I understand the poor guy broke his neck. I hope, for his sake, his spinal cord is not severed, as it would be horrible if he were paralyzed.

I remember when I was in 7th grade and Travis Roy, of the Boston University Terriers hockey team, broke his neck during a game. He is, unfortunately, paralyzed as some of you may know, but he is reported to be gaining upperbody movement again slowly. I saw that incident on T.V. while watching the game with my dad, and before Travis even hit the ice completely, I heard my father say, "Oh Christ, he broke his neck".

As a 12 year old, the incident traumatized me, and made me always skate with my head up and on a swivel at all times. When lifting at the gym, I'd actually set some time aside for training my neck during workouts. It was a horrible thing to see happen, as it actually gave me nightmares when I was younger. The fear of it actually happening still terrifies me to this day. Even in college hockey games, I was hesitant and shaky when heading into the corners, full speed, to challenge an opponent for the puck.

Bengals linebacker David Pollack will need surgery for the cracked bone in his neck, likely ending his football career.
So much for the 'white skin privilege' people preach about today.

David is still battling in an attempt to play in the NFL again, most likely not this season but possibly in '08. Ya gotta really respect his tenacity and love of the game.

Love of the game is what a lot of white football players have for their sport, another factor, along with their intelligence and willingness to sacrifice personal desiresfor the betterment of the team,in addition totheir all-around athleticism and admirable work ethics, that makeswhites such excellent players of the ultimate team sport, one they used to dominate, still do at the high school level, and would again if given the same opportunities to advance after high school as blacks are.

Here's the latest on Pollack. With white DEs rising to dominance (the few that are allowed to play that is), I can't help believing that Pollack would be a beast as a pass rushing end in the NFL instead of being used as a LB. Let's hope he can make it back. It's a huge longshot and would be an all-time great comeback if he accomplishes it.

According to draftdaddy.com, it looks like Pollack is retiring. That's what Marvin Lewis said at least.
