I'll have to do some research, but Austin Kratz' 10.34 and 20.74, may be the fastest white HS times ever.

I think Matt Bruno beat his 200 time and I thought Godwin ran faster over 100 meters.

Now you got me curious! :)

    I think Bruno's best was 20.82.
Curtis Godin ran 10.36, but also 10.31 with 2.1 wind.
Shane Crawford ran 10.33 as a high schooler competing at the Jr. Nationals.
    Casey Combest...? Not sure.

Austin Kratz' times of 10.34 and 20.74, are the 2nd and 3rd fastest, wind legal HS times in the country.

Casey Combest never ran a 100 even close to that fast. He was an indoor specialist. His
National High School 60 Meters Record still stands today at 6.58!

the 100 isn’t run indoors. Kratz placed third in the 60, the indoor short sprint. his time in the deuce was the 8th-fastest ALL-TIME indoors by a high schooler. i know a lot of states don't run indoors, but that’s still flying!

    *******************

it’s been a weird spring of bad weather for track across most of the country, but there have already been some fast 4x100 relays run. the current #2 fastest time nationally is by a quartet from The Woodlands in TX, running the lap in 40.50 at Rice in the Victor Lopez Classic. why is this noteworthy? two members of the team are White athletes: Jake Lanier and Ethan Bonner. Lanier is also a nationally elite 200-meter guy.

    ***************************

Arkansas has had a VERY wet and cold spring, causing many meets to be cancelled. even so, there are two youngsters of note who are ones to keep an eye on due to both their youth and the fact they come from regions not known for sprinting.

Cole Joyce is a 9th-grader from Bentonville. he is the fastest 100-meter guy in Northwest Arkansas, regardless of grade level. the high school freshman has only run outside three times this spring but has a wind-legal 11.11 (#5 overall wind-legal time in the state) and a windy 10.89 (#2 overall time in the state). he’s just a freshman! as an aside, last year as an 8th-grader, he took the regional title in the 100, the 200, and ... get this ... the shot put! he’s thrown the shot over 48 feet this year, as well. he’s EXPLOSIVE. he plays football, as well.

on the girls side, sophomore Carly Strong from Sheridan won the Class 5A/6A/7A (big schools) State Championship indoors in the 60m. last year as a freshman, she finished 7th in the 100 and 5th in the 200 at the Arkansas Meet of Champs and is currently ranked #2 overall in the girls 100 with a wind-legal 12.19 and #3 in the deuce with a wind-legal 25.84.

I remember Combest. An article I read said he lived on a diet of mountain dew and cigarettes. It also said he was a troubled youth and never even lifted weights. He was a small guy at around 5'7 and 130 pounds or so. To be honest, I got the impression that he was/is a wigger. There is a more recent article about him and how he has turned his life around somewhat and is training his son to be a sprinter. He says in the article that his son has all his abilities and more. Combest had wicked explosive ability and it's a shame he wasted his talents with his troubled behavior. Not sure how old his son is but perhaps we will see him in highschool soon.

your impression was correct. his son is from a relationship he had with a black gal. he not only wasted his talent with bad choices, but he made more bad choices by not passing them on to his own folk.

Max Glasser 21.66(1st) 200m and 10.77(3rd) 100m at the Mt.Sac relays. His 21.66 would have placed him second in the Invitational section. He also has a 47.31 400m at the Stanford Invitational this year. Someone to keep an eye on.

Matthew Boling ran 46.15 at Regionals in Texas.
3rd the fastest 400m time in the country, and he's a junior.

watched some of the races from the Penn Relays, just gotta say the Jamaican high school boys 4x400m relay group must be juicing as they destroyed the best in the US...they look like men versus boys. When is the world gonna wakeup and call Jamaica on this bullcrap.

An oddity that needs further research. Nick Bolettieri from Heyworth HS in IL ran the fastest Outdoor 55M recently in 6.27 seconds which is way ahead of the next fastest so far this year. He is 6'3" and plays football but I cannot find any tangible recruiting information which is distressing given the fact he is in the class of 2019.

With that kind of speed it would have been nice to see him perform at these black heavy Nike HS football camps where blacks usually run the best 40 yard dash times.

Matthew came 2nd by .01! at the Texas State Championships, running 46.76 vs. 46.75 for the winner. So close.
But good news . . . he won the Long Jump with a jump of 24 ft even.
    Obviously a great athlete!

speaking of the flat 400 (my favorite race), on the girls’ side of things a high school junior from Utah ran the nation's top time this week.

Meghan Hunter ran a 52.59 (also setting the Utah state record), marking her second sub-53 of the season. she's the only girl to go under 53 twice this year, as well, if my information is correct.

she’s a very versatile, all around athlete, putting up impressive numbers across the sprint events, including a windy 11.96 in the 100, a 24.20 (-0.2) in the deuce, and a 43.49 in the 300 hurdles, as well as grinding out a 2:12.30 in the 800. and remember! she’s just a junior.

Here is a picture of Provo High's girl team. Meghan is the third from the left. Her sister Kate, pictured here next to her, is the state record holder for 800M and is joining the team at BYU.
