I don't think you can fairly compare a slot guy with a starter, but you are free to think so if you wish.

I was kidding, there is no comparrison IMO...Bruce is 35 this year and bound to drop off in production soon, plus Drew will be in the slot.

Anyways back to who is the better WR....well i know who i think is better and you all think Drew is....perhaps you need to venture on to some other boards and state your opinion that Bruce is not very good and that Drew is better and see what reaction you get. If you listen to vets in the league and coaches...they all highly respect Bruce and recognize him as one of the greats, so we will see when it is all said and done...but i would bet my house that when both have retired, Drew Bennett will not be as highly looked upon as bruce.Edited by: GSOT

Well, thank God you're here to share your expansive knowledge of football with us idiots here on Caste Football, Gee Ess Oh Tee!

Next thing you know, I'll discover that Mike Vick really IS a good quarterback, Terrell Owens really isn't a cancer in the locker room, and Brian Urlacher really is overrated!

Yeah, everyone highly respects blacks because thats the required PC pro-black behavior. Those on OTHER boards are a bunch of Caste System media led sheeple. They can't think for themselves and spew the same lines as the Caste garden tools say on TV. If they could think for themselves, then their eyes would be opened to the Big Lie of black athletic supremacy, and see the discrimination that whites face in football.

I know....and i am 100% with you on that, and that is something that gets to me every single day, but still i will not lie and say something which i do not beleive. As i said i call it like i see it, and my eyes are clearly open. I stand up for white players on many boards and in every day life on a regular basis, but i will not put a black platyer down just because he is black and say a white player is better than he is...and i hope you respect me for that and can understand why i think Bruce is better than Bennett. I do not want you to see me as some sort of "traitor"

Also, i would like to clear any confusion, i am not saying Drew is crap...i just think Bruce is damn good. But back to Drew...he is an amzing player...and off course we all remember during the 2004 season when he tied an NFL record by scoring eight touchdowns in a three game span, and i hope that he will return to that form whilst with the Rams.Edited by: GSOT

I understand what you are saying GSOT. I too think it is a mistake to blindly support one side of anything. I know that there are some very good black NFL players. I just disagree with you about Drew. For what its worth, I don't see you as a traitor.

GSOT,
Don't lose your sense of humor, man. I think Bruce *WAS* a great receiver back in the day but he is past his prime. Given an equal opportunity, Bennett would toast him today.

Mike Martz and the Greatest Show on Earth played a huge part in making Bruce's reputation what it is. I believe that had Bennett taken Bruce's role in that offense, his numbers would have been just as good.

I wouldn't say that about every white wide receiver who has ever played the game, but I think Bennett is that good. You have to really watch white players and objectively observe what is going on around them, their quarterbacks, systems, and so forth, to see if they're really being utilized to their full potential. There are a number of white players who have absolutely shined when given the opportunity, but disappear a game or two later never to be heard from again. There is no explanation for something like that other than the caste system.

Thanks guys, i thought i was about to get banned lol....anyways i guess we difer in opinions on this one.
smiley36.gif
At least we all agree, that Drew is a damn good WR, and in a year or two he should get a real chance to shine....thats if he does not beat out bruce this year, which is a strong possibility seeing as linehan likes big WR's. I look for him to put up impressive stats with Marc as his QB. Also he is getting $4.5 million per year, so i doubt he will not be a starter for long.

Oh and guys just as a laugh...i asked a fan who he thought was/is better and i got a funny reply lol nice little song he has there

:

DREW'S CLUES: IKE LIKES STEAK & LOBSTER

So Drew Bennett never had the big stats,
Because all of his QBs were just lame hacks?
No Titan thrower to ever get him the ball......
Gee, I guess McNAIR  was never there at all.

On the hand Bennett is known to be quick,
And he's durable too.....hardly ever a nick.
Plus, Bennett has never had trouble with the law
Titan fans say, "Drew's the best we ever saw!"

But while mediocrity means "not being bad,"
And that rep, Bennett has certainly had.
But to put this journeyman onto Bruce's plane
Could only be proposed by someone insane.

