Scottish Team Photo
Now the Scottish Football Association wants to allow Asylum Seekers to play for the National Team. It's refreshing to see an all white team as you see in the photo in the link. Unfortunately, if this is allowed by the officials, this is another blow for white athletes. Even Italy, Germany and Spain have black players.

Nationalism in Scotland is a lot more developed than in England, but unfortunately, it often takes an anti-English form that embraces the rest of the World as long as the rest of the World is playing against England. I remember in the World Cup Scottish fans rooting for Trinadad and Tobago when they played against England.

While the fans might tolerate this to some degree - if the player (or two) involved can make a big difference - I can't see Scottish fans getting behind half-black teams like English fans have had to in the past. The Scots are a lot more clannish.

Also I think the Scottish game is a bit harder for Blacks than the English game. It's a bit faster and more physical, even though the Scots originally invented the passing game.

Scottish players don't have that awe for the "fancy foreigner" that you sometimes see in England, so they don't get that little bubble of awe that most of them need to perform. Plus the weather doesn't help.

According to conventional sporting wisdom, having black players in your team boosts your playing level. National football teams though from Japan, North & South Korea, China, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam NEVER have any black players in them. This sort of wisdom is only seen in White majority countries.

What I stated above also applies in Basketball, Volleyball, and almost any other team sports. Many national Basketball and Volleyball teams in Europe, North & South America, and Oceania always have black players (for higher playing level), Asian national teams NEVER have any black players at all.

I don't understand the UK. The country is the United Kingdom, but they have national teams form NI, Scotland, Wales, and England.Ireland breaks away in the 1920's but they are still allowed to play in the English leagues. The Irish want it both ways. I would tell the Irish if you want your own country then play in your own leagues. It's too bad you can't make as much in the Irish league. The you have all the Scottish players playing in England. But they are actually part of the same country as England so I don't have a problem with that. It's also misleading when you count the English players in the BPL because the Scots, Welch and NI's aren't counted but they are part of the same country.I counted last year and if you included all the players from Great Britain and Ireland that counted for about 65% of the players listed on Wiki.
You could divide Spain up into Catalonia, Basque, Castilian and another region ,then there would be fewer "Spanish" players in Spain.
The UK is hurting themselves by breaking the national teams up. You could have had Giggs and mark Hughes playing for a UK team. What about the top Scottish players in the 70's and 80's that could have been combined with English players. Players like Dalglish,,Souness and others could have made a UK team better. Of course, it gives more people the opportunity to play for a national team.
Will Scotland or Wales ever break away? But what difference does it make with all the immigration. Even European Union immigration will dilute it.Look at Ireland. They have there own country, but it's now much less Irish.
