Quarterback Jared Goff was drafted number one overall in the 2016 draft. He has an excellent chance of becoming a franchise quarterback.

If he is successful he could become one of the league's most popular players, because he'll be playing in the Los Angeles market.

Jared Goff really came on strong the latter part of the season despite being banged up and having no one to throw to other than the rookie St. Brown (Hockenson went on IR and didn't have the big breakout season many thought he would). Goff was written off as a bust his rookie season despite being the first overall pick, and he was written off again when he went to the Lions. Looks like the Caste Clown hive mind "experts" were wrong yet again about a White player:

Lions GM Brad Holmes said Jared Goff "played really good" in the second half of the season. "The success he had late — he had rough patches to fight through — and I give him credit that he stayed the course. He played really good football." Goff rebounded from an uneven first half, winning three of his final five games while completing 69.6% of his passes with an 11:2 TD/INT ratio. That came despite playing through oblique and knee injuries with the one of the league's worst support casts. With the No. 2 overall pick and two picks in the first round, the Lions need to decide whether to build around Goff or draft his replacement this offseason. Goff's contract ($15.5M guaranteed) and late-year turnaround make him the favorite to return as Detroit's starter.

Build around Goff vs. draft his replacement. The answer to this is so obvious that you'd think even Detroit couldn't screw it up, but I've learned never to underestimate the stupidity of a Lions GM. Having the #2 overall pick, an extra first round pick, and a guy already on the roster who's good enough to be a franchise quarterback is a situation that few NFL teams luck into.

I really, really hope they do the right thing and in a few months we don't end up hearing "Detroit's first pick has mouthwatering upside and will revolutionize the QB position."
