Mike Singletary: The Whole Story

Mike Singletary lost his debut as 49ers head coach, getting waxed by a Seattle team that entered the game with only one victory.Yet Singletary's post-game rant and his decision to send Vernon Davis to the showers was cheered from coast to coast, resonating with a nation of football fans tired of all the thugs, punks and bonus-baby divas in the NFL.

The whole story is even more bizarre.

At halftime of that game, Singletary called for the attention of his players. He then dropped his pants, turned around and pointed to his backside. He used this occasion and that visual to describe what happened to his team in the first half.

A NFL source inside the room confirmed the story with my radio partner, XTRA 910 football guru Mike Jurecki, and added that Singletary then addressed the team for 3-4 minutes with his pants around his ankles.

The 49ers trailed 20-3 at halftime. They would lose the game, 34-13.

So, the question in San Francisco becomes this: Does Samurai Mike's legendary intensity rally a football team or does the Crazy Man Act alienate a football team?

After all, old school only goes so far in the new world, especially with today's breed of pampered players.

I think when Singletary was pointing to his ass it was to explain where his coaching philosophy comes from.

Worked for Bob Knight.

I'd trade 100 Rod Marinelli's and his idiot son-in-law for Mike Singletary, and hopefully the Lions would bring back Charles Rogers just so he could kick his ass.

Singletary was really trying to aggrandize himself with his actions in the locker room, toward Vernon Davis, and his statements after the game, but they were so cumulatively bizarre that they backfired, even on an affirmative action hire. As one ESPN pundit wondered (and you know it's bad when even ESPN has joined in the chorus of mockery), what will Singletary do for an encore if his team keeps losing? It only took him one game to cross the line from intensity to buffoonishness.

Singletary's behavior and decorum so far have been abysmal, even in today's NFL. I watched much of the Monday Night game with the Cardinals, and the announcers began by stating that Singletary was putting his stamp on the team and making Martz call more running plays. This was backed up by the fact the 49ers started out by running the ball several times in a row. The announcers clearly credited Singletary with this change in offensive strategy.

When the 49ers put on that incredibly inept performance at the end of the game, wasting so much time, calling a nonsensical final play at the goal line (with a backup RB carrying the ball), the blame for the debacle appeared to quickly shift towards Martz. Singletary's post game comments were totally classless, as he clearly inferred that Martz was at fault for the ridiculous final moments of the game.

Watching both ESPN and the NFL Network report on the final plays of this game the next day was very illuminating. All the announcers blamed Mike Matz totally. No one even mentioned Singletary's name! Needless to say, white head coaches-especially one who started out his career by addressing the team at halftime with his pants down-would be held accountable for such an embarrassing performance. The offensive coordinator's name wouldn't be uttered by the jock sniffers. In fact, I venture to say that a white coach might have already been fired, for the pants incident alone. The double standard couldn't be more obvious.

Btw, "old school" Mike Ditka has had nothing but praise for his former player Singletary. I think he'd approve if Singletary started firing random gunshots in the locker room at halftime. Ditka, like many of the lame jock sniffers in the media, was probably excited by the pants dropping incident and wishes he'd actually been there inside the locker room.

Ditka reminds me of Joe Paterno. The older he gets the less "old school" he becomes.

Hahaha, yeah, Ditka always plays the "tough guy role" on all of ESPN's little "shows." He's a wimp. Ditka is a typical caste rebulican, as almost every other member of NFL Sunday Countdown has mentioned serval times duing this election season (for whatever unprofessional reason). He's "old school" until it comes to issues of race or black buffoonery...then he shuts up like a little woman.

The funniest thing about him is, he actually believes that he's some old school grump. Whatever black ex NFL WR they site around him on that stupid show, he just laughs it up with the rest of the ladies.

Like nearly everyone else involved in this hilarious league, Ditka is clueless.Edited by: Thrashen

I just heard James Hasty and Mark Schlereth analyze what happened at the end of the Cardinals-49ers game. Once again, both of these Caste clowns lashed out at Martz exclusively for the mismanagement and disorganization on the field.

The only mention of head coach Singletary at all was when Hasty predictably praised his fellow black for his "candor" in throwing the blame on Martz in such a classless way in his post game comments. Of course, we all expect that from Hasty or any other ridiculous black talking head. They are, after all, for racial solidarity first and foremost.

Schlereth, however, has really turned into a disappointment. Initially, when I first saw him on various ESPN shows, I thought he was a bit more reasonable in his comments than most of the other white ex-players. He has gradually evolved into a Mike Golic clone who is unequivocally devoted to the Caste System.

Schlereth's "devotion" is called money. After all, when you work for the sissy, liberal caste-boys at ESPN, you have to have some "motovation." Schlereth's comments are just as lame and generic and caste-ridden as, say, Trey Wingo or Rich Eisen. For god's sake, he appears on shows like "Mike and Mike in the Morning" and "ESPN's NFL Live".....what more proof could there be of him being a caste rat?

Seems Singletary will coach out the season and then they'll get rid of him. After his behavior, I wonder if he'll find it hard to latch on to another team? I know I wouldn't want a guy like him on my staff if I was a head coach.

I'm glad the 49ers kept Singletary on as he will continue to provide much needed unintentional humor for us. While meeting with season ticket holders the other day he was asked what kind of mentality he's trying to build with the team. Mike's answer: "Physical with an F."

This being a country filled with DWFs and Singletary being black, his simpleton remark of course "wowed" the crowd according to one report: http://www.faniq.com/article/Mike-Singletary-wows-crowd-in-S an-Mateo-1226137

Another writer saidSingletary "stole the show" as the crowd "roared" in response to his gaffe: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/02/17/ SP2R15V09L.DTL
