Shane Williams of Wales has been voted the International Rugby Board player of 2008. During 2008 the 31-year-old Williams broke the Welsh try-scoring record and inspired Wales to the 2008 Grand Slam.Williams already won the RBS Six Nations Player of the Year gong as his six tries equaling Will Greenwood's Six Nations try-scoring record.

"It's quite mad to be honest," said Williams."It's the biggest honour you can get as an individual in rugby and it's totally overwhelming.

Williams is a winger - a position where speed and elusiveness is essential and is one of the most exciting players to watch. If you think you or your computer has gone a bit wrong when viewing the second clip, don't worry, it is not you - the commentary is in Welsh.

I like to here Welsh spoken. I was there once and it's a nice language to hear. It's nice that people are trying to keep their culture and not have the whole world be the same. I hope Wales doesn't turn into Little Indian or Africa. There is a lot of Eastern European immigration into the UK too.

I think I might start watching rugby on Setanta Broadband. We can watch many great white players and not have 80% of the players be black.

Rugby is overwhelmingly white. Pacific Islanders are probably the most common non-white demographic involved in the sport. It's quite revealing to look at pictures of both the French rugby and soccer teams.

I watched my first rugby match from almost start to finish today England vs Wales. HOLY HELL THOSE WHITE GUYS ARE TOUGH! They make the affletes of the NFL look like weenies. I can honestly say I didn't understand a dang thing that was going on, but it was still fun. To my untrained eye, it just looked like these big ripped tough as nails White guys beating the hell out of each other almost non stop. I was pretty great LOL! I was just surreal to see the contrast between than and the NFL affletes laying on ground and doing their usual injury faking all the time, and how they always stand around lazily with their hands on their hips for long spells after those little bitty bursts of activity in the NFL.
