I saw the movie Creed this weekend. It wasn't too bad. Stallone does a good job as an aging Rocky and the guy who plays Apollo Creeds son is okay. Surprisingly the fight scenes up until the final climatic fight are pretty good, much more realistic then the Rocky type fights where each fighter takes round after round of undefended haymakers to the head and body. The final fight goes back to standard Rocky blood bath style.

While the move has lots of black characters race is not much of a factor. There are several white fighters in the movie, the champ and one of the challengers are white and they are good fighters and shown in a good light.

You could say that this Rocky movie is a not so subtle insinuation of the demographic changes in amerika. An aging former white champ, Rocky, devotes his attention to a minority kid in an illustration of how white people should prepare for their coming deposition.

However I don't get that vibe from this film. Rocky has a good business, Creed's son was raised by Apollo's widow (the kid is an illegitimate son) and is actually a rich black kid. Rocky reluctantly helps the kid in an attempt to make up for his guilt over the death of Apollo Creed, which Rocky feels partly responsible for. So the movie fits into the Rocky canon and best of all we are spared scenes of a shirtless Stallone and his steroid ravaged body. Now if he would only get a realistic hair piece that looks something like what a seventy year old dago would have for hair.
