Took him 4 years but he finally won a tournament. Geez at one time he was one of the top guys but he has faded into irreverence since then. I think it was Don that mentioned that these guys make so much money just by showing up that the urge to win fades away.

Els was (and maybe still is) one of the best pure golfers in the game. In some ways he's better then Mickelson. It's a shame he faded so badly. I was hoping as a non-American that the malaise that infects the white US athlete wouldn't effect him but I don't look for much from him anymore. He coulda been one of the great ones and a good adversary of Woods but he didn't have it in him.

Els did have a serious knee injury that knocked him out of the '05 season and affected him the two years after that too. He'd also gone through a Greg Norman-esque phase over the past year of losing tournaments to miracle shots by opponents and bad ones by himself. This win will be good for his confidence.
