giants, Bears, Bucs, Rams, and 49ers should be desperate for help. And yes, even the washed-up Owens is an upgrade compared to most of these nobody turds.

Then again, in a league so famously bizarre, I'm not overly surprised that one of the few teams with a relatively deep WR corps would covet another WR"¦especially one with a chemical imbalance and an instinctive need to create staged exhibitions of egomania. I'm so "entertained."Â￾

And yes, the signing of Drama Queen will indeed end Matt Jones' career in the NFL.

Jones is 9 years younger, taller, faster, and a better overall athlete than the 36 year old Owens who is washed up. Jones can't make a roster at 27 yet old farts like Owens are recycled throughout the league on a daily basis.

For more recycled players, please see: Engram, Bobby and Galloway, Joey. That any of these guys are in the league anymore is proof of the caste system.

On top of that Galloway is now on the Redskins. He's 38 for pete sakes. Instead of taking a young player like Jurovich or Blair White they pick this clown up. He's done nothing for several years now.

Apparently there is room in the NFL for wide receivers who are almost 40 but you have to be black. Speedy white receivers need not apply.

I don't see how 1 coach/gm doesn't just ignore the caste system and take advantage of Jones ridiculous talent the way BB did with Welker. Not only is MJ a great WR, he can also do a ton of damage in the now popular Wildcat. Unfortunately it looks like MJ is going to have to bulk up and play the caste friendlier position, TE...

Ernest Wilford, who runs a 4.70 40 was allowed to play wide receiver for years before being used as a tight end. What a double standard.

Supposedly the Bengals are very concerned with Antonio Bryant's knee...uncertain it will be able to hold up?? Prompting the interest in TO...

Check Trashen's list again...there are plenty of teams with weak/watered down WR unit's...thanks for posting those for me! Was going to say the same thing...

I'm still hoping the best for Matt Jones! Eventhough the odds are stacked against him.

Off the top of my head...The Colts, Patriots, Dolphins, Texans, Chiefs, Broncos, Packers (possibly Falcons)are the teams with more than 1 white WR that should make the final cut...why not the Bengals too!

Wouldn't surprise me at all if David Anderson (Texans), Lance Long (Chiefs), Brandon Stokley (Broncos), and Brett Swain (Packers) are all cut or at least some of them, but yeah you'd hope there'd be some team out there that will give Jones an opportunity. But look at guys like Danny Farmer, Mike Hass and alarge numberof others going back many years, it's all too common for White receivers with either proven production and/or elite athletic abilityto be whiteballed by the NFL.

Great posts in this thread. Thrashen's post was basically exactly what I would have said- (spot on)- per one minor difference of opinion by me. As a former Giants' fan, I will say the Giants have Steve Smith (a good number one WR), a young Hakeem Nicks- with a similar style and measurables to Brian Hartline. They have young "former" pot head enigma Mario Manningham, who strangely stepped out of bounds twice when breaking free on a deep routes, (but he may project as a slot man in the future). The Giants also have Dominek Hixon- who has been a solid return guy when used there and he can be a solid Flanker. Then they have Ramses Barden who is very raw, but has a similar build and measurables to Plaxico. Yes, other than Steve Smith- Matt Jones has clearly shown more as a WR so far than any of these guys, but there is potential here.

And WA33: Earnest Wilford ran a 4.78 at the NFL combine which rounds up to 4.8. Matt Jones is roughly the same size, but runs a 4.37 and can be used as a wildcat QB (the big thing in the NFL right now) as well and is right at the beginning of what could be his prime (coming off an on pace for 1,000 yard season)- two years ago- after he his instincts started to click, after being jerked around at his new position and being fed new QBs constantly in an already below average Jags offense. Yet he is written off already and mocked as "powder" by the self loathing DWFs and white cultural Marxist "journalists". They grasp at straws to lump Matt Jones in with Pac Man Jones...

Agreed. The Giants don't have a single "great WR,"Â￾ but rather a bunch of guys who are all above average talents (which is more than can be said for most NFL WR corps). Smith, Nicks, and Boss should be their leading receivers over the next few seasons. Boss really needs to step up and have a great season. He hasn't done much since emerging during their 2007-2008 Superbowl run.

