Combine May Skip Academically Ineligible Players

The NFL is considering not inviting players who are academically ineligible to the Combine, according to CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman.

According to Feldman's source "the move is being discussed because of the increased scrutiny on the maturity and commitment of the prospects entering the NFL... adding that if this measure was in place in 2013, a sizable group of players would not have been invited to Indianapolis for the Combine." We are intrigued by the move and wonder if this rule might be common among other post season activities.

but then someone pointed this out which may be true "They (NFL) don't want to have psych evals of the socially challenged on record. If they don't go to the combine, then there isn't any record of any anti social tendencies."

There is no way it will ever happen. Grades be rayciss! Actually, I don't see the point of it. Their academic standing has no bearing on their status for the NFL.

well, if it was enforced, it would show maturity and responsibility if you passed your classes. I mean with all the help they get, its not hard to stay eligible just for a bit longer. I mean I think the standard is lowered to just earning 6 credit hours per semester to stay eligible thats half time. I mean I know there is a certain percentage of coursework they have to complete by their 3rd year ( which is when many of these kids are declaring), I think its 60 percent. It shouldn't be that hard to get 60 percent done in 3 years.

There must be some concern among the owners that the poor on and off the field behavior could start to cost them money. That's the only reason I can imagine that they would care. That's all they care about.

thats probably the case. The obvious solution would be to let the best players play, regardless of race, which would increase the amount of White players, and reduce the poor behavior on and off the field.

I suspect pro days would become bigger then. Now when a guy has a huge pro day result, it's discounted because a faster surface or generous timing. There is no way teams like the Raiduhs, Bungles and friends will let precious "talent" get lost in the shuffle.

This year their have been a record number of underclassmen that have declared. Not saying it is totally related but I am sure plenty of the players declaring weren't very strong academically. Rewarding underclassmen with combine invites and draft eligibility really hurts white players. Alot of these blacks will come out after one really strong season and get drafted based upon that rather than a full body of work at the college level. 99% of the time the college they come from just replace them with another black.

On the other hand white athletes have to stick around for four seasons to even get a chance to get a starting position when they are seniors. The NFL doesn't have the balls to put actual academic and character standards into the draft process. It would be interesting to see if they did however to see if it caused a surge in outstanding and overlooked white athletes getting a fair shot.
