I think I posted this earlier somewhere in this venerable thread, but have always like this song and video, which has no "diversity" for some reason. The 1980s were pretty awesome in retrospect.

Another 1980s video -- my God it's about romantic love and stuff! Belinda Carlisle was the ultimate California girl before that state turned non-White and communist.

Another pro-romance rock group was Heart, led by the Wilson sisters Ann and Nancy. They're from Seattle, pre-grunge and of course pre-Chaz. I recall reading somewhere that they lean conservative. Ann has a powerful voice but grew to land whale size, while Nancy the blonde was always a hottie (she had a cameo role in the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High). A great band for many years.

Here's an interesting video. It's a 360 video, you can scroll around to see all views.

The singers are very good too.

John Denver's Country Roads by The West Virginia University Bluegrass Band.

Bobby Fuller's death is one of those Hollywood mysteries that happens so often. He was found dead in his car 10 months after the release of his record I Fought the Law. The corner's report listed the cause of death either an accident or suicide.

Younger band I just recently got into. The lead singer passed away yesterday at 34. This song hearkens back to the thrash/heavy metal scene of the 80s.

Here's an interesting version of Hey Joe by Ian Luther. It's kind of weird. I can't find much information about Luther. Apparently he's not from the American South but from the UK.

I don't know if this has already been posted but check out Rockin' 1000 on Youtube. Some of these videos have excellent sound and video quality you can download. It is basically hundreds of mostly white musicians singing and playing rock songs.

It's hard to tell whether he committed suicide or was murdered. Since he attempted suicide by pill overdose earlier I'm leaning suicide.

That's weird. I was under the impression he was a flaming liberal. Looks like you're right...

He supported Democratic Senator Barack Obama in the 2008 Presidential election,[112] and in the primary.[113] He has since broken with the Democratic Party, partly because "it's a top-down structure" averse to reform from its grassroots.[114] In 2007, he made a donation to libertarian Republican Congressman Ron Paul.[115]

Here's Echoes, an interesting song by former Byrd Gene Clark. Clark was the Byrds main songwriter early in their career until he was marginalized by Jim McGuinn and all-around scumbag David Crosby. He left the band early on. Clark was the main songwriter of Eight Miles High, a song about a plane ride to London.

Road trips are as American as apple pie, albeit not as fun as they used to be as this country becomes less and less free.

Eddie Van Halen died today he was possibly the preeminent lead guitar in rock in the early to mid 80's when his band had hits like this one.

I lost touch with the band when the band voted David Lee Roth off of the island.

PS when I used to follow the band I had a dentist who resembled David Lee Roth and with Roth aging to about the dentists age then it's like Roth is his crazy coke using oddball Jewish brother....

This prison song was dated 1905. I don't know who/which came first, The prison work osng or Leadbelly's "Black Betty" song. Notice the emphasis on the beat. Everything's beat with blacks. As far as the concept of the blues, that of course came from Ireland and Europe. The blacks first heard those type songs about European ancestors of their owners or Appalachian Whites and then added their interpretations to it, such as the emphasis on beat. I don't blame them. They are just imitators at best.

I have read that" Black Betty" actually was a whip used to beat the prisoners with. I know it is a song people over the years have tried to figure out the meaning of this song. The NAACP tried to get it pulled claiming it was derogatory to black women.
I love the Ram Jam version. Their bass player went on to play with Billy Joel in another band.