Isaac Bruce is graceful, nimble and quick,
His TDs have left many DCs sick.
Defensive gameplans were made to stop Bruce,
But most of them proved of very little use.

What defenses I ask were planned to stop Drew????
I'll bet money that there wasn't even a few!!!
But I will give you this, "Drew Bennett's a gamer."
But do you really think Drew's a future Hall of Famer.!!!!!???????

So enough of this nonsense, enough of this farce.....
Bruce has set records while Drew's stats are sparse.
Isaac Bruce is a legend and a SuperBowl Winner.......
Drew: Show some class, & just buy Ike dinner!!!!

EDIT: Read this thread on reactions of the Rams fans....and also there is a post with many Titans fans opinions.

The most important point to consider here is not whether Bennett is "better" than the aging Isaac Bruce. What's really frustrating for those of us who want white guys to get a chance to succeed at these verboten positions is the fact that one of the very few who had a chance to do so (Bennett) made what looks to be an incomprehensible decision to sign on with a mediocre team as a #3 WR. That's just completely ridiculous, and makes no sense whatsoever, no matter how you look at it. Maybe if Bennett wanted to play for a Super Bowl contender, you might be able to defend his decision, but St. Louis is not a Super Bowl contender. I've heard Drew Bennett speak, and he is not an ignorant guy. He had Minnesota and San Francisco, at the very least, interested in signing him as a #1 WR- how could he possibly have decided to choose to be a #3 for the Rams? Again, I am getting those conspiratorial notions in my mind about him signing there on someone's orders.

Very good post...and i am torn, because 1 I am a Rams fan...and am happy to have him, but in the back of my mind i would have loved it if he went somewhere to be the number 1 or 2....But as i said he is getting $4.5 million per year...so maybe the number 2 spot is what he will get in St Louis...as that is a lot of cash to play just slot.

Compare Ashley Lelie to Drew Bennett. Lelie has been a real underachiever, but with Bennett inexplicably settling for the Rams and Kevin Curtis probably going to the Lions, watch for him and Donte Stallworth (the other top black free agent WR) to go to the Vikings and the 49ers. No one can tell me that Ashley Lelie has better business sense than Drew Bennett, but he will almost certainly come out ahead of him in the free agent sweepstakes.

I think Bennett should have signed with the 49ers, but this can still work out well for him. Bruce's production is clearly declining and he's at an age now where very few NFL receivers still play at a high level. He scored only 3 TDs in each of the past two seasons. Also, he missed a good portion of the '05 season because of injury (that's when Curtis was doing so well) and is regarded as somewhat fragile.

Marc Bulger is always one of the top quarterbacks in passing yards, so Bennett can easily thrive with the Rams. Especially so if Bruce is injured, cut, or demoted. If he plays asthe second receiver, with Holt almost always drawing double coverage, Bennett should excel.

"Bennett said he chose St. Louis because he wanted to be a part of something bigger than any individual statistics."

WTF does that mean...i mean i am a Rams fan...but to be honest we are nowhere near SB quality.

The Rams filled a potential void if wide receiver Kevin Curtis leaves by signing Drew Bennett to a six-year, $30 million contract that includes $10 million in guarantees.

Between bonuses and base salary, Bennett will pocket $9.5 million in 2007. He will earn $13 million in the first two years of the contract and $21 million over the first four seasons of the deal.

Why would anyone criticize a receiver going to a team known for passing AND willing to make this kind of money? I say congratulations and good job in free agency!!!
With the salary cap and free agency almost every team can contend for the playoffs.

I'm criticizing Bennett because this move makes zero sense. He was considered the top free agent WR. When has the top free agent WR EVER signed with a team that was not even going to START him? Bennett should have received the same kind of money from teams that would have made him their #1 WR (49ers, Vikings). Since the Rams are clearly not about to win a Super Bowl any time soon, what other reason would Bennett have to go from a #1 WR to a #3? You will never see any black player in a comparable free agent position do anything like this. Ashley Lelie, who is nowhere near Bennett in terms of free agent marketability, would never have accepted the #3 role on a team. And then Bennett makes the all too familiar white comment about wanting to be part of something bigger than "individual statistics." Right. Tell me when you hear any black athlete, at any age of level of competition, say something like that. That's the kind of attitude that is keeping the best white WRs from even starting for teams, let alone starring for them. Bennett should have talked and acted like what even the jock-sniffing press was acknowledging him as; the top free agent WR on the market. For all of us who root for the Caste System to be overturned, this is just one more missed opportunity.

