In 2007, Woodhead accumulated 7,441 yards on the ground, for his career, giving him a career average of 190.8 yards per game. He has rushed for more than 200 yards in 19 of his 39 appearances and scored in 37 consecutive games, both of which are NCAA all-division records.

After a 208 yard game against Western New Mexico in 2007, he became college football's all-time leading rusher, breaking the record previously held by R.J. Bowers, who played for Grove City College, a Division III school in Pennsylvania from 1997 - 2000.[1] Woodhead is also just the sixth NCAA Division II player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in four seasons.

Woodhead has also recorded 9,259 all purpose yards, which ranks second on the NCAA all-time list. Brian Westbrook (Villanova, 1997 - 2001) currently holds the record with 9,512 total yards of offense.

Woodhead is also tied with Germaine Race (Pittsburg State 2003 - 2006) for first place in Division II in career scoring with 654 points on 109 touchdowns. Race is also the all-time leader in two two-point conversions for 658 points. Woodhead is only the second player in collegiate history to score more than 100 touchdowns.

Barry Sanders is the only college player to accumulate more all-purpose yards than the 3,159 that Woodhead gained in 2006. Sanders managed 3,250 as a junior at Oklahoma State in 1988, when he won the Heisman Trophy. Woodhead ranked 10th in Division-II in career all-purpose yards with 7,349 after his junior season. The Division-II leader is Brian Shay of Emporia State with 9,301 yards, including 1,207 on kickoff returns, 1995 - 1998.

I know Nate Kmic broke his rushing record but was in D3. I still think Nate Kmic is a good back but Woodhead is better.

When he was actually given a real opportunity to play that is. It is obvious Woodhead is more athletic, Washington is a 4.5 guy, Woodhead is a 4.3 guy, Im pretty sure his other athletic abilities are better than Washington, does that automatically translate into a better back? no but given what Woodhead has accomplished in college and his athletic abilities I am pretty sure he would do better if given a real shot.Edited by: dwid

JC, the numbers I got from Woodhead were 4.33/4.38 at his Pro Day. The combine track is known to be slow- for 40 times- though, where Leon ran. However, Woodhead's 1.44 10 yard clip is just astoundingly and freakishly good. Washington's 1.62 10 yard clip with a 4.42-40 shows he accelerates slowly. In fact, I'm a little shocked that someone who runs a 4.42-40 would run such a slow 10 yard clip. Woodhead also ran a 4.03 short shuttle at his Junior Day I believe, but as we can see from what you pointed out Woodhead is superior in every category except 3-cone. I should also add, Woodhead also had the fastest 60 yard shuttle compared to "every single RB" at the 2008 combine.

If Woodhead adapts to reacting to the speed of the NFL and reading the Jets blocking schemes I think he would probably be better than Washington when you see how well he has done at each lower level when given a chance.

Woodhead's 2.9 YPC last pre-season game really equated to about 4 YPC when you consider the short yardage plays where he powered for 1st downs. I also think he got in the end-zone that play they marked him just short before Ainge ran it in. It was a solid performance in only his 2nd ever NFL game.

Coach Rex Ryan termed the injury "cartilage issues." While the rookie remains a goal-line/short-yardage option, it's going to be hard for him to find consistent carries early in the season. He's a late-round flier at this point.

Here's my Woodhead report:
I fear Woodhead is going to have to put on a dominant performance in his last game for the Jets against the Pats on Thursday. If he does I think the Jets keep 4 tailbacks and just one FB. "Whitey" always has to do much more to earn respect. Woodhead was solid last game considering the poor blocking and him powering for 1st downs in short yardage and I thought that one play should have been a TD.

The game today against the NY Giants- Woodhead had slightly better blocking. He played solid again and was averaging 3.8 YPC before they used him in the final series for 3 runs to run out the clock. His YPC ended up going down to 3.1, which doesn't look good for his statistical resume. That is 2.9 and 3.1 YPC his last two games which doesn't tell the whole story, but the message board DWFs and football "analysts", who barely watched the game, are going to be suggesting "melanin challenged boy" get cut.

Woodhead didn't look like he was finishing runs as strong as last game (he got knocked down too easily a couple times), but by my objective analysis Woodhead's on field play still had more the look of a 4 YPC back than a 3 YPC back. However, he'll have to "really" impress next game to not be taxi squaded again I fear, and be kept over a "sparkling star" hybrid HB/FB known as Jehu Caulcrick (sarcasm intended). If he doesn't his NFL career could actually be completely over.

The Jets will rest their entire starting backfield giving Jehuu Caulcrick and Danny Woodhead the majority of carries. The Jets are still trying to figure sort out their wide receiver package and David Clowney and Brad Smith will see lots of action fighting for the number three spot.

Sounds like Thursday is a big game for Danny.

I looked up the NJ Star Ledger Sports section online a few days ago. Coach Rex Ryan was asked about players on the bubble for the final roster and mentioned Danny Woodhead amongst a few others. When talking about the NY Jet RBs He stated something like this paraphrased:

"Danny has played solid with the second team offense the last 2 games. He made a few important first downs. We'll have to make our mind up on how many tailbacks we'll keep. Danny will get the majority of the reps in the second half on Thursday. He has a lot of big names in front of him right now he's competing against."

Even if Danny is made WSTD or the mascot, people got to see what he can do. They won't forget it immediately. However, he needs to have more exposure this season if he's really going to make a lot of people take notice. Its all about getting an opportunity at playing time during the regular season. Even then, if you are white, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. Just ask Brian Leonard. All we can do at this point is hope that the coaches won't let their Caste biases get in the way of letting Danny help the Jets be the best team that they can be. They've seen what he can do, now its on their back as to whether he gets to make a name for himself and carry some of the running load for the team.
