Turley tries to return from back problems
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Former standout offensive tackle Kyle Turley, who hasn't been in a game since a 2003 playoff loss because of severe back problems, is attempting to revive his career at the Miami Dolphins' mini-camp this weekend.

As a tight end.

Turley to try out as TE

At the very least he could be the second TE in blocking formations...I think its a good move for him. For running plays in the double TE formation, I could just imagine how effective he could be. I really like him and his gladiator approach on the field. That game vs the Jets when he ripped the helmet of that one guy and threw it into the air was pretty cool.

He could be a Lafleur type tight end. The second or third tight end on the roster brought in for blocking downs. I couldn't believe he was ripped for protecting his qb...

Whites aren't allowed to be that demonstrative without being condemned. The same act done by a black would be seen by the media as excessive enthusiasm, but when done by Kyle Turley, he ended up having to take anger management classes and was nearly thrown off the team by Jim Haslet as well as being pilloried by the media for a long time afterward. The Caste System already didn't like Turley because he is aggressive and extroverted (and having blonde hair surely didn't help), so when an opportunity arose to go after him, that's just what happened.

Turley was one of Mike Ditka's first draft picks when Ditka took over the Saints organization. Iron Mike publicly stated at that time that he was going to draft character, that character means as much as athleticism. It didn't pan out in the case of Danny Wuerffel, another of Ditka's draftees and a definite high-character guy, but Kyle Turley fit at least some definition of high character player -- especially by comarison to the NFL norm. And he was a difference maker on the O-line.

I, for one, always loved Kyle's play AND his behavior. He was not the typical white eunuch. Kyle was more like a warring Berserker! Of course, I always liked Bill Romanowski, too. Romo wasn' perfect, but at least he didn' act like a "prison bitch" around the black bullies.

Berserker is a great wordto describeKyle.

The Saints have been a Caste System leader for a long time, especially on defense. The only respite was when Ditka took over and actually installed some white starters on defense. But Ditka, like even the best of NFL coaches, still was a Caste System conformist. He didn't promote WR Keith Poole to starter even when Poole led the league in yards per catch in '99. And trading all the team's draft picks for Ricky Williams was pretty strange. I kept hoping he'd draft Rob Konrad in the first or second round and let him carry the ball but that was way out of the question.
