It's only Godin's 2nd yr running track.
And he only turned to track after failing (so to speak) at baseball.
How many other talented white sprinters are undiscovered - playing soccer, baseball, video games, etc.?!

i would submit that most all of them are.

WOW. What a Nick Symmonds-esque kick from junior Morrello to finish second by an inch in the 800m!

i agree completely. please read my thread "Just run, baby!" i detail the obvious in it, pointing out the absurdity that is the lack of White participation in US (especially high school) sprinting. that, in turn, causes a dearth of White sprinters at the higher levels.

on another note, is there a link so i can watch the CIF Championship Meet online?
Excellent article!

Hannah Labrie-Smith stutter steps multiple hurdles but still wins a silver medal in the girl's 300m hurdles. Would have loved to see a clean race, which may have been gold, but still a good run.

The year Godin has had is almost unheard of for anyone of any race that is so inexperienced. His technique still needs alot of work but damn can this kid fly. He clocks these times all day long. Amazing consistancy for anyone let alone a high school senior in only his 2nd year of running the sprints. Godin is a natural. Wariner was the same way even though it was over the longer sprints. The future is very bright for this kid. Now he just needs to go and finish off the double championship with another win in the deuce. I hope he is successful.

Godin completed the double winning the 200m in 20.87. Great performance!
And there were 4 whites (non-blacks at least) in the final.

I think Godin's form is pretty darn good. As good as some of the professionals we root for.

Speaking of Wariner, he also ran the 100m and 200m today - in Houston: 10.92 and 21.09.
So Godin would have smoked him.
I am happy about Godin, but sad about Wariner.

perhaps it went unnoticed by the majority of track fans here on CF due to the excitement of the California State Championships, but there was another elite meet that took place on Saturday.

the Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico invited some of the top high school talent from around the country to run. my favorite event is the 400-meters, and it was FAST!!!

on the girls side, an athlete from nearby Springdale ran the fastest 400 EVER by an Arkansas girl. rising senior Amanda Dillon ran a new personal best 55.20, and it was only good for fifth place. nine girls ran under 56-flat. wow! what a race!

on the boys side things were just as impressive, with the top six runners all dipping under 48 seconds which is smoking fast! 21 runners went under 50 seconds, which is really moving. senior Sebastian Feyersinger won the event in 47.01 (US #16). fellow Nevada high school sprinter (and decathlete) Corey Reid, who actually won the Nevada State Championship in the 400 when he nipped Feyersinger by 2 hundredths of a second, took fifth in 47.91. Reid actually had a pr in the State meet with a 47.15 (US #24). Zane Van Der Berg was the final runner under 48, finishing in sixth place with a still-sparkling 47.99.

Feyersinger is a name we've not talked about, but he is perhaps the top overall sprinter in Nevada. he has the state's #4 time in the 100 (10.80), was the state champion in the 200 (21.63, US #63, NV #2), and the state's fastest 400 (47.01, US #16, NV #1). he was fourth in the 100 and second in the 400 at the State Championship meet while winning the deuce.

a quick follow-up to my previous post:

Sebastian Feyersinger's 47.01 in the boys 400-meters is the fastest EVER by a Nevada high schooler. pretty impressive stuff.

No sign of Curtis Godin so far this season at UCLA.
He is perhaps the best white HS sprinter in 2 decades, but hasn't run at all at UCLA as far as I can tell.
Don't know if he's injured, dropped out, or what.
