Joe Flacco was named the starter for the season opener. I'm assuming that when Troy Smith is healthy again, he'll reclaim the job. Hopefully Joe can do well enough to fight this Caste-typical replacement situation.

The Ravens also signed Joey Harrington (not mentioned in article) who probably won't last very long after Smith and Boller return. Assumedly, either Boller or Harrington will get the axe. Sorry to say it, but I think this is finally the excuse the Ravens were looking for to release Kyle Boller.Edited by: PhillyBirds

Boller was placed on injured reserve and is done for the year.

Todd Bouman will be the number 2 quarterback.

Bouman's a pretty good quarterback. I remember when he was on Minnesota during the Culpepper era and in a game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh he came in in the fourth quarter and threw for about 200 yards, much of it to Randy Moss. In fact I just checked the box score and Bouman was 11 of 15 for 200 yards and 2 TDs in one quarter; Culpepper in three quarters threw for 140 yards, 0 TDs and 1 pick. One game isn't enough to judge a QB on obviously, and the Vikings were never going to allow Culpepper any genuine competition. Bouman's always been pegged as nothing but a backup and has never had a real chance to prove otherwise.

Apparently Smith has lost 20 pounds and is expected to be out for a few more weeks according to Harbaugh. This will give Flacco some time to show what he can do. Then, if Smith does in fact start again and stink up the joint, there will be a nice frame of reference to compare the two quarterbacks. Not that that will ensure that Flacco gets the job for good.

Joe Flacco was the object of slurs from the unitedly anti-White Baltimore sports media, and for many weeks. They longed for Air McNair or any other Black replacement. Now suddenly Joe Flacco is pretty good, a competent White quarterback. The Ravens are winning. Begrudgingly the Baltimore Sun has toned down the rhetoric and tells us what an "adequate" job Mr. Flacco is doing.

This was the same bunch that told us how much Trent Dilfer sukked -- twenty minutes after he won the Super Bowl!
