Liverpool v. Plymouth

What can only be called a caste match up is going on right now in the EPL. Liverpool is playing an all-white side. Plymouth plays 8 blacks and 3 whites. This is even worse than the French squad which played 7 blacks.

When you see something like Plymouth or the French national team you are seeing racism in action. The person picking players for the team simply thinks blacks are better athletes, so he stacks the team with them. Who cares how many superior white athletes he passes over. He has a racist ideology to fulfill.

Oh, and Liverpool is up 2-0.

You mean Portsmouth. Plymouth play in whatever they call the second division these days.

I haven't followed football (by which I mean soccer - my game) properly since about 2000. The hype and sheer number of foreigners in the English league has made it unviewable (not to mention the likes of Glazer, Abromovich, Dein as owners). I probably couldn't name one player for several teams in the league.

A point I often make to the muppets who still follow soccer - Arsenal have not had a white, British first-teamer since Ray Parlour left in 2004! I reckon the % of white, British players in the EPL may be about the same as white Americans in the NFL

Ticket prices start at around £30 ($60) upwards, so watching the game is not a cheap endevour.

To any US fans, Middlesbrough are worth watching if only because they try to bring young English players through to the first team. Liverpool have had a very good (and very white) youth team mostly made up of local lads in recent years, but players do not progress because of the imports.

Good catch. Yes, I did mean Portsmouth. Liverpool, Blackburn, Man City and Fulham have mostly white squads and I cheer for these teams.

Manchester United's top players are all white. I'm talking about Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs.
They do have some black players, but that is just the way Soccer is in the UK now. Clubs search the globe for good players and bargains! Manchester United have a Brazilian, a Korean, one Chinese, one Pole, one Serb, a Spaniard, two Portuguese, an Argentinian, two Irish, two French (black of course) a Welshman, a Scot, a Dutchman, and eight English players.

True. Arsenal is better than in recent years (roughly half white) and Chelsea is not a disaster. Nothing beats that all-white side of Liverpool though!

It seems to me that the BIG four (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool) have squads that reflect the demographics of the area (although it might be a bit over the top). Arsenal (North West London) has a large black population which is reflected in their squad where as Liverpool is one of the whitest cities in England with one of the whitest squads, actually, I've got a feeling that they are thee whitest team in the Premiership. Chelsea have got a core of English players but also have their fair share of Africans, where as Manchester United is still very white despite getting a bit more foreign. I don't like the way Hardgreaves and Carrick have to battle out for the defensive midfield position, Carrick should find another club for regular first team football.

As for Portmouth, well I don't really understand Harry Redknapp. Don't get me wrong, he has built up a great squad (yes they are very black) and are over achieving, but he dropped quality indigenous players like Sean Davis, Matthew Taylor and Gary O'Neil when they were all playing well?

As for my team Newcastle, Allardyce has done what he did at Bolton by buying Cheap past it foreign players (which worked at Bolton) and deployed a boring style of football. Cacapa, Beye, Geremi are all over paid and have been terrible this season. NOT GOOD! Steven Taylor is one of the best young English defenders and future captain of Newcastle, yet Allardyce keeps on ingoring him and why on earth did we sell Scott Parker I will never know???

Just for the record Ryan Giggs has a black father.

English football is completely deracinated at the highest levels. My relatives always say things like "what matters is the quality of the football, not nationalities". Well, if that is the case then why bother with an English premier league at all, or a Spanish or Italian league. You might as well just abolish them and move towards a European, and eventually, world super league if the quality of the football is the only thing that matters. that way ManU can play Barca, Milan, etc. every week instead of outgunned minnows like Wigan and Newcastle.Edited by: Matra1

Wow - I never knew that about Ryan Giggs. His Father can't be very black though. I mean look at the guy!

Giggs' racial origins are fairly well known. His paternal grandfather is a full blooded African from Sierra Leone.Like any "1/4 - caste" - to use the (now un PeeCee) British idiom - he is considered white in the UK. No one-drop rule here.

His father was mixed-race Rugby League stand-off Danny Wilson (can't find a picture on the web).

Ryan lucked out on the genes front

, this is his brother Rhodri. Enough family resemblance to rule out the possibility Danny Wilson was not his real father..

Question for you Stateside one-droppers - would someone looking like Giggs be allowed to play corner or running back in the NFL? I somehow doubt it. OTOH, I bet if he was a stud QB he'd be 'African'.

Here is another exciting white</span> athlete who certainly wouldn't be carrying the ball in the NFL, Wasps' fly half Danny Cipriani.

Carlos Tevez is about as 'white' as Deon Sanders.

Argentina is undergoing similar demographic changes to much of the USA (i.e. large scale Mestizo and Indian invasion), which is increasingly reflected in the make-up of their soccer team. Used to be the case that Maradona stood out in the Argentine line-up for more than just his talent...

Soccer is not a European game. Mestizo and Indian players can play in the UK if they are good enough.
There is no caste system (yet) in my opinion.
I think your comparison to Deion is a bit wide of the mark.