If you were hoping for Bennett to do anything smart for himself you were kidding yourself. Bennett has made typically white decisions all his career. That's why he is one of the few whites to be a starter at his position. He knows his place. This is just another example. BTW if you read the comments of the new 49ers coach in the other thread about chararcter and "lilly white" teams then maybe Bennett did the right thing.

Bennetts not a fool, and he has little gumption. He doesn't want to fight the anti-white attitudes so he took an easy way out and is hoping it will work out.

White players are scared to death to move from one team to another. They have to be. If they are somehow lucky enough for the near impossible to happen and get a good spot with a team then they know it can disappear with the next black player signed off of the waiver wire, and it's that much worse going to a new team and having to challenge the unified brothers to take a spot from one of them.

Put yourself in a similar situation. Imagine you are a student in a nearly all black high school. It sucks. But you know where to go and when, you know the complicated dynamics of the black social structure, you have some allies with the faculty. Then imagine you get the option of going to another all-black high school. Would you be reluctant? Sure, it might be better, but it might be a whole lot worse.

He will make close to $10 million next year. Now if you could make that and be a team's #3 wideout at worst and play part time, why wouldn't you? He's getting paid to play some time. Less pressure, less wear and tear on his body, and now he's rich. Good deal. He's being paid for potential because for obvious reasons he hasn't consistently been productive.

Bennett and his agent looked at all options and they know better than anyone else what's best for Drew. This sacrifice your body BS so someone you don't know can cheer for you, is stupid. Make as much money as you can and get out. No one has any idea if the Rams will contend next year, but they have as much chance as anyone. If a talented white would have signed with the Saints last year he would have been ridiculed yet they were one game from the Super Bowl.

I thought taking the money and running, while doing as little as possible to "sacrifice" your body for the fans was what we criticized black athletes for all the time??? If what you're saying is true then maybe Bennett is NFL material!

The head coach of the Rams Scott Linehan used one of our favorite euphemisms in describing his newest weapon from the slot:

"We feel great about it," Linehan said. "He gets down field, and he has sneaky speed for a tall guy."

Why is everyone hating on Drew? Whites are more humble then blacks. Isn't that a good thing? Would you really want Drew acting like a T.O. or a Chad Johnson? IMO they probably told him he would start at the #2 WR and move Bruce to the slot. Looking at it from Drew's perspective he's getting a proven QB who puts up big numbers. Honestly who would you want at QB Mark Bulger, Alex Smith, or Taravis Jackson

? (What kind of name is Tavaris?

As predicted, Ashley Lelie is the primary beneficiary of Bennett's ridiculous decision to sign with the Rams. He signed with the 49ers, thereby becoming the odds-on favorite to be that team's new #1 WR, in spite of his mediocre performance last season, when he couldn't even start for Atlanta. Besides the stupidity of Bennett's decision, what about the reasoning behind the Rams paying such money for a WR they don't even intend to start? As was pointed out in an earlier thread, Linehan doesn't even employ 3 WR sets much (which is why Kevin Curtis often didn't hit the field last season), so why would he be so ecstatic about getting an incredibly high-priced "slot" receiver? In addition to white players perhaps being told to sign with certain teams, are certain teams now being told to throw way too much money at white players, just so they go where they won't play?

They wouldn't have signed him to a deal this big if he wasn't at least going to be 2nd receiver

Money just may have an edge on the caste system in this case.

We shall see..

I agree with White Mike's comment btw..who would you rather have throwing to you Bulger or Tavaris Jackson????????

I saw Bulger only one time last year(against the Vikings) and I thought it was Brady like..Bulger is a real talented QB who reads quicker than any QB I have ever seen.

I am not hating on Drew at all. I wish him all the best and a 1000 yard season for the Rams. I just think there are several other teams he would be a guaranteed starter for.
