By the way, only a fool would believe Notre Dame's (or any school's) are too high for the affletes. Several years back a friend of mine briefly introduced me to a white "goy" that was once a starting lineman/team captain at Yale. Only shook his hand and said hello. I guess he played in 1980's? ... Anyhow, I asked if the ex-Yale Bulldog was a brilliant student in high school, because he didn't seem like a scholarly type at the time I met him ... I was told he scored like an 800 on his SAT's and was never brilliant....so if Yale was letting him in the 1980's, can you imagine how low the standards were at Notre Dame during the 2000's? Yet Hornung still bitched and moaned publicly?
Correct.
Again, going back to my son's recruiting days. I can tell you none of the schools "academic standards" are too high for blacks or whites. It is a little different for the Ivy League schools.
We were everywhere from Wake Forest, Duke, Clemson, UNC, all the way to Ivy League Schools. We visited Columbia and were told the athletes standards were lower on the ACT test. My son put up a good ACT score, but it wasn't the standard that most "White" or "Asian" students have to put up.
If I had to decide, no one would get in these division 1 schools unless you make the standard GPA/Test Scores that every other non-athletic student has to make!
Example: my daughter had a 4.8 GPA+ in high school and never made a "B" in any subject while taking AP classes. She's at Wake Forest. I would say less than 20% of the football team had a 3.0 or higher in high school. In fact when we visited one division 1 school the head coach said to the recruits that the GPA requirements had changed from a 2.0 to a 2.2! Really?
Try getting into a division 1 school with a 2.2 GPA as just a student!

I think CM will eventually get the carries we all hope he will as he is an elite rb. Personally I like that he gets the passes his way as it must cause the negro db's to shyte their pants at the prospect of catching this speedster in the open field as they know once he has a step on them they wont catch him as he is too fast. What I dont like is Scam the prima dona wanting all the glory for himself and I truly believe he deliberately does not go to CM when he is open out of the backfield(which is almost every play) because it will diminish his star power. As well the taking CM out of the plays near the goal line in favour of a negro back takes away CM's chances at a td. Lets face it Scam will protect the brothers on the team before going to an elite white rb. Newton calls the shots, not the coaches.

Some here want him to carry the rock 20 plus times a game but CM actually is a throwback to what they call the APB (All Purpose Back). Before our time many of the league stars fit that description like Paul Hornung.... was the face of the NFL back then.

A little bit off-topic from Week 2, but a few weeks ago I saw Hornung's career stats and was stunned! Stunned that he basically put up Danny Woodhead type numbers for his career (except with more TD's, but much fewer catches) and made the Hall of Fame and is considered a NFL legend. Perhaps Sports Historian or others can help out, as Hornung played well before my time.

Although I admit to not liking Hornung much, after he publicly blasted Notre Dame last decade for not having enough blacks. Basically, this fool was going around bashing his Alma-mater, saying the schools "academic standards" were too high, meaning fewer black starters. It was repugnant to me, but ESPN and others turned him into a folk-hero.

This is a bit off topic so naturally I will pile on--fortunately week 2 is in the books ( tonight's game is a caste fest). I don't know how to cross section replies into new threads so I apologize for talking history here.

Before my time but I am someone who is very interested in sports during the 1950's and 1960's. My avatar is a dead give away. That was a time before the "black plague" if you will, started it's long but consistent charge through history.

Truth is right at first glance Hornung's stats don't stand out. In addition to that Hornung won the Heisman trophy at ND in 1956 despite his team going 2-8. Unheard of to say the least.

Hornung was the virtual Swiss army knife who could do everything. He could run, block, catch passes, kick ( for four years he was also the field goal kicker) and pass the ball. He was what they call a money player--pun intended. And this Golden Boy was looked up to in the locker room not just because he was a clutch all around player but he had what the ladies wanted. See Joe Namath.

Back then certain white men were considered studs. These days they are generally considered second tier to black "studs."

Hornung ushered in the Packers reign but it took a few years. He was considered clutch and his yards per carry were impressive for that time. I was reading he was in the army reserves for a few years and his practice time was limited.

Hornung won the MVP in 1961 the year the Packers dynasty was just getting underway. He missed the entire 1963 season because of gambling.

Different era and mind set pre caste. In 1952 Lindy Remigino won the 100 M dash at the Olympics. In 1956 it was Bobby Morrow. In 1960 German Armin Hary. And in 1972 Valery Borzov. Hard to believe or digest in this day and age.

As for the 'controversy" over Hornung's statements about the need for black players now that it was mentioned it is all coming back to me. He would later back track but in 2004 that was the mind set and frankly 14 years on it appears to be in place.

As for ND I believe they lowered their standards when Holtz was there and I suspect there is a lot of fancy foot stuff going around in regards to that in most big college football/basketball programs.

While in general there is a distinct problem with black QBs jelling with white skill players and there is ample evidence I do not see it here even though a few other members share your sentiment.

Granted most NFL teams suffer from the "black locker room syndrome" and Carolina I am sure fits that to a point. But this is also a team that has Luke Kuechly generally regarded as the team leader.

