Finished 11th all-time on Michigan's career receiving list, but is slated as the designated blocker for the Cards. Weird, huh?

Cardinals Profile

Jerame Tuman

Position: Tight end.
Age: 32.
Experience: 10th year.
College: Michigan.
Hometown: Liberal, Kan.

Background: A fifth-round pick by the Steelers in 1999, he played in 120 games for Pittsburgh over nine years, starting 56 of them. A three-year starter at Michigan, he finished his college career 11th on the school's career receiving list. In high school, he played football, basketball and track. He and his wife, Molly, have four children: one boy and three girls.

How he got here: Signed with the Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent.

2008 projected role: He likely is to be the team's third tight end and blocking specialist. That's Tuman's specialty, and it fills a need. The Cardinals have guys who can catch, but their blocking skills are suspect. Coach Ken Whisenhunt wanted to add a veteran at the position to help mentor some of the younger players.

Tuman was a nice receiving TE at Michigan, but Pittsburgh is one of the NFL's graveyards for tight ends and Tuman was little used as a pass catcher. Even Heath Miller is underutilized as he's capable of huge receiving numbers.

Tuman had a huge season as a big play receiver in Michigans Nat'l Championship year in 1997, it was easy to think he'd be a big time NFL receiving threat. Too bad about the Steelers and their no pass to the tight end offense.