Thrashen, the reason Boss hasn't done much is because Manning has been targeting Smith and Hicks more. Boss has been blocking a lot more than in 2008. Statistically he had his best season last year with 42 receptions. He could easily catch 60 or more passes in a season though.

The campaign to make last year's banishment from the league a permanent one never relents. Remember -- war is peace, freedom is slavery, fast is slow, dumb is smart, obese is athletic

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Matt Jones hopes to return to practice on Thursday

According to the team's site, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Matt Jones hopes to return to practice on Thursday after missing the last few days due to a foot injury. Jones showed up to practice on Tuesday wearing a boot, but reports indicate he's just suffering from a bruised foot.

Now that Terrell Owens is a Bengal, Jones is one of five wide receivers competing for one or two spots on the team's rosterâ€"considering Owens, Chad Ochocinco, Antonio Bryant, Jordan Shipley, and Andre Caldwell all appear to be locks. Jones was signed to a one-year deal back in February just above the league minimum with the intention of providing the team with help as a deep threat and in the slot.

Unfortunately, the reports on Jones during the first week of training camp have not looked good. On July 31, Paul Dehner of CBSSports.com Rapid Reports said, "He looks like he's running in one of those super-slow motion cameras used to analyze golf swings."Â

Jonesâ€"a former first round pick in 2005â€"was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars following the 2008 season after violating a plea agreement from a previous drug charge. He's caught 166 passes for 2,153 yards and 15 touchdowns in 54 career games played.

The news keeps getting worse for Jones. There is something really strange about the obsessive reports about how Jones "looks slow". There is never a comment about his hands, good or bad, or any other aspect of Matt Jones. It's almost as if someone handed out talking points to all the media to continually repeat that Jones looks slow. They know that a line of cocaine does not justify a lifetime ban, so we just have to believe that at age 27, his legs are shot.

Is it ever reported that Hines Ward looks slow? And if so, does it put him in danger in any way? Who would you bet on in a foot race, Ward or Matt Jones?

With his long legs Jones never looks fast running, which is true of every very tall athlete. If I was Jones, or his agent, I'd have him run the 40 and videotape it and send the results to every team and to the media, in other words engage in a bit of a PR campaign. It might not do any good, but he's probably too introverted to do something like that anyway. Blacks love to toot their own horn; Whites are too often the opposite way to the point where it can hurt them at times.

I'll never forget Jones in his freshman year in college playing QB vs Auburn...rushing for 99 yards only 10 carries playing about 1/2 the game at QB/some at WR... the look of disbelief from dwf'sthat the affletic 5'-10" CB's could not catch the6'-6" white guy on a 32 yard TD!

I realize Carson Palmer is a much better passer than Vince Young...but I almost wish Jones had signed with the Titans instead(his other choice) ...they have nowhere near the depthat WR! I have to agree it seems like he's systematically being rooted out of the league...

The Redskins are pretty thin at receiver and could certainly use a player like Jones. The chances of him being signed by tribesman Dan Snyder are very small.

Hopefully the Titans or another team in need of an experienced WR with unlimited upside will take a chance on Jones if he doesn't stick with Cincy. Jones looking "slow" is overtly racist. Jones would NO DOUBT beat Johnson or Owens in a 40 yard dash even if for some reason he looked "slower" while smoking both of these over-hyped affletes...

From August 5, 2010 ESPN Bengals Camp Confidential by afro-columnist James Walker:

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Former first-round pick Matt Jones seems to be falling behind daily in an effort to earn a roster spot. Once a big athlete with freakish speed, Jones clearly has lost a couple of steps after taking a year away from football.

Jones also suffered a foot injury recently, which hasn't helped his case. Ochocinco, Owens, Bryant, Shipley and Andre Caldwell probably will take up five slots at the receiver position. That leaves only one or two more roster spots for Jones and several other receivers to compete for. Do not be surprised if Jones doesn't make the cut.'

The "Jones looks slow" mantra just won't quit.

If all these negative reports are coming out we have to expect Jones not to even make the final roster. This writer needs to get his facts straight as well. Jones didn't take a year away from football. He was forced to because no team would sign him.