As for Newton I don't see the evidence he is "avoiding" white skill players. Greg Olsen, from 2012-2016 with Cam at QB has put up huge numbers including three 1000 yard seasons in a row.

As for CM he caught a whopping 80 passes last year as a rookie and is on track for an even better season this year.

While "black avoidance" seems to be a big problem I just don't think in this case that is true. Newton can rub a lot of people the wrong way but I just don't buy the idea he is working against CM. In fact when Newton suffered a cheap head shot yesterday CM rushed over and almost got into a brawl.

Ironically it might help CM that he plays with a black QB which "helps" the other black teammates fall in line so to speak.

While watching the game yesterday, I heard the announcer say that Norv Turner wanted CM to get the ball more on the read option play, however Cam was reluctant to let CM have it last week. This was mentioned right after CM noticeably clamped down hard on a hand off that looked as though Cam didn't want to give it him. Those are the words from the announcers. If you watch closely, especially last season, Cam constantly threw the ball high or behind CM making it difficult for CM to make the catch as it would break momentum. Last year, Cam could not simply make a toss sweep pitch to CM. I am not the only one who noticed this. A few of my friends who watch a lot more football than me see the same thing. I mentioned this yesterday during the game. Again, yesterday at the beginning of the game, Cam constantly missed an open CM, throwing into double coverage. It wasn't until his receivers kept dropping passes that he had to go to McCaffrey. Although Cam seem reluctant to me to go to CM, I can't blame him entirely for yesterday's game. He was on the money most of the time, however his receivers dropped a lot of passes.

LOL that is funny stuff! I wonder what team is going to be stupid enough to go after Vonta Davis next.

Any ideas on if the Bills are going to actually get Josh Allen any help this year? Free agent TEs? Get DiMarco involved in the passing game? Sign a vet QB and let Allen learn a little instead of being thrown into the fire.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised at any of the moves this current regime makes !!! I was really encouraged by the last 2 drafts, the purging of Idler Arm Taylor, Marcell Dareus, Sammy Watkins, and Ronald Darby, but they have really reversed course in the last couple of months. These guys are Caste Clowns of the highest order, as 97% of "Football Men" are, and have been for many years. Since the beginning of the season, they have brought in a total of 15 players for tryouts and only 3 were white !!!! There are ZERO white players on the 10-man Practice Squad.

As for helping Josh Allen, I'm still baffled by the trading away of A.J. McCarron and am very worried about him remaining healthy behind the horrendous 4/5ths Sumo o-line. Landry Jones or even Derek Anderson (with his "Carolina Connection" that these 2 are so fond of) would be nice, but I won't hold my breath. In addition to the farce of an o-line, the WRs and TEs are terrible, yet they cut Reilly, O'Leary, and Proehl. It's not looking too good for young Josh, I just hope that in the end it doesn't scuttle his career.

My issue with McCaffrey not getting carries is, a lot of people would love for him to be a WR out of the backfield or motioned to slot... And hence why I am worried they will phase away his carries in favor of him being a glorified Welker. Plus a staple for RB is 100 yards rushing, he isn't getting that on less than 10 carries unless he breaks a run of 70+ in each and every game.

Excellent post backrow and my thoughts exactly. A slot receiver doesn't break the stereotypes that screw over white running backs for decades now. They especially do not want to see a superstar white running back. Another reason they couldn't let him or Toby Gerhart win the Heisman. Especially with McCaffrey as he broke Barry Sanders Single Season NCAA Rushing Record! That pissed off a lot of people who want to continue to make the masses believe that whites cannot exel at certain positions.

Rookie Dissly getting involved again early in Seattle passing game. He's up to 4 catches for 112 yards and a TD in this young season.

Not bad for a former DE!

Dung Beetle under-throws Dissly - no mention of that made by Witten or the other announcer.

Anyone else finding Jason Witten to be annoying? The announcing script for this game seems to be a tired old one -- criticize and nitpick a young White quarterback to prepare the way for him to be declared a bust. And of course in most cases that's proven to be a false narrative. I think Trubisky has been fine so far this year, a few missed short passes, hardly anything fatal, but it's obvious the DWFs are getting ready to boo him, with the media being the cheerleaders setting the stage for it if the Bears turn out not to be a contender this season.

I turned on the game shortly before the end of the first half. All I've seen and heard is how bad Trubisky is and how good Wilson is. Definitely a theme as other posters have noted.

Not a big fan of The Witten/Tessitore combo either Don.

iMO Trubisky has played well enough for his team to have the lead and control of the game. Thrown 2 ints but has also thrown a TD. Shown good pocket pressence and elusiveness on a 17yd scamper.

I listened to that Bears drive online and Trubisky seemed fine. He's doing ok and deserves a break and his offense is dominating at this point. Screw the naysayers aka DWFs.

Lots of pics of black players from when they were babies to up to 10 years old being shown so viewers can ooh and aah over how cute they were, haven't seen one of Trubisky or any White player yet. . .

He definitely has that super-excitable, over-caffeinated style the networks favor these days

It's the long-awaited demise of the Blackhawks, started last year and continues this year. Russell terrier with a sack-fumble, the wheels are coming off this odious team.
